About 3 years ago, you dare not stop on airport road to make a phone call. You will be surrounded and taken to Lugbe police station by market. In the police station your tyres would be deflated and only upon payment of whatever you were billed would you be allowed to negotiate with the standby vulcaniser on how much you would pay before your tyres would be inflated.

I have had to make sure to keep clear of the various spots where these extortionary measures are in place.
Abuja has a dark underbelly.

VIO and Road Safety in 2024 constituted a major pain in the neck of abuja motorists. I hear they extorted a lawyer of 300k not knowing the man was recording them.
It's upon receiving the lawyer's petition that Wike clamped down on them.
For someone like me who insists on having every paper intact, it's difficult to wrap my head around a young man in an ugly uniform telling you that no matter how many documents you have, no car can pass their inspection. Are you a devil?
