Can we just stop building single lanes in this country? It's not safe driving on such roads. Even if you care about your own safety, you are not sure of the upcoming vehicles.
If he finishes all the supposed works in the state, which one will the next and other administrations do? Work no dey finish, maybe the next administration will expand it to double lane if the need be, because that road appears like a very lonely road that doesn't have frequent plying of vehicles, maybe for now.

17.5KM EGBEDA-OMERELU ROAD COMPLETED, SET FOR COMMISSIONING!

The 17.5km Egbeda-Omerelu Road, a vital link in Rivers State's transport network, has been fully reconstructed and is now set for commissioning. This road, approved by Governor Siminalayi Fubara on May 21, 2024, during the commissioning of Egbeda Internal Roads, is another testament to his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal.

For travelers from Omoku axis heading to Owerri, this project offers a much-needed alternative route, eliminating the need to pass through Elele. The improved connectivity is expected to enhance trade, ease movement, and boost economic activities within the region.

Governor Fubara’s administration continues to deliver on its promise of meaningful development, ensuring that critical roads across the state are not only rehabilitated but also strategically designed to improve accessibility and convenience for Rivers people.

True
Unlike most Governors who will hire musicians, dancers, pay traditional leaders to attend a commissioning.

I once watched on TV how a governor was commissioning a 7 bed hospital in quote but the fanfare was more than the commisioning.

Am so sure the money paid to hire dancers and musicians could build a ward in that hospital.

😂 😂 😂 I was wondering what could be the foundation of that location being named Egbeda. Does it have any correlation with the Oyo State Egbeda, the Ondo State Egbeda and the Lagos State Egbeda......do they mean the same thing when you look at it literally....I know that the South West Egbeda means Community collaboration, engagement. Generally means togetherness in Yoruba.....anyone from Rivers State Egbeda should enlighten us on the meaning of that your Egbeda and how it came into being.....

This is the kind of statement that makes politicians receive accolades from full grown men and women after enticing them with promises of good roads like this one lane road.
I don't know which state you come from but my statement is subjective. You can only asked for more when you have something but when u don't have at all, you can't ask for more.

How you go buying a whole 17km of single lane road? What kind of play is that? They should have made it two lane.

Anyways, at all at all na em bad pass. Still better than entire ZERO road the Agulu fraud built during his 8 year tenure as Anambra governor.
There factors to consider before such...that is a rural road with little vehicular traffic..
It is a waste building 4 lanes

Too expensive and Not enough traffic to warrant dual carriage roads on both lanes.

Atleast for the few people who use the road once a year during Christmas when they visit their village they’ll be happy that they have a road even if it is one lane

There is absolutely nothing wrong with constructing single carriageways, particularly in areas where traffic volume is consistently low. Based on the images shared, few vehicles can be seen along an extended stretch of the road; a clear indication that the area does not currently warrant a dual carriageway.

Allocating resources to build a dual carriageway in such a location would not only be inefficient but could also be seen as a poor use of limited public funds. Infrastructure projects must be tailored to actual need, and the volume of vehicular movement is just one of several key considerations in road design.

Other important factors include environmental impact, projected population growth, economic activity in the area, safety assessments, and long-term maintenance costs etc. A balanced and sensible approach to road construction ensures that resources are directed where they are most needed, delivering maximum value for the public good. There are also single lane roads even in advanced countries.

Agreed but this is not a major road this is located in a place where less than 10% of inhabitants own a car or bus of any kind. Most people use bicycles or Okada.

The road connects Egbeda in Rivers state a community of less than 200,000 people to Omerelu also in Rivers state another community with less than 200,000 people

So in reality a 4 lane dual carriage road between 2 communities in the middle of nowhere will be a waste of resources when there are more pressing issues that money can be used for example providing lights for the road, security for the communities, incentivizing farmers in the communities, healthcare etc.

The road does not even connect direct to port harcourt the capital city where you will say some people will use the road once or twice a year. During Christmas and maybe new year

How many Omerelu people visit Egbeda daily? And vice versa? Almost none.

So this road is sufficient for these type of communities it is better than having no road at all, atleast now people with bikes, motorcycles which are the more prevalent means of transportation in these communities can travel with ease and even the few who own cars and those who have or use buses can ply those roads as well.

