Re: Natasha Akpoti Vs Akpabio, Wike Vs Fubara: See UNILAG MSc Exam Questions by 10thTenthMan:
The responses here really show how unenlightened NIGERIAN YOUTHS ARE. Applied exam questions offer Real-World Relevance; Critical Thinking Development; Integration of Knowledge; Engagement and Motivation; Preparation for Advanced Learning; Confidence Building; etc.

The collection of mainly Nigerian Youths on Nairaland who think that the questions are ''foolish'' and wondering ''what a set of questions to ask'' is really alarming. And it provides an important insight into the level of ignorance that is rife today. Personally, I want to believe it is because these Nairaland Nigerian Youths are:

a. Afraid of (and have been afraid of) applied questions that will make them think and apply theories, concepts and principles that they have been taught to real life issues and solve real life instances and situations they may find themselves in future. The average Nigerian Youth is afraid of anything in long text form. They see the letters and words and phrases and sentences and paragraphs and they freeze. It is worse with the ladies. Care not taken they could have a fit, keel over and die!

b. Totally ignorant and unenlightened that such questions prepare you better for the real world and professional practice of your discipline. People who are highly uninformed about academia, did not do well in school either, do not understand principles and methods of didactics, etc. yet want to criticize the appropriateness of applied examination questions.

Social media has really made it that people think less and less. They react and respond. They jump in, to type first and post first and quick to insult and verbally berate. Of course, this is because social media and online rants and insults detach people from immediate and exacting consequences.

I find nothing wrong with the questions. They are related to and also apply to the realities and peculiarities of today's Nigeria. Applied exam questions are fundamental for equipping students with the necessary tools to navigate their future careers effectively. They not only enhance learning outcomes but also prepare students for real-world challenges they will face after graduation.

Painment because UNILAG denied you admission due to your low score. Smh.

If you want to merit admission in UNILAG, quit this lazy life on social media, study very hard and earn complete O'level at a single sitting with straight As, score very high in JAMB and Post UTME. That will cure you of this your painment. Shikena.

The good news for you is that it's never too late to join others wink
Leave those bad beles. I miss that school though.

Do you know the worst part of this test question? The lecturers did not teach it. In fact, they don't even know the answer and are merely waiting for the students to help them.

Chai!! See finishing @ tick-tock and Instagram twerking. grin grin But this issue u raised is an interesting topic and it's not peculiar to Mass Comm alone. 98% of courses in our schools holds nothing for the students after graduation. Na teaching jobs get almost all of them. Even engineering graduates they private schools they teach physics, mathematics etc. It can never get this bad.

The responses her show how unelngihtened NIGERIAN ARE
Beautifully set questions and some people are condemning it.
Nigerians can't think so they'd rather prefer to answer dem "What is" "Define this" questions.

Majority of Nigerians are very unenlightened. They don't even know the in depth of what goes on in the country.

A Mass Communication master's student that doesn't know how to answer these questions should drop out of school, cos what else is he/she going to be doing in the Mass Media space after graduation

Not necessarily.
This is practical application of current affairs to what students have been learning in the classroom. It is very possible to answer this questions without giving personal opinion.

This is how questions should be curated. Education takes place in more than the 4 walls of a classroom.

This is critical thinking questions.
Lectures don't have to teach everything.
You as a student is supposed to apply what they teach to every other aspects of life.
Critical Thinking also needs to be taught. Examples of such questions should have been demonstrated during lectures. None of these ever happens.

There was this question we were asked in final year. The lecturer taught us the simple solution to this question (at most 6 lines). I didn't even know there was a "long form" solution to this question until the very morning of the exam. I happened to come across an old handout from a coursemate that morning, where the long form solution was written in. This long form solution (at least 20 lines) was not in the lecturer's official textbook which they made us buy.

Something prodded me to read and understand that very long form solution that very morning of our exams. Exams starts, guess question number 3 demanding the long form solution. A solution that was not even in his textbook and that was also when handouts were banned in our school.

the lecturers will teach you 30%, you as a student should learn the remaining 70% from your textbooks, study discussions and revisions of questions. That's how to gain knowledge.

If students of nowadays are thinking like you, expecting lecturers to be spoonfeeding adults, then no wonder JAMB,WAEC and NECO scores are thrash co.pared to 15 years ago

If they fail, they are meant to be in primary school where they will cram and pour not in postgraduate school.
Go and read about BLOOM TAXONOMY OF LEARNING.

Post graduate students are expected to be able to apply theoretical concepts on real life, critic and appraise existing knowledge they learnt in graduate level and synthesize new knowledge from research. That is the aim of post graduate education!

that 30% is all they know.

We came to the University for the lecturers to teach us all they know, and not for us to keep resorting to self help.
