Oyo State Governor, 'Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding the state’s economy through tourism, as he officially commissioned the Kunle Afolayan Productions (KAP) Film Village and Resort in Igbojaye. The governor described the project as a significant milestone, aligning perfectly with Oyo’s strategic focus on tourism as a driver of economic development.

Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde emphasized that tourism remains a cornerstone of his government’s economic strategy, integrated into the Roadmap for Sustainable Development of Oyo State, 2023-2027. He highlighted that the KAP Film Village positions Igbojaye on the global tourism map and demonstrates the tangible results of the state’s tourism-focused policies.

In his address, the governor disclosed ongoing plans to upgrade the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, into an international airport, with wide-bodied aircraft expected to land before the end of 2025. This infrastructural enhancement is set to boost tourism and business connectivity within Oyo and across Nigeria.

Governor Makinde congratulated Kunle Afolayan on the completion of the Film Village, pledging government support for its growth. He announced immediate plans to rehabilitate the Okaka-Igbojaye Road, provide a solar mini-grid, and establish a dedicated electricity line from Okaka to the facility to ensure stable power supply.

He further encouraged both Nigerian and international investors to explore business opportunities in Oyo State, noting its strategic proximity to Lagos and enhanced regional connectivity. Makinde revealed additional security and tourism infrastructure projects, including new airstrips in Otu and Igbeti, aimed at facilitating swift travel and promoting tourism attractions in the state’s hinterlands.

The governor was accompanied by key state officials, including the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun; Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade; and Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal, among others.

Governor Makinde reiterated his administration’s dedication to creating an enabling environment for businesses, tourism, and creative industry investments to thrive in Oyo State.
