Eid-El-Fitr: Commercial Drivers Lament Low Turnout Of Passengers by treesun(op): 9:27am On Mar 30, 2025
Some commercial vehicle operators in Ibadan have lamented the low turnout of passengers travelling for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration and holidays.

The drivers, in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Saturday, said there had been no significant surge in passenger traffic at the motor parks.

NAN reports that the respondents spoke at the Ojoo, Iwo Road and Sango motor parks.

They noted that the situation was different from the rate at which commuters travelled during the 2025 New Year celebration.

NAN, however, reports a slight upward review of transport fares to the lesser cities, while the fare to Lagos and other major cities did not change.

Mr Azeez Abdullah, an official of the Park Management System (PMS) at Iwo Road Bus Terminal, said many were forced to celebrate in their base due to the nation’s economic realities.

This, he said, contributed to the low turnout of commuters across all routes.

He added that the transport fare from the park to Lagos remained the same at between ₦3,500 and ₦4,500, depending on the destination park in Lagos.

“Transport fare to Ilesa, Ondo and Ado-Ekiti stays at N4,500, N5,000 and N7,000, respectively; we cannot increase the fare now because passengers are not rushing,” he said.

Similarly, a driver at Ojoo Bus Terminal, who chose to be anonymous, reiterated that passengers were not travelling as expected, thus forcing commercial motorists to maintain the transport fare.

He, however, noted that passengers might pay a little higher while returning to their base after the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Increased kidnapping: Transporters adopt ‘soole’ method as low patronage hits inter-state travels
According to him, this will be due to the usual rush to catch up with the official resumption date for civil servants and other workers who must resume work.

A passenger at the Sango Motor Park, Mr Abeeb Adeleye, said he had stayed for hours waiting for a bus to Saki to be filled up.

He confirmed that there had been no significant increase in the transport fare due to the low turnout of passengers.

They are looking for opportunity to increase their fare. During the yuletide, these transporters becomes torn in the flesh of people even if there's no increase in fuel price. Govt deh do us, Citizens too deh do their fellow people, they make life uncomfortable for people at the slightest opportunity.

After government the people that should be lynched as transporters they are thieves robbers and blackmailers
They lie and use every opportunity to rob the masses! Their services are dirty and they represent the core rotten of Nigeria!

Especially Lagos, they collect the money, build house in the bush, marry illiterates and send their kids to public school with poor clothes and welfare.... !! with all the money they collect, Owo eepe!

Passenger that they don't respect, u need to see this guys talk about passengers behind their backs!

No one deserves to use public transport in Lagos

Bad economy policy is a general problem. The whole nation is suffering from a disaster of a President. There is holiday till Tuesday, people usually travel to enjoy with family and friends, but now traving luxury.

Your transporters are greedy set of people.how much is the cost of fuel and how many liters will take them to the destination? Check by the numbers of seats and that will tell you that they are exploiting you.

Country hard!!!!!
You wonder why a grown ass healthy man would think about suicide?
This is it..
How can a 28 year old man still finds it difficult to raise as low as #30,000 for a house rent for a while 365 days ?
It's really crazy and honestly, that's my story.. I work hard everyday, I don't smoke, I don't drink and betting ? I hate it to the core but yet my life is miserable and for the past one year, I am living like a church rat.
I was sacked at the place of my work Nov 2023 because the company could not meet up with the demands of paying all the staff salary, I was among about 7 people that were relieved of their duties... Since then I do all sorts of menial job since finding another job has become impossible for me. I live with a disability and I guess that's why most companies have been turning down my application... I started painting but job is not coming, the little I make is not even up to feeding not to talk of getting basic stuff for myself.. I am overwhelmed with debts and it's just getting worse....
Today's the 30th of March and my house rent of #2500 per month will be due with no hope of getting money anywhere, the only backbone I have is my mother who is old and struggling too.... Did I offend anyone ?
Why is my life so miserable ?
I do labor for bricklayers too but it is never enough....
Please I need help🙏
If you happens to come across this, please know that a troubled, tired and battered soul is the one behind this writing. I don't want to die in silence... I need a job, whatever it is, as long as I'm able to earn, I'm ready for it and in case God put my mercy in your heart, I still don't know how how I'm going to raise my house rent till Tuesday latest 😓 please help...
I didn't want to end it, please say kind words to my soul before I lose myself... I'm down,I'm down really bad... Nairalanders please come to my aid😭😭😭😭😭
