HenryWilliams:
This is the reason why they want to ban the importation.
More and more residences and business are going fully or partially solar, removing themselves from the Grid. Ordinarily this should be good news to The DISCOs as demand is low..however due to their gross inefficiency, estimated billing is their bread and butter , so with more people off the grid, lesser revenue is being made.
By the time 30% of their customers are on Solar, demand for power is low, and their revenue plummet that's why they're rushing to FG to save them from Solar
They once tried to introduce a form of informal tax on residences with Solar installation, going from house to house searching for Solar panel installation and serving them loss of revenue notice..the reaction they got from people put paid to that
So this is how they intend to keep us in darkness..
Ban the importation and stifle the market.
They know local production can never match demand in a million years..and definitely inferior products at inflated costs..another rice dilemma.
What do Nigerians plan to do about this ?

Nigeria was not made to work. Same thing they did to rice and other things. These current crop of politicians have truncated the Nigerian growth capacity. The day Nigerians will come together to reason una matter eh!
Re: Nigeria To Halt Importation Of Solar Panels by onatisi(m): 12:53pm On Mar 26, 2025
you are right, but it seems the way forward for the power sector is to make alternative power readily available to people. if our government can embrace solar energy and renewable energy, it will work well and it will, in the short term at least, reduce the nation's power shortage. But trust Nigerian government, they will still eventually find ways of inflicting pain on people if they see that people are dumping PHCN

erico2k2:
The powers that may B are just worried people are migrating from PHCN wink
However I trust the Chinese, they will do what they did in the manufacture of floor and wall tiles.

FashoFashola to Nigerians: 'If You Want to Have Stable Electricity Supply, Vote PDP Out in 2015'

Jul 11, 2014.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, while marking his 2,600 days in office at an elaborate ceremony held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television premises, has said voting out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in next year’s general election is the only way the country can have stable electricity.

According to The Nation, Fashola said electricity crisis in the country is caused by lack of ideas and insincerity of purpose on the part of Federal Government.

"Yes I agree with you that it is possible to generate electricity and to make sure that everybody in this country has electricity, we have to do the right thing. But you know what, the only way that you and I will have electricity in this country will be to vote out the PDP.

yeah, but will they? The people who bought the GENCOs and they DISCOs are the ones crying, I spent almost N13m to go solar on our Biz premises in Nigeria, I aint bought Diesel in 18 months imagine.
Re: Nigeria To Halt Importation Of Solar Panels by deboakins(m): 1:00pm On Mar 26, 2025
Yes I concured, but those companies manufacturing the solar panel should come to Nigeria and start producing it locally here, base on that we would be able to provide jobs and grow our economy.

Re: Nigeria To Halt Importation Of Solar Panels by BlackyOne:
This is another dumb shit and ill advised move!

Why is an agency of government taking responsibility to manufacture PV panels.

They should be looking at meetings with local and foreign investors to set up the factory and manage the manufacturing within the country.

You dont have a clue do you? Solar power is getting cheaper by the day and PHCN is losing out, the powers that may be are losing money cos as small as N500k you can have 24hrs power depending on what you need it for.My parents now have 24hrs power by me spending just N1m,Lighs, fan,TV,No more darkness.
I have a clue is you that don't understand what the government is trying to do. Rather than importing, let's start training people to create this clean energy. Then it will be very affordable and cheaper, you might end up not paying that much of 1M. So rest okay.

Those suckers just love playing to the gallery. Check am now,you see say there is nothing concrete on ground to achieve anything tangible immediately, yet he's talking like they fit produce the batteries and panel in one week. Nonsense

Nigerian solar panels on top of your roofhuh

That's a very big risk na.
Moreover you don't need to half importation to boost local production. Make locally produced goods more preferable and people will go for it

We already have more than enough persons trained in Nigeria for the installation and maintenance of renewable Energy, there was a compact signed and 11 African countries sent people to the UK for this. I was there at this event for the first 4 days.
What they are saying is Ban importation of Solar panels. The said nothing about Inverters and charge controllers,If you know as you claimed, why dont they ban importation of charge controllers and Inverters too? cos with these you can still charge our batteries via PHCN and not need panels, cant you see the hand writing on the wall yet huh huh
Re: Nigeria To Halt Importation Of Solar Panels by JustPowerApps(m): 1:13pm On Mar 26, 2025
In short, you realized Nigerians are switching to Solar, so Mr Authority, Oga Presido decide to end it.
Re: Nigeria To Halt Importation Of Solar Panels by onatisi(m): 1:21pm On Mar 26, 2025
what i have noticed about this tinubu government is that they always put their eyes on taxing anything Nigerians are patronizing wildly, instead of encouraging people, they will find ways of frustrating people. Renewable and solar energy are the way forward in this era. As we are now, govt should be encouraging electric cars and motorcycle now in order to reduce the dependency on oil

simple logic...
the same mistake they made with rice, putting the cart before the horse, banning before you start producing enough in quality and quantity, they want to do same with Solar panels. Watch as price will skyrocket now.

This is what they should have started, bringing in the Chinese, telling them to set up factories in Nigeria to manufacture these panels and other solar gadgets, give them to federal workers at subsidised rates, it will flood the market and many will have alternative power supply.
But on a second thought, they can come tomorrow and say they want to start taxing people with solar power supply oo angry
. Nigerians are also doing those solar panels.....why bringing in the Chinese?

God wan punish this one

We stopped importation of rice & local rice with poor quality became expensive than imported rice with high quality.

Who tells you that we can manufacture solar panels at cheaper price here in Nigeria?

Even imported petrol is cheaper thanovally refined

Government cannot provide us power supply still wanna block our access to power supply despite the fact that solar is not cheap

It seems this government is mad
since nigerians have refused to stand up and be counted, e go continue.

they are coming for the air you breathe next.

Re: Nigeria To Halt Importation Of Solar Panels by mrkingshok(m): 1:46pm On Mar 26, 2025
These people are thieves. So because nobody is patronizing their nonsense panels in the market, now they want to force it to us down our throat by force?

The best thing is to buy good enough panels now to increase the number, so if they eventually try this plan, it will never affect me. Thanks God am getting this news right now.
Re: Nigeria To Halt Importation Of Solar Panels by harmony940(m): 1:47pm On Mar 26, 2025
Personally i bought their panels 2 years ago at Karishi Abuja, and its still working very fine, it was a bit expensive than the Chinese ones, but more rugged because the chinese ones are not working anymore...

Curiosity made me browse through their website NASENI and i found out they have 11 developing with different mandate, i thought it was only situated in Abuja.
