You're very, very, very wrong!
Infact, you are example of illiterate based on your definition!

psucc:
Illiteratecy simply means being a novice on a particular matter, or something.

Not necessarily being unlettered

Once you know the meaning of literare as being able to read abd write, you are able to know the meaning of the opposite word which is illiterate.

No
Ignorance or neophyte will be more appropriate to describe that situation

An illiterate is someone who can't read our write

That's the meaning in the simplest form

So I came across this new show called Jeez Millionaire Show on TikTok, and it instantly caught my attention. In one episode, a lady was asked the question: "What is the actual meaning of illiterate?"

In Nigeria, we throw that word around a lot often incorrectly. I used to think my mom was an illiterate, but after watching that clip and reading the proper definition, I realized she actually isn’t.

Funny enough, the lady on the show got the ₦500,000 question wrong and honestly, I probably would’ve too. The options were kind of tricky.

Watch the short video below and let us know what you think!

It’s the inability to read and write. It wasn’t about English. Many people can’t write nor read at all
Go learn reading and comprehension, you just repeated what I typed.

You brought English into it and it has nothing to do with language. You stated what was unnecessary

So what does a literate person read and write in?
I guess it's not a language, it's your reasoning.

Any body that have gone through school and still Voted for Tinubu is a bloody illiterate

just kidding grin

The current definition of illiterate is archaic.

This is 2025 where children of 6 years can read and write.

Now, Illiteracy is the inability to learn, unlearn and relearn.
I don't think it is an ability o. It is a state. If it is an ability thing then one is entering the realms of being "challenged", or "handicapped"

The correct answer is B. I knew that sometime in 2022 during a training I attended.

It's the same thing when people think the word "Learned" is only for lawyers while many don't even know it's real meaning they take whatever they are being told.
Spot on!

Some Portuguese, Lebanese and Dutch that have lived in Nigeria can speak Yoruba but not necessarily English.
You can learn to speak any Nigerian language by immersion, but to learn to Read or write any of them, you will need to go to School where your education will begin with English or French

Illiteracy means unlettered! Every other meaning you attach to it is just an extension or stretching the coverage of the definition

Re: Quick Test: Are You Sure You Can Answer This ₦‎500,000 Question? by Fantazy(m): 3:12pm On Apr 07, 2025
I would have gotten the answer right! There are many people who don’t have formal education but they can read and write. Do you call them “illiterates”? NO!
So, illiteracy is when a person cannot read and write at all
