What has changed is the cost of living and may be your sources of funding. But your SEVIS ID does not change on the new I-20. This is the most important piece of information. Do not reschedule your appointment, go with the old and new I-20 issued to you. Explain your circumstances to the VO that an updated I-20 was just issued to you. Your DS-160 has your SEVIS ID ...you should be fine. dade6270: |

welf99:Hallo welf99. You may be right with your suggestion but I have not seen anyone around me attended F1 visa with previously issued I 20. That apart let's look at the question together : Now i got an email from the school about a change in living expenses calculation, meaning that i need to have a new i-20 issued (after i prove that i can cover the new cost of living), but i have already booked an appointment using the old i-20 which i got in august 2024. NOTE : He cannot get a new I 20 without proving that he would be able to cover the new cost of living . So i am wondering if i can attend my interview first using the old i-20, and then get an updated one after the interview NOTE : He asked if he can attend the interview first with the old I -20 (by outsmarting the school) because he doesn't have the new I-20 yet. So can he go ahead and attend the interview with only the old form I 20 ? He doesn't have any new one yet . Thank you for your input. |

Hello! you will need to update your I-20 first , just try and upload a new bank statement to the school first after which you need to fill a new ds-160 form and then attach it to the new i-20 and open a support ticket on the avits portal and then it should be update by the embassy in the shortest time. I hope this helps? Efetobore1980: |

A response "I am obtaining an MBA to improve my leadership, strategic thinking, and business management abilities. I have a background in Bleep and valuable experience name your present role and work in Bleep. I require formal training in finance, operations, marketing, and global business strategy to advance to senior leadership or entrepreneurial positions. An MBA will help me close that gap, broaden my professional network, and return to my home country better prepared to run and build firms. Eromo30: |

Hello everyone, I just got admitted for fully funded PhD in social work. My interview is next month. I currently work with an NGO, but my plan is to return back and take up a lecturing position at my undergraduate university. Is this okay? Some people are advising me to lie. That I want to take up unrealist higher role at my place of work. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Efetobore1980(m): 3:45pm On Apr 14, 2025 |
Godfreyalfred44:Hello Godfrey. You work with an NGO is your natural profile so you do not have to lie. The only thing that will amaze the consular a bit is that you will return back to your Alma mater to take a lecturing job. If this your plan is genuine the consular might want to see the employment bond between you and your Alma mater. Coming back to take work position is the most common reasons graduate applicants tell the consular but the genuine ones among them will be verified. Ciao. |

Efetobore1980:I plan to apply for the lecturing role upon my return. My NGO doesn't have a higher position for someone with a PhD. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Efetobore1980(m): 4:04pm On Apr 14, 2025 |
Godfreyalfred44:Okay this is my input : You plan to appy for lecturing position in your area of study ( expound it a bit) in my Alma mater or any federal or state University in Nigeria. NOTE: Broaden your job search to the consular. If you mention only your undergraduate University the consular might ask you what if your application for employment is not granted ? Or the consular might ask you : Do you have any evidence of your employment certainty from your Alma mater. NOTE: PhD visa applicants should also elaborate on the love for education, teaching & research. Coming back to take job is actually not necessary . |

For you to get a fully funded PhD in Social Work, such a level of research work and intellectual contribution to American society is needed. The VO knows you are not going to return after your studies. So, your option is to explore the post-completion OPT after your study. This allows you to contribute your extraordinary ability in social work to the United States and have first-hand experience. Godfreyalfred44: |

Godfreyalfred44:Hold unto your truth on how you intend to take a position in your undergraduate university and talk about how your education will make that possible in addition to building new connections/peers you can research/collaborate with at a global level. |

Good morning everyone please I need help with this, I generated my DS-160 code so I can use it to apply for visa and book an appointment, now I went back to the DS-160 after inputting my DS code and security question, it keeps saying I should enter another two security questions I wasn’t even asked. Any help on how to go about it. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Efetobore1980(m): 6:06am On Apr 15, 2025 |
ChiomaCharity:Morning Chioma. You have forgotten (or someone started it on your behalf) those other two security questions because the computer cannot lie except if there is a system glitch. Restart your computer and input the retrieval info again but if the issue persist you have to start another ds-160 entirely. NOTE. The US embassy recommends that you complete your ds-160 entirely and do the final submission before you go back to AVITS for appointment booking. Not following this rule may cause appointment delay. AVITS: For your error on AVITS , chose a post means you should pick Lagos or Abuja and you have to pick one before you will be able to continue. If the chose a post is not bringing any option then you have to restart your computer or change browser and re-login again. After login click on pending appointment and it will take you back to chose a post . If the chose a post is still showing blank then you have to cancel your present appointment and start a new one afresh. Good LucK. |
Morning Chioma. Thank you, I didn’t forget, actually I did not even filled those details immediately I got the code I just closed the site, I thought i could come back and fill it, what can I do in this situation, do I create another DS-160 since I didn’t fill out any information before. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Efetobore1980(m): 6:16am On Apr 15, 2025 |

Yes . Start another one afresh (and note down your security/retrieval questions). Lol 😊 no wonder ! Whenever you want to exit ds-160 page you have to save (look downward to see save) it before you exit the page. Then whenever you return you will use your retrieval information (first 5 letters of surname , year of birth and any other personal question chosen) to access where you stopped . |

Has anyone who got their visa approved since March 24th till date, (for F-1 visa (Fall 2025)) gotten the “Passport is ready” message?. CEAC has been on “refused” (processing) for a number of Fall 2025 students. Anyone experiencing similar? |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Jayjayyy: 11:50am On Apr 15, 2025 |
Or has anyone here had this experience where after visa approval there’s a delay of more than two weeks in receiving the “passport is ready message”? Responses/experiences from past visa approved folks would be greatly appreciated. |

glorious23:I chatted with several of the AVITS support and they said that so far I was not getting duplicate account or user error message, but several applicants IDs, then I can go ahead and pay the visa fee. They said the applicant IDs appeared like that because I cancelled my application and started again. |

Hi all, Can someone walk me through the application process? I was transferred from the old portal so I have my information pre-filled on the AVITS portal. I already have a visa date. What do i do after that? I have heard about booking OIS passport pickup. do i do this before my appointment or after? Thanks. |
