Top 10 oil-producing states in Nigeria by daily crude output

March 26, 2025

The latest data from intelpoint reveals Nigeria’s top 10 oil-producing states by daily output. Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer, derives a significant portion of its revenue from crude oil exports. The country’s oil production is concentrated in the Niger Delta region, with a few states outside the region contributing to the total output.

Here are the top 10 oil-producing states in Nigeria, ranked by their daily crude output.

1. Akwa Ibom504,000 Barrels per Day (bpd)
Akwa Ibom leads the pack as Nigeria’s top oil-producing state. The state’s coastal location and vast offshore oil reserves make it a critical location for the country’s petroleum industry.

2. Delta346,000 bpd
Delta State is home to numerous oil fields and key industry players, including Shell and Chevron. The state plays a vital role in Nigeria’s oil revenue generation.

3. Rivers344,000 bpd
Rivers State, with its capital in Port Harcourt, is a major center for oil exploration and refining. The state houses several refineries and oil servicing companies, making it a crucial part of Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

4. Bayelsa290,000 bpd
As the home state of Nigeria’s first oil well, Oloibiri, Bayelsa is rich in crude oil deposits. Despite its relatively small landmass, it contributes significantly to Nigeria’s total oil output.

5. Ondo60,000 bpd
Ondo is one of the few southwestern states in Nigeria that produces crude oil. The state’s oil production is primarily offshore, contributing a modest but important share to national output.

6. Lagos40,000 bpd
Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, became an oil-producing state in 2016 when crude oil was discovered in its offshore fields. Although its output is relatively small compared to the Niger Delta states, Lagos has the potential for further oil exploration and development.

7. Edo33,000 bpd
Edo State contributes to Nigeria’s oil production with its onshore and offshore oil fields. The state’s role in the industry is growing, with new exploration efforts underway.

8. Imo17,000 bpd
Imo State, located in the southeastern region, has small but significant crude oil deposits. Its oil industry is still developing, with potential for increased output in the future.

9. Abia11,000 bpd
Abia State produces a relatively small amount of crude oil, but its contribution to Nigeria’s overall oil production remains valuable. Ongoing exploration efforts may enhance its output in the coming years.

10. Anambra3,000 bpd
Anambra is the latest addition to Nigeria’s oil-producing states. With an initial output of 3,000 barrels per day, the state is looking to expand its oil industry and increase production over time.

This life ehn. Pride goeth before a fall.

So all the crude oil from the South East (Anambra – 3,000 bpd, Imo – 17,000 bpd & Abia – 11,000 bpd) doesn’t even add up enough to the quantity of crude oil produced in Lagos yet all the VAT keeps going to South East and some ungrateful folks from the South Eaat call other Nigerians parasite. Empty barrels make the loudest noise. Smh..

Lagos State will catch up and overtake others ahead of it on this list some day.

The SouthWest is the future of Nigeria's petroleum industry. Very soon, Ogun State will join this list.

This is why we need more investments in oil and gas investments in Lagos State.
Invest in Lagos today.
May God bless Nigeria for ever!

Doctored data by agbadorian mutants in power. Lagos that has no functional oil wells is now bigger than the south-east combined!? Let's have an independent assessment. Starting to look like all these misfits in power do, is to juggle data and facts to reach their diabolical goals.
