I've never been a fan of building to rent as I've heard scary tales about tenants but I had no choice due to certain circumstances. I was far away from lagos when the caretaker called me some months back that he has gotten someone for one of the apartments. I spoke with the so called Tennant on phone and asked a few questions. Are you single? No I don marry with one pikin. Not a fan of kids in compound. Not even a fan of married people. But it's still overlookable. what do you do for a living I get barbing salon to support my side hustle. To support side hustle? I was already thinking of something else as most yahoo boys own stuffs like barbing shops to support their side hustle. Well I just gave him the benefit of the doubt and asked him to pay the caretaker and move in. Few months later I was in lagos and I saw him for the first time. Ear rings , tatoos, I was like damn, damn, not yahoo boys again as they tend to be very difficult to live with. Well, the damage is already done as he had paid and moved in already. My first few nights were kinda hell as he runs gen all almost half of the day and all through the night. He doesn't even switch off his gen at dawn after running through the night. Fuel always finishes in it, he doesn't switch off. Not been easy as I find it difficult to sleep with noise not to talk of generator noise. 1 Like 1 Share |

There is nothing to do about it as long as the tenancy agreement you signed with him contains nothing concerning the use of generators. What if louder noise comes from a nearby church or residence? Won't you cope or will you try to chase the occupants of that building out of the building? 1 Like |

As the landlord/lady, call a meeting and inform tenants that all GEN should be off by midnight. If you don’t like it, get a refund and get the Bleep out 7 Likes |

When building always build a generator house where all tenants must put their generator, the gen house should have a little distance from the house 🏠 this will reduce the noise and damage the generator smoke/engine oil will cause to the building |

GeneralPula:It actually can. I've been in this dilemma before. The generator runs all through the night. If noise pollution was a machine, it would be this gen. It was so loud as though the machine was in my room. The owner turns it on at 7pm and turns it off at 6, completely taking sleep off my eyes mo matter how I tried. As someone who cannot afford to sleep in the morning due to my studies, I had to move out of that compound. |

GeneralPula:Individuals have different personality traits. Some of us inherited survival instinct from our ancestors. This includes the ability to remain aware of our environment even while deeply asleep! The slightest change in light intensity, strange sound pattern, talk little of the ground-shaking vibration of a generating set will give us profound insomnia, migraine, restlessness, overall body pains and reduced productivity at daybreak! Furthermore, the security risk of working a loud generating set overnight is far costlier and deadlier than the benefit... It gives criminals the confidence and cover to operate without being heard. The generator noise will drown out any alarm raise where such criminals are sighted. Unless it is a sound-proof powerplant, any noise-polluting generator should be put away between the hours of 12am-5am. 3 Likes |
