This brings back memories too.

My best friends in primary school were three: two females and one male.
Nofisa, Kafayat, and Abdulrahman. Yorubas from Ondo, Ogun, and Oyo States.

Nofisa beat the whole class to win Best in CRK in Primary 3 first and second terms. I beat all three to win Best in Yoruba in Primary 4 and 5. Yeah, ironic.

Primary 3 End of the Year Party was first term and we acted the birth of Jesus. I was Joseph. Nofisa was Elizabeth, and Abdulrahman was one of the Three Wisemen from the East. Mary was Tioluwani but she's not relevant to the story.

When I.R.K became an option in Primary Two (our Proprietor was a Muslim), they still continued to take C.R.K. classes, and Nofisa was on fire - she had Bible passages on lockdown, competing with me, a Sunday School champ.

Abdulrahman was even teaching me how to write in Arabic at some point and I could identify some words even.

Since he was my best friend, I'd wait with him to say his prayers at the mosque close to our school so we'd go play 'Police and Thieves with the others' between 2:00PM and 2:30PM when we had extra classes after regular school time, and he'd sometimes come with us to a Pentecostal church close by so we'd play lawn tennis from 4:00PM after our extra lessons ended till like 5:30PM when his family driver came to pick him and his sister home. And our folks took us home.

Nobody stopped him from entering the church. Nobody stopped me from entering the mosque. Our parents sort of knew but weren't religiously intolerant.

Funny thing is, Abdulrahman's mum was a core Muslim covered in Bukkah(?) and we never saw her face but she didn't make her son a fanatic.

That's why I do not agree with the lumping of South West Muslims with Muslims in the North. You need to have been born in or spent your formative years in the South West of Nigeria to know they are a moderate breed who aren't obsessed with religion. Well, it was my experience.

That's why I have issues with pro Palestinians.

A simple way to end the war is to end Hamas. This can be done without Israel firing a bullet and no one has to die. Except off course Hamas.

The church had a large field, including a small basketball court. We couldn't play football else we'd be really dirty and answer to our parents. Couldn't play basketball because we were small as kids so tennis it was. Either AbdulRahman, Onyebuchi or myself came with a tennis ball. Then we improvised rackets with planks and that way we stayed clean too. If we got lucky and the adults were around, we had access to rackets. Only a few times.

No, lawn tennis. On the actual ground. It was a pretty common sport. Or maybe it was just common in the circles I frequented.
