Some of these bills are so obviously anti-people, for example: A Bill for an Act to Alter the Concurrent Legislative List of the Second Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Insert a New Paragraph which Provides for "Road Toll and fortters
Low income earners which characterise most of Nigerian adult population will have an additional financial burden to the ones they're crumpling under.

This is number 3 on the list.
Go sleep

Bill #24 right ABOVE is a good way to bring in high-value investment funds in exchange for Nigerian citizenship.

Bill #23 is NOT gonna be acceptable as many illegal immigrants such as the West African Fulani herders and others would migrate from foreign countries to start claiming indigeneship of States belonging to other indigenous people. Bill #23 must be REJECTED ASAP!

Even if only about 1/3rd of all of this is eventually passed into law, that constitution would have been solidified as the most official useless agreement on the planet. A country in the hands of kakistocrats will ever remain useless to those who are ruled by them. undecided

Tinubu cannot scrap the Senate. He doesn't have the power.

Ironically, only the NASS can amend the Constitution to scrap the Senate.

The president can send bills to the national assembly demanding that the senate be scrapped at the end of his administration. It will get accelerated hearing because it's from the presidency. But that man is not there to work for the interest of Nigérians. Years ago, Senegal scrapped their senate to save their country money.

I lost interest in this House - since they rescind decisions on the Immunity of Governor, Immunity, Deputy, etc.
I see their decisions as Cowardice.

That is what you should have written.

Our bicameral legislature (two-house legislative system) is a product of the Constitution and so, technically, only the NASS can alter it.

The president does not have the power to scrap it.

WHAT CAN THE PRESIDENT DO THEN?

1. Send a bill to alter that part of the Constitution to the NASS.

2. Entertain a referendum where the people themselves vote for whether they want this bicameralism or they would rather have unicameralism. But the problem with a referendum is that it is not clear whether the Constitution provides room for a referendum in Nigeria.

WHAT CAN THE NASS DO?

The NASS is the law-making arm of the Federal Government. They make our laws, but with assent from the President which they can override with a two-third majority.

To abolish the Senate, a bill to amend the Constitution needs to either originate from the NASS or the Executive or even a private citizen (through the NASS.)

The bill needs to go through all the law-making stages and if it gets through, it needed to be assented to by the President to become law. The NASS can, however, pass it into law without the assent of the president with a two-third majority vote.

Another way for the NASS to abolish the Senate is to repel the decree of Abdulsalami Abubakar which created the 1999 Constitution. To do this, the NASS needs a two-third majority vote.

But the big question is: "Will Senate vote for itself to be scrapped?

The only way I see the Senate being scrapped is through the people. And it can only be achieved in either of two ways:

1. Referendum (which does not explicitly exist in our Constitution)

2. A revolution.

The restructuring of Nigeria has further kicked in through some of these bills. Some of the other bills have NO sustainable grounds though.

Interesting submissions. However I defer on No.15. Splitting the office of Attorney-General and Minster would bring more efficiency. Look at the American system where the DA strictly does prosecution.
The current set up derials and distracts the Attorney-General who is torn between Prosecution, Politics and bureaucracy.
This way the AG will know he is coming strictly as a prosector and seasoned Prosecutors would most likely be nominated. Then the Minster of Justice and be your regular politician

panpan:
The bills should not be rushed.
When there are a lot of bills being pushed forward at the same time, there is a chance that a dangerous bill may be passed without any critical examination.

Number 3: In summary, this bill is to make it easy for the federal and state governments to put up toll gates on the roads.

Number 7: In summary, this bill would make it easy for the state governments to impose lockdowns and house arrests on health grounds. It would no longer have to be a federal government directive. This is a dangerous bill and should be thrown out.

Number 9: This bill is not necessary. It would only increase the cost of governance.

Number 11: This bill is not necessary.

Number 13: This bill is a distraction. The Vice President, the Governors and the Deputy Governors would do whatever they can to throw this bill out.

Number 15: Separating the offices of the Attorney-General from the Offices of the Minister or Commissioners of Justice would increase the cost of governance.

Number 16: The Establishment of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation as well as the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federal Government would increase the cost of governance.

Numbers 17 to 20: Creation of additional states, in any part of the country, should not be contemplated for now.

Number 21: This bill is not necessary. The state governments should decide on traditional rulers.

Number 22: "Specify the Minimum Number of Youths and Women that May be Appointed into Specific Offices". This part should be removed. It is discriminatory based on age and gender.

Number 24: We should be careful about granting citizenship by investment. This may open the door for a lot of foreign business owners and their foreign employees to claim citizenship.

Number 27: "To Provide Additional Restrictions and Derogations from Fundamental Rights, and Additional Conditions for the Proclamation of State of Emergency by the President". This is a dangerous bill.

Numbers 34, 35, 40 and 42: Creation of additional local government areas, in any part of the country, should not be contemplated for now.

Okay.
I only stated that it would increase the cost of governance.
If the separation of the offices would create a more efficient system, then that's fine.

We need bill for unicameral legislation in Nigeria.

Bill to ensure that all election are conducted same day.

Bill mandating INEC to ensure that all results are transmitted electronically.

Not all those nonsense
Very useless bills in most cases. Imagine someone sponsoring bills to change name of a town. Sapele and Okpe...

I'm proud of Benjamin Okezie Kalu, his bills all make sense.

One Bob is there sponsoring a bill to remove LGs as third tier of government and to fully put their funding and creation under the state government, and this fool must have seen how the state government messed the LGs up, but look at what he's coming up with.

Instead of talking more on election and how to strengthen the LGs to be buoyant the deciders of who emerges for whatever position, here they're.
