You can cry all you want but that's how it works. Thats why there is health insurance. Get it for emergencies. A private hospital is under no single pressure to treat you without paying thats the simple truth. People have to be smart and start taking their health more seriously, if only this man had health insurance it would be a different story. Also he had the opportunity to go to a government hospital where Tinubu had ordered weeks ago that emergencies due to pregnancy will be treated for free but he nor go. We should learn to hold the right people accountable. Nobody went to school to treat you for free. It doesn't happen anywhere in the world. If the patients aren't paying, government is paying. Someone must pay. This your strategy doesn't hold any water its just like asking civil engineers to build free houses for homeless people. It doesn't work like that. We should be intentional with our health and not expect free health care which is a privilege not a right. |

E no go better for you anyone who wants to turn this sad event into religious or tribal issue. The whole world knows that Nigerians don't value human lives. |

DrFunmisticGlow:And for these reasons, if you make it into the House of Reps, you'd introduce a bill to stop poor people (or anyone who can't put aside, say, 500k from having kids?) Goodluck with Utopia. It's ok for you to use your present position to advise individual parents to have fewer kids. But a blanket stance that says have kids if you can raise 500k is utopia. It is not achievable. Even if it is achievable, it is a terrible idea - I don't even have time to explain the ramifications to you. But I'd just tell you that Lee Kwan Yew tried it in Singapore. He was encouraging rich women to have kids and poor women not too - reportedly sterilised some of the poor women while at it. Today, that country's demographic issues are so bad that once it's 8pm, they start playing jingles on radio reminding people to go home and have sex. They want kids! A perfect society does not exist. Every society goes through its phases. What happened to that man is sad. But it was NOT preventable. The only way to prevent it would have been for him not to marry or get her pregnant. And the day that happens (poor people, 70-80% of Nigerians, stop having kids) will never arrive. |

Are you currently in Nigeria or perhaps even a typical Nigerian? Many people are finding it incredibly challenging to save even N50K over the course of a year, let alone N500K in just nine months. What may seem manageable for you can be a significant struggle for many average Nigerians today!!! Kobojunkie: |

Doobie:All the more reason to plan religiously no? There are options, health insurance, government hospitals, use of contraceptives to stop getting pregnant. We need to learn to cut our cloth according to our size. Its even more critical now |

It seems the wife was already dying before he took her to the hospital, he should be charged for negligence or wife’s endangerment for not immediately taking his wife to the general hospital as recommended. It takes 9 months to prepare for this, so he couldn’t put that together throughout the period? If you can’t afford 500k then he had no business getting her pregnant. He killed his wife. |

Shokoloko:Ask a woman? We're having total different conversations. Like I'm on one subject and you're on another. Bad thoughts running through some women's mind before delivery is totally understandable. Same thing happens to some people when they're about to enter an aeroplane. That's because although the chances of an air crash are very low, air crashes are real and do happen. Not sure where you're getting your stats, but Google says the percentage of births via CS is around 2.7% in Nigeria. It further says it's 5.2% in urban areas and 1.2% in rural areas. (I can tell you why it's higher in urban areas). Whatever the true figures, what you fail to realise is that only things that happen around you tend to be real to you. I know there are all sorts of movements pushing all sorts of agendas nowadays, but that woman that was stranded in an uninhabited Island with some men, slept with one of the men and had a child. Why? Because mankind has never seen pregnancy as war anywhere. Mankind has always seen pregnancy as a normal biological process which carries some risks, risks that occasionally become a reality. My mother had 9 children. No CS. My sisters? Not 1 CS. My sisters-in-law? None. Yet you expect me to live in mortal fear of this 50-50 figure procured from God knows where? Even if it were true, people typically reference those around them. Less educated people, more so. |

