The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has unveiled a range of locally developed innovations—including hybrid vehicles, laptops, solar-powered water dispensers, and other cutting-edge technologies—calling on Nigerians to support homegrown products and solutions.

The unveiling took place on Friday during a Strategic Focus Group Meeting on Made in Nigeria Products, held in Sokoto. The presentation was led by Mr. Sale Adamu Kwaru, a consultant with the agency.

Mr. Adamu-Kwaru highlighted that the showcased hybrid vehicle was developed in collaboration with a Chinese firm, using locally sourced materials and combining electric and fuel-powered technologies. He noted that the partnership includes a technology transfer component, with plans for Nigerian companies to eventually assume full production responsibilities.

He urged Nigerians—especially corporate organizations—to collaborate with NASENI in promoting innovation and embracing the “Made in Nigeria” movement.

“The participants in this initiative were selected based on their entrepreneurial experience and involvement in productive sectors,” Adamu-Kwaru explained.

NASENI’s Sokoto Coordinator, Mr. Muhammad Ndaman, described the event as a milestone in the promotion of homegrown solutions capable of transforming lives and stimulating the national economy.

“These innovations are not just about products; they represent a bold step toward economic independence, job creation, and sustainable development,” said Ndaman.

Among the innovations unveiled were solar-powered irrigation systems to enhance agriculture and food security, lithium batteries, home solar energy units, energy-efficient street lighting, and animal feed milling machines.

“Every Made in Nigeria product adopted is a step toward a stronger, more self-reliant nation,” Ndaman stressed.

He added that NASENI is committed to advancing eco-friendly mobility solutions and reducing dependency on fossil fuels—demonstrating Nigeria’s capability to produce globally competitive electronics and engineering products.

Ndaman also emphasized the importance of quality assurance, innovation, and strong market linkages to ensure Nigerian products thrive locally and internationally.

In her remarks, the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry (BOI), Hajiya Habiba Sambawa, encouraged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the N75 billion loan facility, which allows businesses to access up to N5 million in funding.

She called on stakeholders, financial institutions, manufacturers, and exporters to collaborate in unlocking Nigeria’s export potential and supporting local industries.

Entrepreneur Alhaji Ahmed Tambari, who also spoke at the event, advocated for reforms in the loan system to better accommodate small businesses and boost productivity. He emphasized Sokoto’s untapped business potential and encouraged youth to adopt innovative, modern business practices.

The Sokoto State Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Alhaji Jamilu Abdullahi, commended NASENI for its support to farmers and agro-processors. He lauded the initiative as a testament to the shared commitment to boosting Nigeria’s global trade presence through locally manufactured, internationally competitive goods.
