kettykin:
Firstly, no one denies that Adaka Boro had every right to seek secession from the Eastern Region. But let's not pretend that his rebellion was some noble pursuit of an independent Niger Delta. He declared war on the very people who stood the best chance of fighting against the oppressive Nigerian state—people who, despite the conflicts of the past, still share a deeper historical and cultural connection with the Ijaw than the Fulani-led North or the Yoruba-dominated West ever will.

You argue that Ojukwu's response to Adaka Boro’s rebellion was the reason the minorities turned against Biafra, but history tells a different story. The Nigerian government, not Ojukwu, crushed Boro’s rebellion and imprisoned him. Ojukwu, a military governor sworn to uphold law and order in his region, had no choice but to respond as he did. To compare that to the Nigerian state’s persecution of Nnamdi Kanu is a false equivalence. Kanu was fighting against an established system of oppression; Boro took up arms against his own people at the wrong time and then sold out to the same oppressors he initially fought.

The regret of the Biafran War is shared by many, but if there's anything to regret, it's that our fathers didn't win. The suffering of the Ijaw people today is not because of Biafra, but because of Nigeria—the same Nigeria that Boro helped strengthen when he fought against Biafra on behalf of the very forces that now exploit the Niger Delta.

The Igbo have never been enemies of the Ijaw or any other minority group. If anything, we have been their strongest allies in resisting the northern oligarchy and the western economic domination. The fact that Ijawland remains impoverished and polluted today should make it clear that aligning with Nigeria was the real mistake.

That said, I welcome your call for unity in dismantling this colonial fraud called Nigeria. The Igbo and the Ijaw share a common enemy, and it is time we fight together rather than let past wounds divide us. But unity must be built on truth, not revisionist history. Adaka Boro made his choices, and those choices had consequences—not just for him, but for the entire Niger Delta. The time for blame is over; the time for strategic alliance is now.
Abeg die this matter. It's not the subject of this thread and a silly distraction

Why do they even have guns? Is it now permissible to go around with guns in Nigeria? Even dane guns?
Are those guns licensed?
Where is their hunting ground?
What animals were with them as their catch?
Why did they have so much cash?

Inasmuch as i don’t support jungle justice and extra-judicial killings, the docile, compromised and criminal Nigerian state brought this upon themselves!

I believe those northerners lynched in Uromi are not as innocent as we’re being made to believe! ‘Hunters’ indeed! Pray, are the forests of the south-south/Niger-Delta now teeming with wild boar, antelopes and other large game that hordes of northerners will now relocate to the area in droves with their ‘dane guns’, daggers and matchetes? Notice how emphasis is laid on the ‘harmless’ type of guns they were caught with, as if you’d have a dane gun pointed at you and you look it…look at the holder….then look at it again and start laughing your head off instead of shooting your hands up in the air in fearful surrender as you piss your pants!

I know the kind sorrow and insecurity these sahelian criminals and their Nigerian security accomplices have brought to the south-east, so don’t blame me for now being cynical about any ‘explanation’ as to why a horde of northerners were caught travelling in the dead of the night with dangerous weapons!

In as much as I am an ardent supporter of Biafra, the Igbos, and Nnamdi Kanu, as an Ijaw man it annoys me a lot to read and listen to some of you talk rubbish about my people. Una dey craze well well.
And as much as I hate Adaka Boro myself for his myopic actions for supporting Nigeria instead of being neutral and pushed for the Niger Delta Republic that he had agitated for, I will not have you guys disrespect him. Neither Nigeria or the former Eastern government have a right over us as a people; because they never represented our collective interests. We are a people bound by circumstances of British colonial rules.
Adaka Boro had all rights to call for secession from the Eastern region, especially since the first coup happened which created distrust. But only for Ojukwu to crush it and send him to prison( same thing we accuse the Nigerian government of doing to Nnamdi Kanu). And then, within just a few months, the same Ojukwu who arrested and imprisoned Adaka Boro called for secession from Nigeria. How then do you expect Adaka Boro or the minorities to support Biafra after seeing how Ojukwu crushed the Niger Delta Republic movement? So, it's unwise for Igbos to accuse the Ijaws or other minorities for going against Biafra. We are not fools.
We the Ijaws in particular, have lost more than any group of people in Nigeria, except for the Biafrans killed, which also includes the Ijaws and other minorities. Our resources are being wasted in one Nigeria everyday, while the people remain poorer. Our air, water and land, are being polluted without consequences or compensation by one Nigeria. We are treated as conquered people and territory by the south west and north because of the Biafrans war. The Biafrans war remains our biggest regret till today. Something which wouldn't have happened if Ojukwu had allowed Adaka Boro and his newly declared Republic be.
So, you guys should stop disrespecting the Ijaw people. We are suffering because of Britain, Ojukwu, Gowon, Adaka Boro's shortsightedness, e.t.c. And today, Nigeria has failed all of us, and so it needs to be destroyed to allow everyone go their separate ways. As an Ijaw man myself, I have chosen to destroy Nigeria the little way I can, and if that means alligning with you Igbos and Biafra to do just that. There are no permanent enemies in politics but permanent interest they say.
You should do well to seek an alliance with us the Ijaws and other minorities in order to destroy this British fraud. So stop saying things that add salt to injuries.

