An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has warned that there will be huge consequences if Nigeria continues to neglect the South-East zone.


Igbokwe disclosed this in a statement through his Facebook account on Saturday.

His comments come amid controversies that had trailed appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.


Recall that a senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, tackled Tinubu’s administration, saying that his lopsided appointments could boomerang.

However, according to the presidency, appointment under Tinubu’s administration is based on merit.

Reacting, Igbokwe said, “If Nigeria continues to treat the South-east as if the zone does not exist or does not matter, the consequences will be huge. The civil war has ended, but the scars are still there. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Neglect of SE is bad.”

Igbos should leverage on their capabilities and capacities to turn the east into the R and D capital of Africa. We did it during the civil war when ogbunigwe was manufactured and other weapons, today we are still in Nigeria, we can research, develop and manufacture other things.

It is only when you guys are sidelined from the loot in the name of government appointment that most of you start to talk like human beings. If Tinubu had appointed you as Ambassador to DR Congo or Sudan or Yemen, you wouldn't have ever opened that your useless mouth to say this truth, ewu ohia, anumanu, ezi ohia, you better go back to helping them clean dirty gutters

Igbos must rise with ruthless intent and transform the East into the undisputed Research and Development capital of Africa. We proved our genius under fire—during the civil war, we engineered the legendary Ogbunigwe and other war machines, using sheer will, brainpower, and scarcity as fuel. What excuse do we have now, in so-called peace?

We are still in Nigeria, but Nigeria cannot contain us.
If we could build weapons in the bush, we can damn well build industries in cities. It's time every high-turnover Igbo business—whether in tech, pharmaceuticals, engineering, or manufacturing—sets up R& headquarters in the East. No more excuses.

Let’s pull back our smartest minds. Let’s train them, empower them, and put them to work building products that fuel our own region—not Lagos, not Abuja, but the East. This isn’t charity; it’s survival.
No more capital flight. No more brain drain. No more waiting for a country that only knows how to marginalize.

Nigeria cannot defeat the East. Not in war. Not in development. Not in anything—if we stop holding ourselves back.
Build in the East. Hire from the East. Innovate for the East.
And let the world come to us.
