aviara:The current constitution allows them to contest. But aboriginals know themselves; hence, politics is local. If you come to my LGA in Ifako ijaiye, Lagos, we can even trace our origin to either Yewa or Egba. A Lagos Islander can contest in Ifako Ijaiye, but we won't vote for him and that's our choice. |

The bill has good intentions and should be modified to give resident rights to contest for political positions in the state so long they have maintained a good record and have contributed to the development of the state The likes of Barrack Obama, Kemi Badenoch, Rishi Sunak etc rose to high political positions and contributed their quota to development despite being settlers or children of settlers. However, these rights shouldn't extend to traditional positions. |

ajailer:We know where they are going. I attended institutions and lived in the North and IBO land and I know the situation. I have also lived in Rivers State and Bayelsa State and I know the situations. In Kano where you have large population of IBOS living there for decades, none of them can even think of indigenizing their identity. The same happens in Suleja that is very close to Abuja. In Satellite towns located in Nassarawa States where the majority of the population is IBOS, it might not be possible but in Abuja and FCT it might be possible because the Gwaris have been settled out of the land and have no Kingdom or Emirate . In Plateau that I know very well, nobody can try that. In Abuja, in 2007, I have seen IBOS with International Passports with YORUBA names applying for UK Visa. Last year, I saw IBOS at Local government office, Iwo Road, Ibadan applying for National Identity Card using YORUBA names. That is Identity theft. Now, passing indigenization bill for Nigerians is targeted at some section of Nigeria. A YORUBA that has lived in Portharcourt or Warri or BAYELSA for 20 years can never be accepted as indigene even if the bill is passed and a YORUBA in those areas will never consider himself an indigene. I am yet to see what will make a YORUBA to enjoy indigene status in IBO land that I spent 6 years in the University several years ago. About 2 years ago some Northerners joined Army as Lagos indigenes but were detected. If indigene Bill had been passed and their grandparents have been at Agege or mile 12 or Obalende or Alaba rago, etc for decades, certainly they can use Lagos slots to join ARMY or Custom. They cannot try that in any South East or South South State. No Hausa or YORUBA is interested in indigenizing himself in IBO land. It is only in Yoruba land and part of the North we help people to get letter from our local governments as indigene because they are our friends, it is not possible in other places. |

| Re: Yoruba Group Rejects Bill Granting Indigene Rights Through Residency, Marriage by flokii: 10:08pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
aviara:No.. that can't work in a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria. It could lead to Rwanda kind of blo0dshed cum ethnic cleansing. Read the article again, you'd see why such must never be allowed.. there are some cultural practices that strangers can't go near e.g. oro etc.. We can see through their shenanigans. It's all in the bid for them to have access to contest Governorship in States like Lagos while they lock their own region and prevent others from getting political offices in the zone.. a Hausa-Fulani man once contested for ward councilor in one of the SE States, you need to see the insults and vile words they used on the Hausa man, yet same people are in Lagos, Abuja, Katsina etc. contesting elections and dragging elective offices with indigenes. |
| Re: Yoruba Group Rejects Bill Granting Indigene Rights Through Residency, Marriage by aviara: 10:08pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
It's very myopic if anyone thinks this bill is targeted on a particular state or region. There are some people who were born and have have lived all their lives in a region or state outside their state of origin. They have maintained a noble life and contributed to the development of the state. They should be free to contest political position at all levels in the state such as governor, senate, HoR, state house of assembly etc without discrimination. |

iLoveYouToo:Lol. Its not useless outside Africa. It's extremely important in Canada, USA and Australia. If I am aboriginal in Canada, I would pay less tax. I would have access to so many government funds, bursaries, job opportunities, scholarships e.t.c |
| Re: Yoruba Group Rejects Bill Granting Indigene Rights Through Residency, Marriage by aviara: 10:12pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
The likes of Tinubu and Sanwo Olu from the information at my disposal are not originally indigene of Lagos state but we can't deny that they have contributed positively to the development of the state. Political rights shouldn't be confused with traditional rights. If we truly believe in unity and equity, this bill will help create cohesion than confusion. |

| Re: Yoruba Group Rejects Bill Granting Indigene Rights Through Residency, Marriage by Slytiger: 10:19pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
flokii:The current constitution actually allows them. That's why you can see an Attah winning election in Eti Osa or Igbos contesting for election in Ibadan or Akure. However, it's up to the locals to vote for them. |
| Re: Yoruba Group Rejects Bill Granting Indigene Rights Through Residency, Marriage by Slytiger: 10:20pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
iLoveYouToo:Their are reservations in America. In reservations, you pay less tax. Aboriginal Americans aka Red Indians also get access to more bursary than a regular white American settler. In fact, in American reservations, aboriginals do not pay state tax on income. |

flokii:Vile words or opposition against a person's political aspirations because he is not an indigene won't stand so long the constitution gives such non indigene the right to contest for any position. Just like Rhodes Vivour was insulted and demonised because his mother is non indigene is a shameless act that divides us than unite us. |

aviara:Which IBO have the audacity to contest election in KANO? What will make an Hausa man to contest election in IBO land except a political arrangements to prove false narrative to other states. The Hausa / Fulani at ONITSHA and Enugu know they are strangers and they behave themselves very calmly. Most of the YORUBA AGBO sellers I see at Nnewi, ONITSHA and ASABA know they are strangers. At ONITSHA and other places in the South East, I see trucks (trailers) being harassed on the roads. They can never consider themselves as indigenes. Those ones selling Suya at Owerri for over 10 years can never consider themselves indigene. About 2 years ago some Northerners joined Army as Lagos indigenes but were detected. If indigene Bill had been passed and their grandparents have been at Agege or mile 12 or Obalende or Alaba rago, etc for decades, certainly they can use Lagos slots to join ARMY or Custom. aviara:Stop trying to gaslight. GRV was demonized becuase he insulted Yorubas and used tribal slurs on the people he wanted to govern. Gov Adeleke's mother is Igbo and he wasn't demonized. |

| Re: Yoruba Group Rejects Bill Granting Indigene Rights Through Residency, Marriage by Goodvibes007: 10:27pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
iLoveYouToo:Indigenes have easier access to state universities, state bursaries, state jobs e.t.c In Anambra, there was a post by Anambra state government where applications are only accepted from Anambra indigenes. You can't erode that and expect the indigenes to be happy. It would lead to violence. |

Slytiger:I know the constitution allows it, but the locals can and must reject strangers taking up sensitive positions meant to better lives of the indigenes.. I heard those who voted the Attah are regretting now as they can't see or talk to him anymore, he has joined in pushing anti-Yoruba agenda with the goodwill he got in a Yoruba State. Olorun a je ki Yoruba gbon.. that has always been my prayer for Yoruba race. Our people are not so smart compared with others. See Lagos that used to be serene and well organized is now more or less a slum and dirty State due to influx of migrants who refuse to hold their own State Governors accountable, instead run to South West to congest and pollute the whole place.. when election time reach, they'll go and gather at Lekki to push lies so they can attack Yoruba leaders and politicians. |
