Should Christians Command Fire From Heaven To Destroy Their Enemies As Elijah Did? The tendency of Christians and leaders of the church trying to call down fire from heaven to destroy their enemies didn't start today. It had long been an issue even with those who walked with Jesus during His ministry days on earth, as proven by this particular instance in the Bible: Luke 9:54 (KJV) And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But this was Jesus response to their question: Luke 9:55-56 (KJV) But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. Hence Jesus addressed the question once and for all. Jesus rebuked His disciples for even thinking such a thing, how much more if they'd already done it? Therefore this strong rebuke of Jesus also applies to every Christian and church leaders of this day, who were always trying to call down fire from heaven or Holy Ghost fire to destroy their human enemies as Elijah did. Jesus is also hereby saying to every one of you, "you don't know the manner of spirit that you are of", because the spirit behind that "die by fire" mindset is not of God, but of the devil who comes not but to steal, kill and destroy men's lives. John 10:10 Jesus didn't come to destroy men's lives but to save them. God bless. |

It's important to note that the people who asked Jesus this very question were 2 of His foremost and closest disciples, yet they didn't see anything wrong in calling down fire from heaven to consume their enemies as prophet Elijah did on that occasion. The same thing Peter, who later became the leader of the early church, once cut off the ear of one of those who came to arrest Jesus, so we can clearly see that even the leaders of the early church and apostles of Christ also had such vengeful and destructive impulses for their human enemies being humans themselves, because these were the 3 pillars of the early church. However after Jesus rebuked them concerning their errors, they took correction and repented of that antichrist mindset. That's why this same people were observed to have never on any occasion, used any weapon to fight their enemy or cut off any part of their bodies, or even call down fire from heaven to destroy their enemies in their prayers afterwards, despite all the persecution, arrests, they suffered in the hands of their enemies even to the point of death. That's what distinguishes the early Christians and church leaders from those of today, It's not that they have such antichrist inclinations, but that they're not willing to take correction from Jesus even when it's glaring they're going contrary to His teachings and example. They'd still be proudly and passionately praying for fire, thunder and brimstone to come down from heaven and consume their human enemies regardless. Hence they've proven themselves to be false Christians, because it's only false Christians that only hear but do not follow or take corrections from Christ's teaching and example. The true Christians are those who do not only hear but follow and take correction from Christ's teaching and example, as the early Christians and church leaders, who selflessly left their own old destructive and antichrist inclinations behind, to follow that of Christ, which is about saving men's lives not to destroy them. God bless. |

What all those many hardened and unrepentant "die by fire" Christians and church leaders don't seem to realize, is that, Jesus had all the power to crush every single one of His human enemies. Just one single Word and the whole earth could be burned to the ground. Moreover if any man ever had the moral right to condemn and destroy his enemies, it was still Jesus because He was without sin, hence the condemnation of sin wasn't upon Him as it was every other human being that ever lived. However despite having so much power plus the moral right to destroy all His human enemies, He never used His power to hurt anyone. Instead He was using it to heal, deliver and save lives. Even while on the cross, He could have prayed for all His enemies to die and God will instantly grant His request, but instead He chose to pray to God to forgive His enemies even while they were putting Him to death. That wasn't a sign of weakness and foolishness as the ignorant "die by fire" Christians think, but a display of unprecedented strength and wisdom, as this was the same Man that went to hell and took back the keys to the death and life from the devil, therefore knew very well where exactly to channel all His power, not waste it destroying the same lives of those He came to save. Hence why Jesus was the greatest Master of spiritual warfare to ever live despite never using His power to kill or hurt any human being, because that's the highest order of spiritual warfare, using His power to destroy the works of the devil to the max, healing the sick, curing the lepers, delivering the demon-possessed, raising the dead, saving sinners etc. Not praying for human enemies to "die! die! die by fire!" as the spiritually blind always do. That's why He expect nothing less from His followers because that's the only way they can also become real masters of spiritual warfare. Using the power Jesus gave them to also destroy the works of the devil instead of men's lives. God bless. |

