what major economy decides that they'd rather be importing what they have the capacity to produce for their use and even export?
Why produce something that can be obtained cheaper by imports, while you focus on producing more valuable things to pay for the imports and still have plenty left over to oppress the clueless countries who are doing farming?

okay, I get your point. But let's take Rice as an example, although I support importation for now, but do you think, importation will be cheaper if we have enough rice farmers and Mills, good roads, cheaper petrol/diesel for transportation, farm incentives, good security in the country as well as secured borders to forestall illegal exportation?

You are missing the point entirely.

Do you think that a single farmer, even with all the sophisticated machinery and equipment, could be more productive than a single factory worker?

Again, before you answer this comment, please read and reflect on whether newly developed countries in Asia focused on agriculture or they focused on manufacturing. Also whether the countries that have been developed for long, have agriculture contributing more than manufacturing to their GDP as well as employment.

Modern agriculture requires heavy investment in machinery, chemicals, and skilled labour. The days of "one man and his hoe" are gone forever.

Nigeria's small-scale farmers cannot deal with the shocks of insecurity, climate change, currency fluctuation and poor logistics. An industrial-scale farmer like Olam can develop instruments that hedge against the risks
of insecurity, climate change and unstable currency.
Succinctly stated.

It's the new normal in the global agribusiness ecosystem moving forward.

Even to plant ordinary tomatoes the black man still need the white man to teach him in this 2025
smh That's not what this is, bro. Chill.

There are developed countries that collaborate like this all the time. Different states within one country collaborate like this. No matter what you're doing, there's always someone with better techniques/technology/systems/resources/knowledge. There's countries with bleeding edge tech that can't produce the same quality of certain things because they can't artificially imitate ideal natural conditions, or they don't have the same knowledge as the people who have been growing it for thousands of years.

There are scientists from all over the world that meet every month in different conferences to learn from each other. These are people with natural talent, PHDs, industry experience, and who have been teaching and managing people for most of their life. And they still learn things from people way younger and less educated than them.
