Penguin2:If they have prime ministers for all the six geographical regions, it will work. African governments just don’t think right as they lack capacities to govern their people. A bill to give the traditional leaders constitutional powers just scaled second reading, which I think should be terminated. Sierra Leone that Nigeria modeled its democracy after jettisoned monarchy in 1971. Chinese in 1902, South Korea and India after. With Obaship, no nation fostered to its potential. |

247man:How will that work? A prime minister is a step down from an executive president. He will end up being in the armpits of the parliament. Likewise the ceremonial president in this case. So, how will wike and tinubu enjoy this arrangement? |

famouscargo4u:Regional government my left arse. A proponent of regionalism should not be suspending democracy in a federating unit. That act alone has exposed him as an expedient champion of regionalism. |

Penguin2:Brilliant analysis. But at least, we can revert back to regionalism and each region can control their resources and develop at their own pace. A weaker center will be helpful for us as a country. Parliamentary system ain't that bad |
| Re: Bill To Create "Office Of Prime Minister As Head Of Govt" Passes Second Reading by themanderon: 4:13pm On Mar 27, 2025 |
Presidential o, parliamentary o, so long as the same criminals are still going to be running for office it makes no difference. It's all about sincerity and if the rogues running the government are not sincere even the best government system would still not work. |

ogaemma:May God in his infinite mercy bless you These fools here saying they do not want parliamentary system here fail to realize 1. There will be a shadow cabinet that means, the opposition will be payed and politicians will be more relaxed not to defect to ruling party 2, There will robust debates always before money is spent and no one President can capture all the arms of government as we see now 3. Elections will be cheaper to conduct because you are only focused on your federal constituency and not the whole country 4. This will attract the best and the brightest members of the society to represent their people - Drug lords and criminals wont make it there 5. The shadow cabinet brings in a better opposition not like what we see now where politicians only wait for the next election 6. The Prime Minister is the Head of Government and the President has powers too to check mate the Legislative arm so there is balance 7. It is not a winner takes it all situation - coalitions exist and every party tries to outperform the other to gain the people consent always 8. The President and the Prime Minister (who are members of different parties must work together) not One man becoming a King over all 9. Tribal Marginalization will reduce as at least 95% of all tribes will have a chance to seat at the Federal Parliament with their Representatives 10. The Institutions like INEC, Police, Army , CBN etc are stronger in Parliamentary systems due to strong oversights. It was during Parliamentary system we had 23 years old Matthew Mbu become a Federal Minister in this Nigeria - Can that happen today? With Hundreds of Billions of Nigeria required to contest Presidential election ? so when that All powerful President emerges, why will he appoint any 23- year old who did not contribute anything financially substantial to his campaign? |

Yemmysworld91:Exactly my point! We need to go back to Regionalism with regions controlling resources. This can happen even with a presidential system. All we need is just the law that will enable it. I don’t see what is in the Parliamentary System that you guys admire so much. |
| Re: Bill To Create "Office Of Prime Minister As Head Of Govt" Passes Second Reading by ValarDoharis: 4:36pm On Mar 27, 2025 |
Its returning to the parliamentary system. There'd be no president. helinues: |

Penguin2:Stupid assertion. So Awolowo and Zik who struggled with for the control of western region can register a party but Ahmadu Bello should not. By the way, have you read about how Awolowo outmanoeuvred Zik for the control of western region. It does not matter who is the government or which government we have, as long as people will shroud their hypocrisy in the garb of enlightenment, Nigeria wont progress. |

akigbemaru:This doesn’t make sense to me. Some proposals are pure ludicrous. Do you know what it means to have 6 Prime Ministers? Which of them will be calling the shot? There’s nothing wrong with Presidential System of government. We just have had fools taking turns after each other. Get someone with brains in his skull as president and you see that there’s nothing wrong with the system. |

Big changes are coming! Tinubu isn't here to play o. Nigeria's system of government will change before Tinubu leaves office. Historic actions are going to be taken by this President, and it will be good for the continued existence of this country. |

Every bill scaling through easily with these morons are the ones that have to do with executives power with no one on food production and poverty elevation/eradication. |

shegz24:Reason for the change of the national anthem! We are diverse people of different ways of life a Nd cultures. The president is getting the job done to return us to parliamentary system of government inherited from the British. It's good we came to terms with our diversities, not pretending to be one. |

Penguin2:The North is not a monolith. Tafawa Balewa's party had the largest number of votes, but they were far from being the majority. They needed to form a coalition with another party to run the government. By the way, Obafemi Awolowo approached Azikiwe and asked for a coalition. Both parties, combined with some other Northern minority parties would have been enough to form a coalition. Azikiwe would have been prime minister and Awolowo wanted to be minister of finance. Azikiwe said no. Penguin2:After everything you typed, this was your conclusion? The very thing that causes the civil war was regionalism. |

helinues:That is one of the steps towards regionalism. Tinubu is definitely returning this country back to regionalism with all the bills being discussed at national assembly recently. |
| Re: Bill To Create "Office Of Prime Minister As Head Of Govt" Passes Second Reading by yemmit90: 5:21pm On Mar 27, 2025 |
olyrayy:Military men caused the civil war and not regionalism. Regionalism is the right way to go if this country is to work, and I see this step as a vital step towards it. |