I remember an out of body experience a believer had with the Lord Jesus Christ.... And The Lord told him, "If I pour out Fire on everyone's enemies, who will remain on earth"? The Fire of the holy ghost should rather be used to destroy the works of the Devil and his agents... However if a human agent of the devil refuses to repent and keeps tormenting a child of God, then such an agent shall die by Fire of the Holy ghost |

There's a church speaker facing me.... The pastor/owner of the church is a woman... Every prayer point is after enemies. There's never a time she prays for love or talk about love.... but enemies. Christianity looks for enemy when they're the enemy themselves. |

Sentiments aside some enemies deserve more than fire and brimstone |

Why command fire from heaven when you can just use petrol and matches to do it? ![]() |
| Re: Should Christians Command Fire From Heaven To Destroy Their Enemies? by MaxInDHouse(m): 7:13am On Apr 09, 2025 |
Gabrielshow24:You are not a Christian in anyway. Look at the commentator above he makes sense much more than you even though he doesn't believe in the Bible he said if you need fire to burn something all you should do is get petrol and a lighter but you disguised atheist want to see what the Bible said happened back then before you can believe it actually occurred. So in what way are you a believer if you don't know that God's servants perform miracles on needs not for display? ![]() |
| Re: Should Christians Command Fire From Heaven To Destroy Their Enemies? by Gabrielshow24: 9:36am On Apr 09, 2025 |
MaxInDHouse:Not entirely true, some miracles were performed with the intent to show the power of God! Which also satisfies a need, not withstanding! Except you draw a boundary, both can be construed together. Jesus displayed the power of God to satisfy the needs of men! Probably your church leaders didn't let you see from that perspective! |

MaxInDHouse:In what way, did I insinuate a disbelief 🤨? Those with IQ understood my entire theme but a Starfish such as yourself is drawing straws from it. Your straws can serve any purpose, they will only expose you for the failure you have become! No one disputes that you can't employ physical methods to do stuff, but whose glory would that be! If everyday... sees a fire burning from fuel will he in anyway attribute it to a divine power—let alone God! Maybe, you should build a time machine, go back in time and tell both God and Elijah to use gasoline to solve their problems! Clearly, a kindergarten should be able to see the wisdom at play, along with the initiative of God to reprove himself before the Israelites! As usual, always talking off point! If you don't have anything useful to say, kindly go read, study and finally engage your brain! |

MaxInDHouse:All the comments don't make sense. Elijah did not need matches and petrol to ignite fire in mount Carmel or in the killing of prophets of Baal. |

Gabrielshow24:The highlighted in blue is FALSE Jesus only performs miracles among the Jews to buttress the fact that what God promised them is here: Christ That's why John the baptist never performed a single sign because the signs are to make them know that the Christ is around! Matthew 11:4-6 |

MightySparrow:Elijah wanted the people to know there is no Baal in the presence of Jehovah. But if it's to call down fire from the heavens Ṣàngó or Ṣànpọ̀nná worshipers can still do that here in Yorùbá land. So what's the essence of calling down fire if other gods can do the same? ![]() |

MaxInDHouse:What aspect of "sentiments aside" ? Don't you understand? 🤨 Does the question suggest that there are no christians around? You keep beating around the bush, claiming this, claiming that; when my statement, itself, is self explanatory. It's an objective view that aims to cast a slight shadow or comparison with ancient "christians"🤔—for accuracy sake "servants of God", most notably Elijah! It doesn't demean or simplify Jesus' admonishment to us regarding 'saving of men's lives and ultimately, Love! Surely, to further make my point, if it were to be you in the place of Moses, the Israelites would have drowned! |

MaxInDHouse:Soponna worshippers will call soponna while jehovah worshippers will call Jehovah. When Goliath cursed David in the name of his gods, David response was in the name of his God. That is even not the issue. Is it right for any Christians to kill people by fire or thunder? Personally I, though pentecostal, do not pray such prayer. |
