Maybe the administrator observed that they were sabotaging him or unwilling to cooperate with his administration.

It is a familiar attitude with River State workers when they see a non indigene in leadership positions within their state.

I am saying this based on my personal experience. I worked in a company in Port Harcourt and faced all kinds of attitude, frustration, and........

All because they feel you can't just come from........ and be their boss.

The administrator did the best thing by suspending those officials. They must have been clogging his wheels in the effort to drive the administration.

Nigeria’s democracy is being gutted in broad daylight, and the culprit is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has now assumed the power to erase an entire democratically elected government at will. The appointment of Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Retd.) as Sole Administrator of Rivers State is nothing but a blatant power grab, a move so anti-democratic that it reeks of military-era dictatorship.

Who gave Ibas a mandate? No one. He wasn’t elected. He wasn’t chosen by the people. Yet, here he is, dismissing an entire government like a colonial viceroy. The suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and every single elected legislator in Rivers State is nothing short of a political coup—one that erases the will of the people and replaces it with an emperor’s decree.

And what is the justification? “Political tensions” and “pipeline vandalism.” Convenient excuses. If insecurity justifies the complete dissolution of an elected government, then why is Tinubu still in office despite the country spiraling into economic ruin, banditry, and kidnappings?

This is the creeping autocracy Nigerians should fear. Rivers State is just the beginning. Today, Fubara is suspended. Tomorrow, who’s next? If we accept this, no state is safe from federal hijacking. Democracy dies when elections no longer matter.

Tinubu, history is watching. Nigerians are watching. And this shameless power play will not be forgotten.

Hmmm...

I think by the time the Governor returns, he will find himself working with and surrounded by people he didn't appoint.

I also suspect that as part of the settlement deal for his return, he will have to agree to appoint a certain number of Commissioners, and key political appointees nominated by the Wike side.

There's also a good chance that Mr Fubara will meet a new Chief Justice.

The local governments too will most certainly not be under his control.

All of these will leave a returned Mr Fubara defenestrated, and more or less toothless. In office but not in power. He will still be able to govern, but only on terms acceptable to, and probably dictated by the Wike side.

If the above plays out as I speculate, Mr Fubara will have been on the receiving end of one of the most ruthless political beatings ever ditched out to a Governor since 1999.

First Administrator can not remove chief judge, neither can he suspend.

Secondly, when FUBARA returns, he too will remove all appointees of Administrator and asks his own to return to offices.

Meanwhile, with so much widespread condermation,Tinubu doesn't have that boldness to remove FUBARA permanently under any guise.

1. No one has to remove the Chief Judge. He can remove himself. Remember he has been reported for age falsification. If there's truth in that, and there is a real possibility he will be prosecuted, he will accept a deal of voluntary resignation rather than being charged to court.

2. As for Mr Fubara returning and reappointing the suspended political appointees, you forget that Mr Fubara will not return unless he reaches a peace accord with members of the House of Assembly. I speculate that any such accord will require the appointment of new Commissioners, SSG etc. and the Wike side will nominate a fair number of the new Commissioners.

3. I understand that the President was not in favour of impeaching Mr Fubara, hence the lesser option of State of Emergency. Forget about the President being under pressure to reinstate Mr Fubara. Mr Fubara will not return unless he settles with members of the House of Assembly. Afterall what will be the point of ending the SOE if the bickering parties are still at loggerheads.

My overall assessment is that settlement will only happen if Mr Fubara agrees to certain conditions from the Wike side, and some of those conditions will inevitably tie his hands as Governor.
