The key word is resource dependency, which is kind of the same issue tinubu has, and why he is not a good leader.

Nigeria has been badly run since independence. Our economy has been based on selling raw materials and sharing the money. That was started by Awo, and continued by every leader.

The simple reason is we should have not kept doing that for long. But getting to industries is long, and it includes unpopular things like taxation, paying for power at high prices, market prices, and paying for petrol at high prices.

You Know abacha kept fuel at N5....that created part of our debt issues. If not for the debt forgieveness of 2006, it would still be on our neck.

Resource deppendency also has one problem. We do not control the price of oil. We need oil at 130 per barrel before we can talk. If tinubu sets the price at 135 per barrel, no one will buy. Same thing with Ghana. GHana relies on cocoa. Ghana increased price of its cocoa by 40 dollars per ton. Immediately buyers went elsehwere, and government revenues fell...and ghana had reduce prices again.

The problem with you Nigerians, no offence, is that you tend to have heroes. The problem with most of your hero leaders is at the end of the day, they do the same economic things, and the naira keeps falling, and so forth.

Its a good decision, since most people speak Hausa, and French is not widely spoken.

No Nigeria cannot do that (we already have jokes who think Hausa is an Islamic language. I wonder what they would say about FUlfude, which sounds so different from Hausa and any language, and is rife with pagan allusions...lol).

If we chose Hausa, people will shout, if we chose Igbo, people will cry, if we chose Yoruba, people will yell.

The problem with most African countries is that unless you are an empire like Ethopia, where Amharic became the letter of administration and law, because that's kind of what empires do(unless you have conquered the chinese, and they will have you speaking their language in two generations...lol...seethe Manchus. Ruling elite of China, lost their langiuage in 2 generations.).....the only good enough lingo for everyone is the colonizer's tongue.

At least Niger is lucky that most people speak Hausa. Tanzania chose Swahilli, which actually started out as a patois for arabs and africans trading to speak to each other....it never was an indigenous language, they got lucky that most people speak it. MOst African countries are not lucky.

Remember when South Africa tried to make Afrikkans the language for everyone to speak? Yeah it ended in tears.

Good move!!

But having English and French as working language should be temporary. There's no country in Europe where an African language is an official language.

The ultimate goal should be to get rid of both French and English from your country. The way to do that is by using Hausa to learn in school, write in Hausa, speak in offices in Hausa.

This doesn't stop the learning of French and English just like every other subject in school.

He should have announced a phased approach like China did by first removing English as a compulsory language before lowering its proficiency for university admissions and jobs then replacing literally works in English with Chinese versions.
