IyfeNamikaze:Clubs and restaurants are out of it. Ibadan has those in abundance. Let's talk beautiful sites...what are the top three sites you would recommend to a visitor? |

Lagos- A big no. Without the infrastructures built from Federal purse when it served as a federal capital, the town is undoubtedly an overrated slum. Bustling economic activity but a fourth world city. Port Harcourt - Hell no. I can't coexist with cultists and pot bellied clowns who cannot do without venerating one man who is causing trouble in their state and is even warming up to export political instability to Bayelsa. Their elites no get sense. Ibadan- Too archaic for my liking and lot of poverty there too. Enugu - I know little about the place but going by the antecedents of all South eastern leaders who are the worst set of political leaders in all the geopolitical zone, (always facing their stomach only and the former governors are already licking Balablu's balls) I doubt if I could anchor there. Uyo - Most likely of all, I may berth here in future. Only problem I have is that the people don't know how much of their resources the past and present governments of the state have stolen from. That state is supposed to be the richest in Nigeria given by what it brings into the national purse but the leaders are scammers. They built a stadium and an airline and get the people to cheer them endlessly while the human development index is at the lowest ebb. A state that have received trillions in Naira since 2007 have just a few good paved streets and the people are very poor. Apart from Victor Attah, subsequent governors of that state should be serving long jail terms. |

SmartyPants:Do you want to start with the Oil Companies and the multiple effects of their presence? Do you want to talk about the sophistication of entertainment options, namely the pedigree of restaurants and hotels? Do you want to talk about the international mix of people dwelling there, especially the significant expatriate community? And nowadays do you want to talk about the infrastructure, from roads, bridges to air and sea port? Ibadan is an old town and was always the largest in West Africa for a long time but truth is much of it is very unsightly, you have to admit. Part of the problem is you haven't been to PH. If you had, you will recognize that other than Lagos and Abuja it is the next most significant city in Nigeria. In many ways. Aside from being a petroleum hub, it is also a centre of significant national politics. |

0bjpmb:Hmmm just trying to let you know gently that you and your family cannot afford to buy a good house in enugu which costs in the region of 500 million And you most likely cannot afford to rent a self contained one room apartment in enugu city which cost around 300k to 500k A plate of food is 2500 This is what life is here and you will never be able to afford it because the people built it and not the federal government like in Lagos Nobody uses brown roof here but some parts are not well planned that is what you see as slum All the so called slums you mentioned in enugu have changed. Some have exclusive estates of duplexes while others have beautiful blocks of flats Nowhere will you find any shity slum like Ajegunle Lagos Oh and there is always light |

SmartyPants:It's not about having clubs and restaurants in abundance, it's the quality that matters . Ibadan doesn't have anything close to the level of Asia town, The Red Coral, Native Tray or even Spice Route. As for sites, there is the Ifoko beach, Tourist beach and Bonny Island beach. Then there is the Garden city Amusement park, pleasure park, there's also the Polo club where you can go hang out in a picnic while watching horses galloping up and down the lush green. There's also the Zoo, the colorful Mile 1 street market. PH is a cool place to visit, better than Ibadan |

JuanDeDios:I know Oshogbo, I've been there, spent a week before going back. There's nothing there. The food is wack, not the nite life nor the vibe. Oshogbo is a town, not a city and the town doesn't have much attraction to it. |

DeepSight:We should define the terms of reference clearly: the thread is about places where the average person can live well but you seem to be conflating this with cities that are nationally relevant. These are two parallel lines. In fact, it is arguable that the more relevant a city is in terms of national affairs, the less pleasant it will be to live there. Now looking at the points you made, I don't see solid arguments: 1. Entertainment: What are the sophistication of entertainment options? What exactly is on offer? Don't forget that Ibadan is an hour to Lagos so if you feel the entertainment on offer is not sophisticated enough, you can sprint into Lagos for the luxuries that no other city in Nigeria quite has. Port Harcourt can't beat that. But again, you haven't mentioned what exactly is on offer that's so special. 2. Infrastructure: Ibadan has very good roads. It doesn't need bridges nor a Seaport, because Lagos. But again, how does a seaport make life better for the average person? Ibadan does have an Airport but this is not even really relevant because, again, Lagos. 3. Large parts of Ibadan are unsightly, but Ibadan is at least three times the size of Port Harcourt: the sightly part of Ibadan is almost as large as Port Harcourt itself. So the unsightly part of Ibadan can't stop anyone from living a great life here. Like I said, if you don't want to, you'll never have a reason to step foot in those places. 4. When you say international mix of people living there, how does that make it a better place for the average Nigeria to live there? In fact, clearly the effect will be to make the city pricier. So if we stick to the research question, you haven't shown how Port Harcourt is better. Add to this the fact that Ibadan is much cheaper to live in and much safer both in terms of crime and environmental pollution, I don't see how you can make a case for Port Harcourt here. Finally, again, whatever you want that you can't find in Ibadan, you will find an hour away in Lagos. |

Aba and Onitsha should top the list because whatever commercial activities you intend to do in Lagos exists there at almost same capacity. What they lack is proximal seaport of which Warri and Port Harcourt can easily do the job. |

DeepSight:First let's talk about Size and population. A town is typically smaller than a city when it comes to population and size, it's population normally ranges from a few hundred to may be a thousands. But a City is Larger, with a population that is usually higher than tens of thousands to a million+ Cities also are more urbanized than towns, and also more developed with a greater emphasis on modernization and progress. Also when it comes to infrastructure, towns tends to have a more basic infrastructure like smaller roads, very few public services and limited amenities, whereas cities have a more developed infrastructure including schools , hospitals, Larger roads and intricate road networks, public transport and a wider range of amenities like malls and shopping centers. With this, in the case of Akwa ibom, Uyo is a City, Eket or ikot abasi may be considered as towns. In the case of Enugu, it's town would be Nsukka while Enugu city is a City. |