Doobie:They are finding it hard to save money yet they are still getting pregnant and having kids. Are they imbe-cile? :🤔 2. What is manageable? You no dey read of people in other climes giving up entirely on having kids because it the cost of having and raising kids continues to go up. Yet you dey talking of some manageable nonsense? 🥱🥱🥱 |

hotspec:The incident is a very sad one. A human life is very important. However, hospitals are business entities out to offer services for a price. If you have or ever had a doctor friend or relative and they tell you how people refuse to pay after treatment, you'll understand why private hospitals demand money before commencing treatment. Some people go as far as blackmailing them when they pressure them to pay, calling them as sorts of names. You must understand that they buy drugs with money, pay rents and bills with money, pay taxes, pay salaries with money. No doctor should let a person die because of money but people should also do better by paying their bills after treatment. I am currently battling to recover a huge amount of money from someone to whom I released some items without receiving payment due to how urgent he sounded with pleas and talking like a very good person. It's been almost four months now and not even half of the money has been paid. I have sworn to myself never to have compassion on anyone ever again when doing business. It's better people call me names than my business crumbling! |

tosyne2much:Longtime Tosyne. It has to be CS and reading the story again, I strongly suspect she didn't have antenatal there. She was most likely in distress before he brought her there. They must have planned using those informal maternity homes, before water come pass garri. |

He could have mention ed the name and location of the hospital to save other pregnant women. I wont be surprised if it is a teaching hospital, these days all they do is breed killer doctors and nurses. The one in my state is a perfect example, with the price of kidneys going in millions they won't hesitate to end you if they have the opportunity. |

Chilipepper:This woman would have been safe if… 1. The lawmakers of her country cared about making laws to enhance the quality of life of an average citizen 2. The law enforcement agencies valued lives over money and uphold humanitarian values in high esteem, such that the presence of a cop with his ID card, would put the hospital staffs in the required stance to attend to the pregnant woman. 3. The president of the country had genuine concern for the wellbeing of the citizens. That medical bill at 500k naira today, is affected by so many factors like Tinubu’s inflation and erratic taxations. 4. If the mindset of the average Nigerian exceed stomach infrastructure and greed, like her leaders’… Nigeria happened to this couple. Whether Nigeria happens to you, is not a matter of prayer. It’s a matter of facing your reality and taking responsibility to shape that reality. |

descarado:I'm not condemning the American social welfare system as you think. The comment I made was addressed to someone here who has been taken undue advantage of it for years without any attempt on her part to work and pay taxes for others to benefit the same way she has been benefiting She's always proud to say she's happily unemployed in the US. How can such person still open their mouth to criticize others who are not sitting at home idly but doing everything to fend for themselves and their dependants. As for me paying taxes in Nigeria? I will only speak for myself. I pay it every month from salary both paye tax and contributory health scheme .It's deducted from source. |

TheOldGods:son, let me ask you these Are you a married man? If you are, have you experience delivery moment with your wife right inside the delivery room? Have you been there, I mean right inside the delivery room with your wife , that is if you have one at all, everything was going fine and all of a sudden the unexpected happens? I use to talk like the way you just did until I experienced one with my wife right in the labour room. keep praying against quack or medical personnel wit little experience to attend to your wife or the hospital that dnt have good medical tools or facilities. In my own case, preparation was made but the delivery took us to anoda direction dt I Neva expected we had to be referred Frm one hospital to anoda. From the very first hospital we did antenatal dt couldn't handle the delivery to referrals was an experience mouth cnt say it all. First hospital we were referred to, no doctor on ground to attend to us. Second hospital, doctors came out and refuse to attend to us because we weren't naval staffs as they said , it is only naval officers dt cn use their hospital. third hospital, doctors came out and outrightly refuse to take us in. This was around 2am. moving from one point to anoda inside ambulance searching for a good hospital till the fourth one accepted us. We got to the fourth one around 6am. labour was already at an advanced emergency. I saw ween. I know how many kg comot Frm my body dt month. I loose massive Weight in few days. people go see me for wrk. go ask , "oga ,are you sick" I know how much I spent . I really spent far beyond my financial budget for a normal safe delivery. ThankGod both mother and baby survived it. |
