I’ve never understood why we were so quick to abandon polygamy just because the British came with their so-called holy book a mere century ago.

A man with one wife is not far from being a bachelor. This is because once the woman settles down, she can start her troubles and start rationing affection etc.

A man with 2 wives will be having alot of fighting to settle at home between both wives. But they will now be competing for his attention.

A man with 3 wives will have more peace of mind and attention. This is because the factions will be 2 by 2. First and second wives in one faction, the man and third wife in another faction. Balance of power, and that brings peace. They might still be disturbing the peace of the man at this stage but it's usually minimal.

A man with 4 or more wives is finally free from from women troubles, and shenanigans. And he will enjoy all attentions he deserves. This is because at this point, women know that their shenanigans and troubles will never bother the man again. They will either maintain peace or pack out of his house.

If not economic reasons, polygamy is the best for any man when it comes to marriages.

And that saying that the women will kill you if you have more wives is not even logical.

In monogamy, there's more incentive for the woman to kill the man because she gains all his property after he dies. This is why most men whose wives killed them are in monogamy.

If the man had say 3 or more wives with multiple children between the wives, the motivation for any of the wives to kill him is near zero because the man's property will be shared among the wives and children.

Monogamy gives women power over the man while polygamy takes away many of their powers. This is why all women, including my mama will not like polygamy.

While I believe in the ideal of one man, one woman and I am against polygamous form of family, the Bible shows us a different story. Figures like David, Solomon,job, joshua, caleb, Moses, and Abraham had multiple wives, yet God still loved and valued them. The debate over one wife or many can go either way. Ultimately, trying to love two women equally is impossible , and that struggle can be its own kind of heartache and that alone can lead to sin.
