A Nairalander, Dougad, wrote this on my post and I agree with him because I had personally researched the two men myself.

About a year ago, I took my time to research on the two men (Awolowo and Azikiwe) and even though I’m Igbo, I couldn’t help but accept that Awolowo was smarter and more intelligent than Azikiwe.

Awolowo was trained in UK while Azikiwe was American trained.

I read their speeches and saw Awolowo’s visions were clear and lucid. But I found out he was an idealist. Azikiwe, influenced by American culture, was a pragmatist. Providing realistic solution to what is instead of grumbling about what ought to be.

But like you summed up, between the two of them, Azikiwe’s heart was purer.

Awolowo damaged Nigeria forever.

Among the three ardent fighters for Nigeria's independence in the '50s, Awo was indisputably the smartest. There is no room for contention in that regard as every student of Nigerian history will attest to its veracity. What, however, cannot be circumvented is the fact that Awo, as brilliant as he was, spearheaded the fibre of the contemporary unbridled tribalism that has become so intricately woven in every fabric of the Nigerian society, be it religion, politics, or even business.

His deliberate misrepresentation of the Western Premiership election as an ethnic battle rather than a clash of political ideals, where the contestant with the best ideal-constituent fit wins betrayed his highly coveted western education, portraying him as a man not at all dissimilar to thugs-turned-politicians ever so ready to fight dirty to achieve a political goal. His nefarious strategy worked so well that decades down the line, the average Nigerian still fails at placing policy as the highest priority when casting their vote. Our so-called founding fathers were blessed to occupy the unique position of steering the path of a soon-to-be Independent country to greatness, eschewing the backward tenets of tribalism that left them the biggest failures in the globe, but ultimately chose the sinister path that leads to doom like their fathers before them. Awo, being the smartest, surprised me even more by adorning a XXL clown costume.

Perhaps his failures to achieve his lofty political goals, evidenced by his constant adulation of George Washington and Winston Churchill, was a karmic response to the active role he played in ensuring that the future of his countrymen centuries down the line amounted to nothing.

When Yorubas try to be conservative in our region, the Easterners will call us tribalist while guiding theirs jealousy. Ibo can never change since the days of Zik

The covetous nature of Nnamdi Azikiwe made him supplant and remove Mr Ita Eyo in 1953 as premier in the Eastern region and then installed himself as premier in 1954-1959.
In 1959,Azikiwe installed his puppet Michael Okpara as premier of Eastern region of Nigeria and then travelled to WESTERN REGION and tried to covetously install himself as premier of Western Nigeria through his NCNC because they won majority seats in the parliament.

The sage chief Awolowo understanding the serpentine nature of the typical Ibo man and also understanding the domination and subjugation agenda of the Ibo supremacist Azikiwe quickly outwitted him by appealing to the Yoruba members of the NCNC to abandon Azikiwe and cross carpet from NCNC into the Action Group (AG) on the floor of the parliament thus giving the AG the majority in the WESTERN Region parliament and automatically making Chief Awolowo the Premiership.

It is not today the covetous nature of the Ibos began. Azikiwe has always coveted Lagos and Western Nigeria masked under his fraudulent and false pan Africa agenda.
Be not fooled. The agenda of all Ibo is greed,covetousness and ultimate domination of other people's lands.

Awolowo did a good job of preserving the Unity and cultural identity of Yoruba land. It is left for those he left behind to continue to defend the values and cultural identity of true omoluabi's and prevent these marauders from tainting one inch of the land.


The greedy Azikiwe quickly removed the Calabar man Eyo Ita as premier of the Eastern Region installed his puppet fellow Ibo Okpara as premier of the East and then proceeded to try and become Premier in Western Nigeria. Which true blooded Yoruba man would allow that? What you cannot allow in your region with a Calabar man you are now trying to practice in Western Region?

Regarding your last paragraph, why are the Borno people not settling down in any part of South East same way the Igbo's have been settling down almost everywhere.

I believe people mostly migrate to where there are more better opportunities. Are there no opportunities in South East hence people are not interested in coming while the indigenes are deserting the region enmass

Your analogy does not hold water here.

In Azikiwe Vs Awolowo case, they didn’t choose. They went through an electioneering campaign, sold their manifesto to the electorates; and by the end of the election, Western Region voted for Azikiwe’s NCNC in majority.

How was that Azikiwe’s choosing?

Or do you have record that Azikiwe rigged that election?
