All these are nonesense. The government should hands off completely and remove their hands from the sector.

Until when you do,all these wont do a thing. You are just beating around the bush and nothing else

Period!
I laugh when I see people comparing energy sector with telecommunication sector think that full privatisation and deregulation of energy sector would produce the same results in telecommunication sector.
Energy sector (Power and oil and gas) is not like telecommunication sector.
No offence sir. You probably have little or no knowledge about the structures of energy sector

Nigeria has been battling and grappling with stable power from time immemorial because of lack of transparency and endemic corruption in power sector.

for an emerging economy like Nigeria, fully privatization of the nations electricity posses a high security risk for the country
It makes the already fragile country susceptible to national security and critical Infrastructure vulnerabilities among other critical risks like that
Hybrid privatization like the one we are currently using is a good option but yet the government and the private sector needs to implement a realistic and meaningful plan

They didn't fully privatize NEPA. It was only the distribution arm that was privatized(Discos). The generation arm wasn't. Whyhuh That's a question for another day
You are wrong.
It was only transmission (TCN) that wasn't privatized and it was dues to national security reasons

What exactly is the actual reflective cost?

Do you really think it's complete stupid and ignorant people that fills up this country called Nigeria?

How expensive is electricity or do you want to compare it with what is being paid in USA?

The unbundling of the telecom industry, to whose interest is it ?

The profits MTN has made alone in Nigeria given our pathetic corrupt system from it's inception, can it be compared to the profits made in South Africa and else where they are in operation.....you can do your analysis city by city, town to town, metropolitan area to metropolitan area and so forth...

Very good question.. Well if you think about it closely you will see that with power comes the ability to produce (control of factors of production), with increased production comes reduced imports ... Gueess who wouldnt like thathuh
AfahaAbia:
Why is it that it's only in Nigeria that stable power is rocket sciencehuh It's seriously shocking to me!!! Or is it a deliberate tactic to keep the country backwards

No be today I have been calling for government to hands off the power sector. Nobody will complain if you are getting value for what you are paying for.

But you cannot be giving me darkness and telling me to pay exhorbitant fees.

Sorry it doesnt work that way.

Did the.government not hands off telecommunications? Is it not working? Did someone not say telephone isnt for the poor?
Isnt it now for everybody?

Having power should be basic right for the average Nigerian. Countries wey no reach us don solve their power problem, but here it is still a very very big deal yet we keep on bringing excuses
Who's asking you to pay for darkness? Don't you have prepaid meters?

The other time you were complaining and shouting condemning the introduction of Band A, how then do you want govt to charge a cost reflective price? Criticism is cheap.

You got it wrong.

Nobody is against increase in our productivity as a nation. The challenge, from my experience is CORRUPTION.

Hmm okay. Thanks for the correction. But I find it mind boggling that we still can't fix our power problem in this 21st century

Don't comment on what you don't know. The distribution and the generation arms of the former NEPA were privatized. Some private Gencos today includes: Geregu power, owned by Adeleke, Davido's father. There is also Transcorp power owned by Tony Elumelu. Others are Egbin power, Shiroro power and so on.
Okay thanks for the correction. But why do we still have epileptic power even after privatisationhuh Why couldn't the Government do it the way Nitel was done
Re: National Grid: FG Splits TCN As NISO Begins Operations by Kaptainemeka(m): 7:15am On Apr 09, 2025
You are thinking small.. I am not talking about your countrymen being saboteurs, i am talking about the foreigners who control your leaders that's why i mentioned "imports".. The west control the factors of production for a reason even though you got the raw materials.. Ever wondered why?

This is why I have a lot of respect for former president Olusegun Obasanjo. When I learned about the way Obasanjo eliminated incapable hands from the telecom sector and handed GSM license to very capable investors you can but respect him for a sincere service to the nation.
Nepa privatisation is done in paddy paddy way.No single foreign investor. Its all politicians.

Of course. Any bad situation that cannot be fixed is a sure sign that a cabal is feeding fat on the status quo! NEPA can never be fixed in this life!

Won't we complain of price hike when private players take full charge ? It will purely be business.

Bro, most Nigerians won't be able to afford electricity if it is fully privatized. The problem is that Most Nigerians don't have strong purchasing powers as a result of inflated economy. People can no longer afford the basic things of life due to bad governments. Hence, NEPA is partially privatized unlike Nitel. The Discos and Gencos are doing their parts very well, but the government still retains 100% ownership of the transmission company of Nigeria (TCN) which is in charge of transmitting the power generated by the Gencos. And that is where the problem is. The govt also controls regulation and pricing because if NEPA is fully privatized, common citizens won't be able to afford electricity. Other smaller countries with stable electricity pay higher than Nigeria if you do the currency conversion. The government had to still be in the picture paying subsidy and controlling pricing so as to be fair to the citizens.

Wrong, if people are getting constant power they will accept the higher bills. This is 2025 and we need to be following global best practices. Govt's role should be limited to regulation
