N500,000 is les than $320 dollar, so this is a sad death for a country where billions is used to stone devil in another continent and where schools are underfunded. That's like hajj pap n akara allowance for one malam in holy area abi na land.

No government teaching hospital will ask you to pay 1 naira before attending to an emergency patient, NA UNA WON GO DIE FOR PRIVATE HOSPITAL!!!

➜He was just a regular guy who expected his wife's pregnancy to pass without a major event - like most pregnancies. Unfortunately, his fell among the minority. It's not the hospital's fault, but a working society should have system in place that ensure emergencies cases like these are taken care of at public expense.
A working society where people who cannot afford to pay for emergencies will leech off of others who can, is that it? Isn't that what the world is now tired of? undecided

He chose a private hospital that he could not afford seems to be the major problem here. undecided

A heartbreaking tragedy has sparked outrage online after a Nigerian man shared the devastating story of how he lost his pregnant wife and unborn child due to alleged medical negligence and the demand for an upfront payment before treatment. In two emotional clips making rounds on social media, the grieving husband is seen cradling his lifeless wife while recounting the harrowing experience.
According to him, they rushed to a private hospital in urgent need of care, but were turned away because they couldn’t immediately pay a ₦500,000 deposit.

Despite his pleas for the hospital to begin treatment while he sourced for funds, they allegedly refused and referred them to a general hospital far away in Epe, Lagos.Sadly, his wife passed away before they could reach the second facility.“They watched her die,” the husband said tearfully. “I begged them, but they drove us out like they didn’t care. How can life be so cheap?”The incident has triggered widespread anger on social media, with many calling for urgent reforms in the healthcare system and stronger regulations on emergency care. Nigerians are demanding accountability and justice as they question how a medical institution could allegedly prioritize money over saving lives.

Government hospitals in Lagos will try to stabilize the patient in the emergency ward first and ask the family member to go do documentation.
I was wondering why they didn't go straight to a government hospital, since the husband knows he is yet to raise any money. Which hospital did she register for antenatal? Plenty questions to ask.

Very irresponsible man
It took 9 months to carry pregnancy but the man didn't prepare, he was busy wearing earrings up n down. He didn't even register the woman for antenatal

Why have a baby in the first place if you have no way of paying for it? Why go to a private hospital you cannot afford when you could maybe plan to get the service at a free clinic, assuming there are those in Nigeria? Couples have at least 9 months to plan where to have their baby and save up the much as they can afford to do so. So, why go to a place you cannot afford, expecting the private hospital to take a loss on your behalf? huh undecided
What do you know about the man to conclude he wasn't prepared?

Your wife is pregnant ( about to give birth) you have other kids and as their breadwinner, you don't have half a million in your account in this Tinubu economy

It's all shade of wrongs.

I believe his wife registered at an hospital for antenatal, he should have taken the wife to the hospital instead.

Stop tribalism! It is the same poverty that driven your people to produce fake drugs from their sitting room to kill many innocent souls. It is the same poverty they complain about that made them engage in baby factory businesses and drug businesses. At times before you put your something in her, it is better to first count the cost before you begin building. Gather as much as you can for before that nine month reach. You can't totally blame the hospital too because of diverse of experiences patients had made them to pass through. May God comfort him and the people she left behind. Very painful indeed!

Always plan and prepare ahead in case of eventualities, not when kasala burst will you start pointing fingers, they had a whole 9 months to prepare for the birth, why blame a hospital that is protecting itself money-wise? For them to insist on payment first, that means they must have been scammed by patients who ran away without paying for treatments, so I do not blame them.

Rip.
Raise the bar please. Life is more precious than this.

Must u go to private hospital? There are even local yoruba women that give birth to babies for low income families. For them to request initial 500k deposit means its an expensive hospital. didn't she go for ante-natal? what happen to the hospital she was using all these while?
You're making sense.

We are fond of misusing the idea of intervention or emergency in Nigeria. They are for cases like these where the couple can't easily replace what is at stake - life.
Do we know why the hospital refers them to another clinic?

This isn't the government's fault. The government does not run private clinics. This man chose to go to a private hospital he could not afford and got himself in this mess as a result. If this were in a developed country, one would even wonder if this was intentional on his part. undecided

You need to take sentiment and emotion out of it. I grew up in Bariga and I watch people goes to labor room and the husband could not provide common hundred naira in late 90s. Pregnancy is a long haul business. You have at least 8 months to start to save before your wife delivers.
We are quick to mention Dane climate but they prepare more than Nigerians who knows we have the worst healthcare sector. Healthcare is business and no matter how government trys, people must take steps to prep for situation like this. Do you know it cost $2k to get an ambulance to hospital in US? On the average, air ambulance cost $60k and most insurance only pays $5k. RIP
to the dead.

The story no clear. We don't have the facts. A woman in labour cannot just die suddenly. So many other things would have happened that we have not been told. From experience there most likely will have been irresponsibility on the part of the husband/patient too. From experience, our people usually reject medical advice only to rush the patient to the hospital at the point of death and mount pressure on health workers to do magic at the last point. But they will not tell their own side of fuckup to the public. Speaking from multiple
experiences. It's unfortunate that this young lady lost her life this way. We need an independent review of what happened.

I want to believe you're a woman.

Choosing bottom line over two lives, one of which is unborn, is not only cruel, but the highest form of inhumanity. The Hippocratic Oath specifically mentions preservation of life. Who says the family might not get financial help after all said and done?

How Come there was no public hospital no where near their location since you say the government has no fault. The private hospitals were supposed to be for those who can afford the services and complement the government hospitals when necessary. They are not supposed to be the main/only option.

Did he really have a choice in this matter?

In an emergency, what you see is what will give you the help you need before the reality of the cost sets in. What the man's wife needed was a hospital, where he went to is a hospital which by chance, is the closest to him.

I pray you never have an emergency. People with all the money in the world have died in same.

Nonsense!

2. That bottom line most likely comprises the lives of the hospital workers and probably some pregnant women(babies in their bellies). Who are you to decide that their lives don't matter because you would rather engage in emotional blackmail in an absurd attempt to win an argument online?🥱🥱 🥱 🥱

3. Nonsense! The hospital administration that the doctors and nurses work for determines whether they can, under their employ, save or not save. If you wanted a doctor to heal you on demand, then you would have to find and pay one for yourself. undecided
