China, in the wake of President Trump’s latest tariffs on foreign trading partners, announced Friday it will hit the U.S. with a 34 percent reciprocal tax on imports starting next week.

“The US practice is inconsistent with international trade rules, seriously undermines China’s legitimate rights and interests, and is a typical unilateral bullying practice,” China’s State Council Tariff Commission said in a policy release.

The officials added that the move “not only undermines the interests of the United States itself but also endangers global economic development and the stability of the production and supply chain.”

The retaliatory tariffs, which were expected after the nation responded to the Trump administration’s imposition of 34 percent tariffs on top of an existing 20 percent tax, will go in effect on April 10.

The Chinese government also noted that it added 11 U.S. companies to its “unreliable entity list” and placed export controls on 16 firms to prevent the export of dual-use products.

Beijing also announced that it would put in export controls on seven rare earth minerals, such as gadolinium and samarium. Additionally, a probe was kickstarted into medical X-ray tubes, originating from India and the U.S.

Forget the initial reaction, who will buy their goods, Nigerians that is earning less than $1 a day.
None of the Nations can match the purchasing power of America. Trump is claiming there must be balance.

I will really like to see how all these trade war plays out . Can China and other nations do without the us economically ? Can eu afford to stay alone and not trade with the USA?can America survive on its own without importing any goods ? China can definitely do without USA that is. Fact

China doesn’t practice fair balance of trade. They will to be self-sufficient in everything if possible.

America, the largest holder of crude oil still imports, same as gold and other commodities. They import to help boost the economy of 3rd world countries but that has been taken for granted for years.

If in doubt look at the invest of the US in Nigeria, social, medical and economic. Their embassies (especially the soon to be one at eco-Atlantic) vs china’s representation. Next to none.

Most Chinese are fingered in illegal mining across Nigeria, how many Americans have been arrested in such.

Trade decently that’s what America is asking. Even EU has put restrictions on the purchase of renewable energy devices from China as they outbid EU producers due to their lack of care for human capital.

Their currency is too high, if you produce something there, nobody will be able to afford it. That's why China and South Korea kept their currency low, to encourage exports. Trump wants to force Nigerians earning 100k to buy from the United States when 100k is only 57 dollars. Why should Nigerians do that instead of buying from China or Vietnam?

I pity American farmers, a 2nd round of suicide, bankruptcy and recession is about to hit them just like the 1st round hit them during Trump's 1st term. China is one of their biggest purchase of wheat.

And that's why Trump is doing everything to bring back manufacturing to America. Nigeria should be doing the same thing, too.
But unfortunately we no sabi our left from our right. The Chinese have flooded our markets with finished goods that local business people fly to China to purchase. If we want to truly develop and prosper, our leaders must demand that foreign investors build factories or assembly plants in Nigeria. That's what Trump is also asking for.