But believe me there is no hold up or traffic or go slow within thise communities to warrant dual carriage lanes with 3 or 4 lanes.

Single carriage ways exist all over the world even in developed nations like united states. You will even see very long stretch of single carriage way running through thick forests and arid regions connecting two cities.
Single carriage is not bad. You can talk about the width but not cancelling single carriage entirely.

In cities and areas with high or moderate traffic that is understandable

But this road is connecting 2 villages where most people use bicycles and motor cycles and it has little traffic.

How many times do people visit their neighbouring villages where you are from and do they visit in convoys of Mercedes Benz’ and coaster buses?

If this road was connecting to a major city like port harcourt or even a place with a population of 500,000 or even 300,000 people and above I will understand your comment.

But this road is connecting 2 villages with population less than 200,000 and none of these communities have anything attracting visitors, not a stadium, not an international hospital, airport, big multinational company NOTHING.

So you want government to sink money into an 8 lane super highway connecting 2 viallages with a population of 100,000 people each which no one will ever use, even in the picture did you see any car on the road? Did you even see a bicycle or motorcycle on the road?

Go to Google maps now and see if you’ll see any cars on the road in google satelitę images that’s to tell you the low traffic on such roads.

I am not saying roads shouldn’t exist of course they should I believe all communities should have this type of roads leading to closest community to them then as traffic grows the road can be expanded.

Nigerians are narrow minded and don’t understand for themselves that’s the issue here, when you understand why and how then you will know when to ask for what and why. But you guys are good in cramming and passing exam without really understanding that’s why you always ask for things without knowing why or if you even need it.

It’s the reason you ask for president from you Tribe and state as if that will help your state or its people in any way
You ask for super highways and trains from a desert no one lives in to another desert no one visits and then wonder why no one uses your “world class road” And it can’t be maintained.
No one uses a road simply because it is a road or it is smooth, they use the road because they want to visit something or someone or do something somewhere that road leads to.

Roads to Lagos city in Lagos state are more traveled than roads leading to Baro city in Niger state WHY?

Because people want something in Lagos they aren’t visiting Lagos just because the roads leading to Lagos are good. Even if the roads leading to Lagos was bad they’d still use the road and even if the road leading to baro was the best road in all of Africa they still wouldn’t visit baro.

Fun fact: did you know that during the colonial era Baro had a MAJOR inland port it is close to the river Niger and it was used in transporting groundnut and cotton.
It has a railway, it has colonial buildings, it is a good case for this road because it shows that you cannot force people to visit a place simply by building Railway, good roads, good ports etc.
Past administrations but states and federal have tried to revive this city to no avail.
If all that money wasted on those projects: River port, inland port, railway etc that no one uses today was put into places people actually want to live Nigeria would be better off to a small degree today.

No one will visit your village only 4 elderly people live in your village and 2 can no longer walk the other 2 are blind but regardless of that you want your village to have 3 sea ports, 4 airports, 6 hydroelectric dams, 200 fuel stations, 10 lane roads 🤣 only because it is your village.

Why not put these facilities in places people actually reside and visit. The border towns the first places people see when they fly into, drive into, walk into, when they film Nigeria or their experiences in Nigeria.

Build a football club people LOVE then build that club a stadium then build hotels for fans to stay in when they come to see the games live.
as fans number increases with time you also increase the stadium’s capacity. That’s how it should be but
Nigerians will instead build hotels first 🤣 then build a stadium second and then wonder why no one is staying in the hotels or visiting the stadiums and using them when there is nothing to see in the stadium 😆
And then they use the stadium once a year for one religious event and use it once in 4 years for political rally and say it was money well spent 🤡

No!

A state road linking major places and built by a state governor should be made a double lane. According to the post, the road serves as a viable alternative for people traveling to Owerri (Imo State), which makes it a major road that leads out of town.

Not all places will have dual lanes expecially places with low traffic. Go to the UK countryside and see if you have any dual carriageways. It will be fool hardy financial wise to waste such resources expecily in places like ND where due to terrain it cost an arm and foot to build roads. Naija is not Qatar neither is it dubai with endless oil cash.
