What Does Nairaland Need Right Now? by Seun(mod):
Hello Guys,

I'm throwing this question to you because it's very important. Every time I ask, "how is Nairaland?" I'm told that it is fine. If I ask what are the challenges I'm told there are none.

So I need to talk to you guys directly about what you think is going on and what you want us to do. I have not had the confidence to make major changes on Nairaland. I have a little confidence now because of AI.

What are your complaints, your challenges, your issues. What are the things that can drive people away and need to be nipped?

Speak your mind, but don't be rude. Thanks.

Lots of things bruh...

Functional APP.

Strict on cyber-bullies

Strict on tribalists/ethnic profiling

Dislike button

More enlightening hot topics (skill-wise) as it were back in the days before the sudden tsunami on your Database breach.

NL should start competing with other contemporary SM platforms like Twitter.

Easy to navigate ad space/breakdown of procedure

Let me seize this opportunity to appreciate you for this platform, it has been an awesome platform to me (think am addicted to it). Way back 2010 as a 200L student. It has imparted me beyond tertiary education.
Thanks Seun.

Nairaland needs a facelift, main the structure but make it more modern and attractive, improve the CSS styles and thats it.

This is poorly worded boss. Just ask the question without admitting losing interest. That's like Zuckerberg admitting he's lost interest in Facebook. Shalom.

The moderators need to stop pushing nonsense topics to the front page, secondly have gory images blurred especially on threads related to something bad like an accident or involving casualties as it's quite insensitive to view such.
Re: What Does Nairaland Need Right Now? by Nobody:
Personally, I feel a portrait of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) should be included on the front page.

Justification for such is that, never a time in history has the country had a leader who supports and welcomes social media criticism. Also, being same time the best we had since independence, it will be a great honor to have his portrait on the front page.
Re: What Does Nairaland Need Right Now? by festacman(m):
Come on Seun, making this statement is shocking and disappointing: "I have lost touch with Nairaland and I don't really know what's going on here." I don't think Elon Musk would say that of Twitter.

The fact is that Nairaland is a cashcow that would always generate much more than it needs to maintain it. But, unfortunately, you don't seem to see it like that because of, may be, other business ideas.

My key recommendation is that you manage Nairaland closely like a going concern it is. Once, you do this, ideas for improvement like the original conceptualization of Nairaland will crystallize in your creative mind. It is your baby. Growing it should be intentional on your part rather than ONLY in reaction to critics.

Peace!

Oga Seun , that Creed you activated for Muslims On Fridays, activate it for Christians on Sunday too.

Don't be Biased.... Let There Be Equity....

God Wey Create Rain To Fall On The Good And Evil People At Same Time Is a God Of Equity...

I See No Reason Why We Christians Here Cannot Get Our Creed. Or Better Still, Scrap The Creed On Friday.

God is the greatest! Now and forever may he reign! God has blessed me and answered my prayers! May I live so long to sing his praises forever and ever. Amen

block button, to dismiss trolls and tribalists at will. So many jobless trolls on nairaland.

delete button to remove contents that the user mistakenly posted online.

responsive support staffs to address issues related to Nairaland. To be honest, i wonder why u are not getting constant litigation concerning posts here.

employ people after making them go through a mental evaluation and bias scan... this one is important because it addresses the issue of tribalism and hate speech here, a mod that is sane and not partisan would use moral discretion to handle cases without seeing race or party.

You can also consider having an app. I can do this for you for free... no payment whatsoever.

As someone who has been on Nairaland for 16 years , here are my requests

1. We need a dislike button. It’s long overdue

2. DM option should be embedded directly on the site without the need to do this via exposing my email compulsorily . This is 2025 we really do need this feature on the site

3. Allow direct uploading of videos albeit with a size restriction if you’re bothered about storage.

4. Can we have night mode feature please.

5. We need personalized feeds, where I can customize what I want to see

Those are all I can think about for now.

You are asking as if you are ready to fix it!

Just get serious about cleansing this forum.

Nairaland has been reduced to the battlefield of tribalists.

Clean it up!!!

1- Some of your mods are banning without telling you the rules broken or just because you spoke against their opinion
2- Some mods are good at pushing false news to front page just because they don't like certain politicians, even after pressing rules 8 the news will not be taking down
3- some monikers don't have anything to do here , rather than trolling and calling a nairalander with different names and your mods are not doing anything about it

Block button because I am sick and tired of seeing bots spamming every thread with insults. These bots are working for the ruling party and they derail every thread that talks about the pain experienced by the masses. The block button will enable users to stop seeing post and mentions from these bots

You need to change your moderators especially the politics section, they are not doing a good job

Lastly, you need to spend more time here or employ a competent manager. Nairaland keeps deteriorating each day due to poor management. Sometimes we see less than 1000 registered user online which is very poor fit this kind of forum

Seun, pls start rewarding people for quality original content on Nairaland. You'd see a rise in meaningful engagement and Nairaland's brand.

At the same time don't give any incentive for tribalistic topics. Then see how people will gain sense naturally.
