Hello Guys,

I'm throwing this question to you because it's very important. Every time I ask, "how is Nairaland?" I'm told that it is fine. If I ask what are the challenges I'm told there are none.

So I need to talk to you guys directly about what you think is going on and what you want us to do. I have not had the confidence to make major changes on Nairaland. I have a little confidence now because of AI.

What are your complaints, your challenges, your issues. What are the things that can drive people away and need to be nipped?

Speak your mind, but don't be rude. Thanks.
1. Naira land needs to get rid of bots and AI generated likes.
2. The modes need total overhauling. Most of them are very tribalistic.
3. The unwarranted ban ochestrated by one of the modes on me should be lifted, yes. You can't expect me to rub you cream when people are gaslighting my revered Igbo ethnicity. So if them gaslight I give them double portion and there is nothing bad in that.
4. Nairaland should not be partisan and so remove ethnic and political sentiment and stand with the reality. To this effect indicate threads that are sponsored. I understand that you are in business so indicating sponsored thread will make you differentiate your opinion from from the work of political jobbers.
5. Educational section should be alive again. It has been a long time I read the nairaland debate.
6. Topics that make it to the front page should be worth it. Another reason why the modes should be overhauled so that more competent people would take over.

7. Islam is not superior to any other religion and so does not deserve unwarranted creed you added on islamic topics. So remove it or you add it too for us Christians. We can't have Moslems spewing trash on Christian topics.

Almost all big bloggers in Nigeria started from Nairaland but you refused to follow the trend and improve along.

1: Allow people to own their own blogs and mini e-commerce shops inside Nairaland while you charge them N1k pet month. 2500 blogs or commerce at N1k per month is N2.5million. Anyone that ones to run commerce should deposite N200K with you before starting and no one should buy goods more than N100K from a seller. This to solve the problem of payment on delivery in Nigeria that many small seller are passing through today in Nigeria. People can now pay confidently before delivery.
If their blog is reported for fraud with prove you delete or ban the blog or shop.

2: Create escrow section for bloggers or people that wants to buy digital assets
online and employ staffs to manage it.

3: Make the site so people can inbox people inside the site and socialise. By these few innovations you can improve nairand.

4: All these your emoji and quoting style is becoming old school. Improve on it.

5: The front page news section, you hire reporters. Everything must not be copy and paste.

Personally, I feel a portrait of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) should be included on the front page.

Justification for such is that, never a time in history has the country had a leader who supports and welcomes social media criticism. Also, being same time the best we had since independence, it will be a great honor to have his portrait on the front page.
Get tinubus portrait use it to replace that of your parents, see it and wear it and can make your bedsheet with it. No body would give a bleed about it but not on nairaland.

You need to improve on your advertising more. Advert should be region or state targeted so businesses can engage with customers just like Facebook is doing.

Secondly, introduce a reward base program for top contributors, like earning stars, tokens (nairaland coin), revenue sharing e.t.c infact I think nairaland should have its coin by now like Telegram.

Nairaland needs a lot like dislike button, getting rid of tribal banter, moving good topics to FP ASAP and most especially NL needs you

Seun, pls start rewarding people for quality original content on Nairaland. You'd see a rise in meaningful engagement and Nairaland's brand.

At the same time don't give any incentive for tribalistic topics. Then see how people will gain sense naturally.
Especially on selected national issues that are trending.

This will give a Sense of belongings and inclusivity to members.

It can be done quarterly.

In my opinion, these are what this platform needs:

1. More active moderators across all the sections to clamp down on trolls. These mods will also ban people whose comments were maliciously drafted to incite religious or ethnic arguments

2. The female gender has suffered alot of backlash on this platform. We are faulted and deagged for even issues that the truth is as clear as day. Little wonder why women hardly comment here.bthose of us who still do thread with caution. Please make this place a safe haven for all genders.

3. The caveat attached to posting comments on Islamic threads would only be fair if same is accorded the Christian threads. I want to believe that this platform if for everyone and so special privileges should not be lopsided.

4. We need the like, dislike and delete buttons for comments. The delete button should be enabled only for the owners of the thread.

5. Your mods need to be more active. The other time, i mailed them over a scammer here and not even an acknowledgement from them. What then is their job? If its majorly to move comments to the front page, you should consider deploying a software that would use certain keywords and traffic to move comments to the front page. Same can work for banning users.

Thank you!

As someone who has been on Nairaland for 16 years , here are my requests

1. We need a dislike button. It’s long overdue

2. DM option should be embedded directly on the site without the need to do this via exposing my email compulsorily . This is 2025 we really do need this feature on the site

3. Allow direct uploading of videos albeit with a size restriction if you’re bothered about storage.

4. Can we have night mode feature please.

5. We need personalized feeds, where I can customize what I want to see

Those are all I can think about for now.
Fully in support as someone who has been here a long time also

First, the UI/UX must be redesigned—mobile-first, clean, responsive, with a modern feel that still retains the community spirit. Content discovery should be smarter: AI-driven recommendations, personalized feeds, user dashboards, and thread subscriptions. We need advanced AI moderation to combat trolls, hate speech, and spam, plus better community tools like shadow banning and clearer guidelines. A dedicated mobile app is overdue, with offline mode and push notifications. Most importantly, AI must be embedded into the platform itself. Imagine summoning an AI assistant in any thread by typing `@AI`—to summarize long discussions, translate posts, fact-check claims, mediate arguments, or provide context to complex topics. There should also be a dedicated media feed where users can upload and engage with videos, music, and pictures. And just like on YouTube or other social platforms, users should be able to earn a share of the ad revenue generated from their content. This would transform Nairaland into not just a forum, but a full-fledged creator ecosystem. Add in multilingual support, global topic sections, and smart analytics, and Nairaland could become Africa’s digital brain—vibrant, competitive, and future-ready.
And don't forget to add night mode.

We see nairaland has a well defined approach to place "banners-kind" of advertisement but the same cannot be said for artists' music videos or content creators who wish to promote/advertize their works. Reaching out to admin don't help either, as they are not responsive from our experience. Any plan to make this better and more explicit for potential customers?
Thank you.

why did you limit the number of photos one can share directly here. In this world of social media, you can only post four photos daily. It's actually very bad.

Next,we need a block button since I am forced to see tribalistic contents. I will need to block such people and that will naturally reduce their numbers because the less people see their content and interact with them, the faster they are motivated to keep showing up.

Messages need to be sent directly here without the concept of exchanging emails. It's really easy to do now.

Build a functional app and let it have push notifications like others so we can engage with topics we're interested faster.

I don't think there's need for dislike button. If you don't like a subject, let it be and don't engage with it.

Employ people on standby who will search for topics for each section and post at least three interesting topics daily. We live in a fast paced world and as such, things happen really fast also
