"PROFESSIONS IN NIGERIA THAT END IN POVERTY — AND HOW TO ESCAPE BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE" |

Yes only Nigeria these professions are likely to make you poor Because Nigerian authorities made it so. Mind you almost all the entire professions/career field are like that! Including the ones you didn't mention. U want to know what's lucrative now and paying? Looting, diversion of public funds, embezzlement of organisation funds. The official pay minus the shady side deals cannot feed the workers any longer! |

TONYE001:Many Doctors that didn't Japa or end up as medical consultants end up as Middleclass citizens if not poor. Only few Doctors that stayed back in Nigeria become financially buoyant working fully as Medical Doctors, this is the reality many Nigerians don't know about Doctors |

franchasng:Not necessarily true...in fact, the "many" in your statement makes it not true. Money dey private practice. Plus, there are MANY options available to doctors at home....not necessarily to make money, but to solve problems...and make money along the way. |

Civil Servants is an exception. A lot of Civil Servants are thieves the are richer than you think or imagine. Infact there is an undisclosed fact that Civil Servants seconds politicians in riches in Abuja. Contractors literally work for them now. |

Rubbish post. Most of those professionals will feed you and fund what ever business you are doing. Rotimi Williams is a farmer, worth billions from his rice farms. A senator from Bauchi resigned to continue his farm business where he pockets over 500 million yearly from export of his farm produce. Come to the North and see farmers better than all these useless online digital creators shit. |

One thing is in today's Nigeria, it's not advisable to rely or focus on one source of income. At thus digital age, endeavor to make and earn in foreign currency. You don't need to lie or scam anyone to achieve this and I will give you a tip. You can buy an expired domain name for $10 and resell above $500. I do it for a living and you can check this awareness thread for free information;https://www.nairaland.com/4519087/how-rich-selling-expired-domain Below is a proof of one of my recent sales. Stop complaining, dyversify.

I wish our undergraduates and fresh graduates can take this thread seriously. This is the kind of expose that can only be borne from years of research or experience. The OP nailed it perfectly! Generally speaking, doing salary work in Nigeria (whether in the public or private sector) without side hustle is a recipe for poverty. My uncle (a lecturer in a renowned university) once showed me his pay slip and I wept silently for him. He was the one that first advised me to never ever rely solely on salary job if I don't want to suffer in this country. ![]() |

Olachase:As a mechanical engineer who didn't practice I'm regretting till date, if you don't have connect try to come out with a very good grade ( first class ). It will give you an upper edge multinational company. Anything below 2.1 forget it except you have connect. Except you study civil engineer where you can do a private practice, or electrical engineer where you can do some courses. Just have it at the back of your mind to be successful you have to learn cut corners. This is a guy who came from Christian home, who believe everything was done by merit until my eyes were opened. |

TimiRume:No one of my friends got a job by merit; it was one uncle and relations that could be of help. That is called "lobby". Even so-called Christian folks who come give their testimony in church, press some buttons; they come to church and act like it is all miracles. I'm a realistic person, we are all deceiving ourselves. The characteristics people have as a Christian are they go to church, they can sing and pray, but when it comes to life decisions that will test their faith, they fail every time. I have had dealings with so-called Christian folks and I conclude they are the worst people to work with because 1. They always want to win all the time. 2. They are stingy, they have 100 reasons to back it up. 3. They are greedy. |
