The proper saying should be academic failure does not define life success.

Dumb people can succeed too...

He is a practical example

Nothing smart about him
Not all who fail school exams are dumb and not all who passed in flying colours are smart. If U are anything close to being wise U will know that it's not all kids who has got the same gifts.

There's hardly any dumb person in reality some might be slow and others may be inclined towards other fields. But as Nigerians growing up everyone had to be very good in maths plus all the sciences to be classified as smart when in reality those who set the standards are the dumb ones. Know Ur child and their strengths, know where they naturally shine and steer them towards that part.

Not everyone will be good in maths and sometimes this is even due to wrong teaching patterns. Not all kids will do well in medicine or engineering. Some are gifted in arts and anything related while some also needs practical teachings and examples to really assimilate what is being taught.

I for one started out as a science student but switched to social sciences in my form 2 in secondary school. I loved biology but chemistry was too wide for me to grasp then and the teaching patterns weren't helpful. Physics was also interesting but I hated maths in short I dreaded it and in my ssce I managed to scale it after many tries but I excelled in every other subject.

It was an encounter with a Uniben professor during my preparation for jamb that opened my mind because of his teaching methods. Me that dreaded maths now fell in love with further mathematics. I found joy solving problems from it up to when I got into the university. I was the number one plug for calculus during exams. I fed almost an entire auditorium with solutions and no one failed but I always had a D but I didn't mind cos it was an elective course.

Even till now I'm still fascinated by derivation and permutations. It's always as easy as drinking water like my prof would say. Don't say he's dumb. No dumb person can succeed in the outside world. He probably had comprehension problems due to forces he couldn't control then or even understand.

You probably in the school of thought that academic success guarantees real success lol. Academic success is just a blueprint or road map for discipline. Real smartness is readiness for when opportunity comes and how prepared U are to take the wheels plus a lot more...

Formal schooling prepares you to get certificate to get a job to get salary, gratuity and pension. This is the way of BOOK SENSE.
You work hard for money generating active income. You must be available and awake in the process! There's little or no time freedom and almost certainly no financial freedom. There's almost no BUSINESS SENSE nor MONEY SENSE! With BOOK SENSE you're programmed to be Poor and Middle Class for life!

Redefining Success: How Olusoji Oyawoye Turned Academic Failure into Life Mastery

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acEyoHC0tcQ?si=M9DzGHBreMV3xsQ8

Olusoji Oyawoye, CEO of House 12, shares his incredible journey on The Bridge Podcast – from failing his secondary school exams with F9 parallel and graduating with a 3rd class degree to becoming a successful business and life coach.

He reveals why academic success doesn’t define life success and how self-recognition and strategic connections were key to his transformation.

Oyawoye also challenges Nigerians to stop changing themselves to please foreigners and to embrace their true identity.

Plus, he offers bold insights into Nigeria’s political climate, explaining why asking Tinubu to step down is a mistake.

This inspiring episode is packed with life lessons and fresh perspectives – don’t miss it!
Obviously he got F9s in his exams in high school and retook his papers in order to get into the Uni and graduated with a 3rd Class degree. Kudos to Olusoji Oyawoye on what he has become as of today as the CEO of House 12. The lessons learned are the key takeaways here for anyone with reference to the triumph of the human spirit.

I've known full well from reading advanced business and management books for over 35 year now that those who use more of their creative intelligence skills over their analytical intelligence skills (or book knowledge) are the wealthiest people in the multimillionaire and billionaire leagues on Earth today and this is based off of well-established global studies in wealth creation. This is why some well-read Professors are NOT as wealthy as some of their former (not so academically-inclined) students who went on to monetize problems around them by providing solutions. Think of Richard Branson as a case study here. There are other variables for success and wealth creation aside from the two aspects of creative intelligence and analytical intelligence but I'll stop here.

Last but not least, the ability to develop the creative aspect of your intelligence is the key to legit wealth creation through identifying opportunities ASAP and taking advantage of them through monetization. Period

He sounds very intelligent. It's likely he has a learning disability such as dyslexia that was interfering with his testing. Back then, such impediments were not recognised and the student would be criticised for being dull, instead of adjusting the teaching ethod to suit the student.
I think there's something that happened around him then that made him fail

Such as unconducive environment, too harsh people around

When such was removed, his intelligence improved but then he might have finished schooling

Cos by now, he wouldn't have failed if he attended school again

A lot of Nigerian youth still assume that academic success is automatically a path to success in life.
In some cases it is but not all the time.
Academic failure is also not an automatic path to failure in life.

They assume that because they have a university degree, that means they should have the best of the world. That might have been true many decades ago but the world has changed. Billions of people have college degrees now hence it's of less importance now.
Exactly

Here is a fun fact..in 1958, less than 3 % of UK citizen who were eligible went to universities..the number was even slightly better in the USA at seven percent.

Of course back then one got plum jobs on graduation.

Same thing in Nigeria.

What's your definition of dumbness?

Mumu man, even the genius Albert Einstein said if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, then you will think the fish is dumb.

Everybody has a specific gift that will propel them to greatness, the man has found his own path.

Na the Koko be that bro and it's where our very own academic structure is failing the future not us. They set a particular standard for all to follow forgetting we are all different entirely. It's why in the western world schools study the pupils from their very tender ages to know where they're good at and then discuss it with the parents so that the encouragement can come from home and then the school teacher will help shape them so it's not that hard. But U see Naija everybody must be A' student for maths, physics, chemistry, biology, and if they're not they wouldn't be recognised. And some will say social sciences, management sciences and arts are easy lol meanwhile they can't even write properly or paint or playwright or even argue constructively, manage and organise people to work in harmony etc so many other gifts to shine through but everyone must be in the sciences no be say 80% dey use am do anything last last.

...which is why he's not a failure. We don’t know how many times he tried before passing his exams, so if anyone is failing at something, they should not take the post as validation to accept failure.

I had to point that out because of the narratives already seen on the thread.