Good points.

Though with the benefit of hindsight, it’s easy many years later to spot mistakes and easy to criticise actions and inactions of the actors of the time, more so when we’re not under the same pressure and confronted with the same existential threats that required immediate decisions to be made. Given how young and wet behind the ears the actors were, i think their ‘mistakes’ and ‘oversights’ can be understood even if not supported. I suspect if similar scenarios were to play out again today, the outcome would be different and more favourable to the ethnicities that made up the then Eastern Region.

I think it’s also important to point out that Adaka Boro was not being prevented by Ojukwu or The Eastern Region to secede the Niger Delta Republic. They didn’t have such unilateral powers. Rather it was the Nigerian state that prevented him from doing so!

I believe all indigenous peoples have the right to determine who they want to be compatriots with or even if they want to go it alone. That being said, i also believe Biafra had more of a justification for wanting to secede than Adaka Boro had with the Niger Delta Republic. The Biafra effort was more defined and consultations were more than that of the Niger Delta Republic effort. Also Nigeria was just about 6 years into its ‘independence’, and given how well the Eastern Region was doing in global economic and developmental indices, a bit more patience would have served the Ijaw better.

All of a sudden, an armed Fulani man is a hunter, crazy exchange rate😂😂

What are Fulani hunters hunting in Port harcout, where are vast lands in sambisa forest and other northern states, all the way from sokoto to portharcout to "hunt" then passed thru Edo on their way back to North, inside dangote truckhuh

Even dangote needs to be investigated at this point, are his trucks now being used to ferry "hunters" across the states instead of cements and raw materials?
Dangote trucks are the primary means of movement of these Fulani killers.

The main question am still trying to answer is, why will hunters travel to South South to hunt , when has hunting be a trans state profession . The whole of Sambisa forest is enough for any hunter to practice their hunting skills.

God bless Sunday Igboho ,these nonsense should not be tolerated.

...and why is police always releasing those accused when they hand them over to them.
They were obviously hunting for human beings (edo indigenes). This governor should be careful the way he plays politics with his people life.

One major question should be why did Fulani hunter hid themselves in a Dangote truck if they are legitimate hunters?

Let's for a second forget about the ammunition and cash found with them.

Dangote trucks enjoy little or no scrutiny down South and I believe that these trucks are mainly used in conveying terrorists and ammunition across the southern borders.
Exactly 💯

These guys loot the funds from state allocations arising from sale of crude gotten from same Niger Delta region

Then they use the loot to fund terrorists activities attacking the same unarmed Niger Delta people unprovoked with the backing of Nigerian police and Nigerian military

This is wickedness of the highest level.

I hope that Okpebholo governor will read this and get all the facts of the incident before wasting Edo people's money in paying some useless compensation! Those guys were the kidnappers who had been terrorizing the south all these years!

Our southern governors and political class need to do away with their slave mentality of trying to please the northern political elites in everything! It is disgustingly shameful the way southern leaders shiver at any slightest show of dissatisfaction against the south by the northern political elites
While I condemn extra-judicial killings and mob Justice, the attempt to explao away the large cache of arms found with the Housa or Fulani travellers by labeling them as Hunters begs a lot of questions.

1. What means of identification was on then to identify them as hunters. Professional hunters have several associations and some even have uniforms. Not a single hunters association in the country has come out to identify with the victims and not a single.uniform or identity card has been presented as evidence to support the hunters traveling claim.

2. What are Hausa/Fulani hunters really doing in Port Harcourt, assuming they are genuinely hunters? Is it believable that they left all the north and middle belt to hunt for bushmeat in Port Harcourt? Do the swamp forests in and around Port Harcourt look like good game hunting grounds compared to the Northern Savannah and Middle Belt Forests?

3. Assuming without conceeding that the Hausa/Fulani travellers are truly hunters as claimed, what is the rationale in carrying large cache of arms across inter-state borders in a region and country rife with insecurity? Did they get permission from the Police to move such large cache of arms and are the arms duly registered with the Police?

4. What genuine explanation is available for the large amount of.money found with the travellers running into millions of naira?

I very much question the label of Hunters given to the Hausa/Fulani travellers. There are so many questions begging for answers. Focus should not only be on finding their killers but also investigating the Hause /Fulani "Hunters" to unravel their mission and purpose in the south. 9f they are indeed kidnappers, then the remaining travelleds should not go scotfree just as the fate of the people that murdered their colleagues.
