do everything possible to plant it ASAP. Make sure the hole is deep when you want to plant. IT WILL BE TOO LATE THOUGH!

Unless you know how to handle BW, which most here don't know how to, you're basically throwing your money away doing Gamhar in Open field.

Gamhar rz f1 has a strong resistance to fusarium and verticilium wilt
Is bacterial wilt any different
Re: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by Lanjonath(m): 3:35pm On Apr 23, 2025
Very very different. Bacterial Wilt when checking for resistance is represented by the "BW/Rs" abbreviation which Fusarium Wilt is usually "F / Fol" and Verticillium Wilt "V/Va". Even the Seedforth Agro guys will tell you is has zero resistance to Bacterial Wilt if you ask.

If you plant in open field here in the SW without knowing how to handle that, I can guarantee that you'll easily lose 50% or more depending on the level of infestation in your soil.

That said, Gamhar and Jarrah are my favorite tomato cultivars.

You can try Platinum or Rambo if you're a newbie. They have solid resistance and good yield. But if you know how to handle BW and have good management and nutrition, gamhar and jarrah will double their yield.

Get a resistant variety or graft with a resistant rootstock.

I would be happy to know if I can get a good production from those resistant varieties
Getting a good yield is what got me into this Seedforth and rz shit

When it comes to yield, Garmah and Jarrah are head and shoulders above the rest and it's not even close but like I said, you need it be able to handle BW to do RZ tomatoes.

In terms of yield I'll take Rambo over Platinum and Platinum over Padma. I've never planted Cobra. And yes Padma is resistant to BW

Thank you for the reply
Pls what's the average yield per Rambo f1 plants and where can I get the seeds in abeokuta
Also is it worth doing gamhar on the open field even if I can manage it
Re: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by Lanjonath(m): 1:07pm On May 01, 2025
If you can handle Gamhar, its the best. As for Rambo, if you're good you can get 2kg per plant.
Sorry, I dont know where you can get in Abeokuta but you can definitely check online for that.

1. Biological method. This involves the use of beneficial microorganisms to control/prevent disease in your farm. You can get them online under diff trademarks. I learnt this from emmaachile.

2.chemical method.
a. Treating your soil with copper based fungicide can also suppress BW
b. Treating your soil with velum prime.

3. Conventional method.
a. Raising your soil pH by applying agricultural lime can suppress their activity
b. Adding organic matters to your soil can also minimize their effects.
c. Prevent waterlogging/flooding by creating avenue for free flow of erosion during rainfall. Sometimes, I deliberately cut my ridges in area proned to waterlogging for water to waka pass .

Grafting with a resistant rootstock that's the only sure way to grant you 99% success anything else and you're playing with fire (speaking from experience). Other methods (Copper, Biological, Ph) you can try with cultivars that have some level of resistance but with RZ seeds that have zero resistance, if you aren't grafting, you're basically playing Russian Roulette with your investment.

To graft, you need to know how to get the right rootstock and the technical know-how to graft.
