ILLEGAL MINING: NSCDC DISLODGED MAJOR ILLEGAL MINING STRONGHOLD IN NASSARAWA ARREST 3 FOREIGN NATIONALS PLEDGED RELENTLESS ONSLAUGHT AGAINST ECONOMIC SABOTEURS

The Mining Marshals, a Special Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps with versatility in trainings and professionalism in field operations have secured a major breakthrough in a relentless onslaught against Illegal Mining in Nasarawa State.

In a tactically coordinated and Intelligence driven operations the NSCDC Mining Marshals stormed the crime scene and dismantled a heavily fortified illegal mining site in Rafin Gabas, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

It was earlier gathered that the site was protected by some compromised security personnel and had long operated beyond the reach of law enforcement.

The Special Mining Marshals Commander, Assistant Commandant John Onoja Attah said that his men successfully penetrated the stronghold and arrested 3 Chinese nationals caught in the act of illegal mining activities while some suspects took to their heels upon sighting our men as they were aided by colluding security operatives".

AC Attah relayed that the operation remained a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against illegal Mining across the federation.

"This marks a major milestone in our relentless battle to sanitize the mining sector and we will remain steadfast in our mission to dismantle and arrest illegal mining cabals as we assure the public that perpetrators would be brought to justice,” Attah stated.

"Currently, the illegal mining site has been sealed and a manhunt launched against the fleeing suspects; Investigation is ongoing to unravel those behind the heinous crime; we would also prosecute any security operative caught aiding and abetting illicit mining activities".

Troops Launch Operation Munzo, Neutralize Terror Kingpin Mati, Several Fighters And Recover Weapons in Zamfara

The Troops under the Headquarters Operation Forest Yakin (HQOPFY) have commenced “Operation Munzo,” a special clearance operation targeting terrorist camps in Zamfara State.

Zagazola Makama gathered from intelligence sources that the operation kicked off from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bagega in Anka Local Government Area, with troops advancing through Tibuki and Sabuwar Tunga villages to the notorious Mati terrorist camps.

The sources said heavy resistance was encountered as the terrorists engaged the advancing troops with light and support weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades. However, the troops responded with superior firepower, neutralising scores of the insurgents in the process.

Intercepts suggest that the terror kingpin known as Mati, believed to be the mastermind of several attacks in the area, was killed along with several of his fighters during the fierce exchange.

A soldier attached to the Special Boat Service (SBS) sustained a gunshot wound to the lower rib and has since been stabilised and evacuated for treatment.

Items recovered from the scene include one PKT rifle with two belts and 90 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, and 12 magazines containing 487 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Also recovered were three Baofeng radios with chargers, military and police uniforms, and other combat gear. Three motorcycles belonging to the terrorists were destroyed on site, while rustled cattle found at the camp were also eliminated.

All terrorist life-support structures in the Mati camp were completely burnt and destroyed during the operation. However, two tyres of a combat support vehicle were damaged, and another vehicle sustained a broken lower arm.

In a separate movement, logistics vehicles advancing from FOB Bagega to FOB Dan Gulbi at about 9:15 a.m. came under ambush near a bridge. The troops promptly repelled the attack.

While casualty figures on the side of the attackers remain unconfirmed, one soldier sustained injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.

“Operation Munzo” is expected to continue in the coming days as troops intensify efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves across Zamfara’s forested zones.

I’m just happy to see Dodondawa IV in action.
Quick question though, are police personnels also involved in the internal security operations of Nigeria like are they Operating under theatre operations like the Operation Hadin Kai Operation Hadarin Daji and the likes. If yes, what is the average strength of the police contingent for each theatre operation.

Yes; the NPF are involved in various theatres operations in the N.E, N.E & N.W operations. The Operation Hadin Kai, Hardin Daji and the rest etc.

But not the regular police personnel, MOPOLS and special squares of the Force are the ones majorly involved.

U.S. Diverts Armoured Vehicles Meant for Niger to Côte d’Ivoire, Benin

The United States government has officially handed over a batch of 12 armoured vehicles to the Armed Forces of Côte d’Ivoire as part of a broader military support package originally intended for Niger.

According to security sources, the total of 36 armoured vehicles were diverted to Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Ghana following the suspension of military cooperation between the United States and Niger in the aftermath of the July 2023 coup d’état.

The vehicles were handed over in a brief ceremony held on April 10, 2025, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to strengthening security ties with democratic and stable partners in the West African region.

The redirected military support is seen as a direct consequence of Niger’s diplomatic and strategic isolation under the ruling junta. Analysts say the populist stance of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) and its strained relations with international partners have contributed to the country’s growing security challenges.

In the nearly 20 months since the military takeover, armed terrorist groups have expanded their control, with some now administering entire territories within Niger.

Meanwhile, the United States continues to reaffirm its support to countries demonstrating democratic governance and regional stability, with Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Ghana emerging as key security partners in the Gulf of Guinea and Sahel regions.

Also the Army HQ intends to acquire units of CSK131 Dongfeng Mengshi light armored vehicles and CS/VP3 mine-resistant vehicles.

Additional Procurement of BMR-3 mine-clearing vehicle, indicating an emphasis on improving counter-IED and route clearance abilities. From these procuments one can tell that the N.A is upgrading its capabilities in Aerial/aviation role and Counter I.E.D roles

I do hope the Dongfeng Mengshi CSK131 order is a local order to be fulfilled by EPAIL. There’s no reason to buy it from China again when it can be locally produced. I also noticed the order for the Camel MRAP which is NA’s nickname for the CS/VP-3 Bigfoot. I was hoping the Army would use the locally made Dodondawa IV to complement the Bigfoot MRAPs that are already in the Army’s inventory rather than procure more from outside.

I totally agree with your opinion here but the only problem we have locally is producing large quantity on time. Meeting defence needs promptly is very important.
