A little back story.

Due to some ugly circumstances, i dropped out of school in 2019 and I've been at home since then, periodically picking up one or two low paying jobs. 2 years ago, I decided to learning a tech skill. I taught myself C++ programming language and I'm currently teaching myself mathematics aggressively, studying for min of 8 hours daily.

For the past two years, I've mostly always been in my room, I can be in our house for more than two weeks, without stepping a foot out of our door due to how engrossed in studying I always am. My goal is to learn C++, DSA , And Math to an undergraduate level then use my skills to apply for scholarships to study abroad, and probably work in a hedge fund company as a quantitative trader in the future. For those who know what leetcode is, i can currently solve most leetcode (hard) problems in less than 40 minutes.

Now, I'll be 24 in August, and my dad is worried that I'm wasting my life away because I've refused to pickup any real job or learn a trade, his worried that I'm already getting old, always reminding me that people my age are already getting married. Now he wants me to leave his house to go look for my own place to stay, and has offered me 7 million naira to go start life else where.

Now I plan to move out of Lagos to PH or Akwa Ibom, then use part of the money to start up a computer business center, where I'll be doing typing, printing, lamination, jamb registration, GCE/WAEC registrations, etc. One of the reasons I chose this is because I've worked in a place like this before and I have experience in how to run such a place. Another reason is that, this business would give me time to also study and sharpen my Math/Programming skills. I plan to rent a shop that is big enough so that I can also be sleeping/living there.

Now I seriously need advicing because this is such a turning point in my life and the next few years is going to make or break me because there is no room for any disastrous bad decision cry
As tempting as that money may seem don’t take it, instead tell him about the bolded, your goals and the effort you’ve been making, IMO, I feel the best thing is to appeal to him to be patient until you secured a job from what you’re currently putting effort into, if you move out, it’ll be premature and too many unnecessary distractions and unanticipated expenses and pressure may set you back, but it’s your choice to make just before then make sure he’s aware of your progress, if he insists then move out. Don’t just move out before putting that out there.

It's good your plans.

But tell your dad you would like to continue your education, and that you would still need his support. After you have set up, you must go to start or complete your tertiary education. You need it.

That money seems huge to you, but it’s not.

If you’ve had about 5-6 years of crypto trading experience , trust me, you won’t need any other advise. I know what I’m saying.

But let it be the last thing you should ever do if you have no experience at all. Else, you’ll watch all your money go before your very eyes in a minute. And you will regret ever reading this post.

Trust in your plans and be positive about it. It’s your life. Good luck.

Don't open any computer business centre. Don't even dare.
Put the whole seven million in stanbic money market funds and be getting like 100k every month.

Move to ph or any other city of your choice and start life from scratch like a nobody, while sustaining yourself with the 100k.

Do real odd jobs, squat with someone, attempt to stand on your feet without tampering with the 7million.

The aim is to expose yourself to the harsh reality of the outside world, learn to survive on small funds, know more people and gather enough real life experience that you'll need to make any headway in business.

While at it.You'll meet and work with people in different businesses, and get first hand information. Then you carefully choose the business you think aligns with you.

As a starter, avoid every business that the bulk of the startup cost goes into buying equipment and renting shop. It's usually difficult to break even early enough.
Choose a business that costs below a million to start, and that doesn't necessary require a shop or lots of equipment.

If crypto is your thing. A lot can happen for you if you trade wisely.

It sounds like you're at a crossroads, and the decisions you make now will significantly impact your future. Here are some thoughts to consider:

- Your goals are ambitious: Learning C++, DSA, and math to an undergraduate level is impressive, and your LeetCode skills are a testament to your dedication. Pursuing a career in quantitative trading is a challenging but potentially rewarding path.
- Your business plan is practical: Starting a computer business center can provide a steady income stream and flexibility to continue studying. Your experience in running such a business is a plus.
- Location considerations: Moving to PH or Akwa Ibom might offer a lower cost of living, but consider factors like infrastructure, market demand, and access to resources (e.g., internet, libraries) that can support your business and studies.
- Financial planning: With 7 million naira, you'll need to budget carefully for:
- Renting a shop
- Equipment and supplies
- Living expenses
- Potential emergencies
- Time management: Balancing business responsibilities with studying will require discipline. Ensure you allocate sufficient time for both pursuits.
- Family dynamics: While your dad's concerns are understandable, it's essential to communicate your goals and plans with him. You might consider discussing how your business and studies align with your long-term objectives.

Some advice:

- Create a detailed business plan: Outline your financial projections, marketing strategies, and operational logistics.
- Set realistic goals and milestones: Break down your objectives into achievable targets, both for your business and studies.
- Prioritize your time: Allocate specific times for studying, business operations, and relaxation to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
- Stay focused and adaptable: Be prepared to adjust your plans as circumstances change, but remain committed to your goals.

By carefully planning and executing your strategy, you can set yourself up for success and create a fulfilling life.

Are Computer Business still a thing in this age and time? More so, why move far away from home? You can try to find a job that isn't too stressful and give you time to study.

Since you want to be a Quantitative Trader and you can study well, I will suggest looking into ACCA as a mature student in the mean time. That way, you can earn an accounting degree alongside a professional certification in three years.

Lastly, you can ask if he can allow you fix the money while you figure things out.

Good advise Crypto is very volatile, 7 million can vanish easily.

The only stable part in Crypto is air drop, and staking.

Try to offer your skills online to traders seeking a Quantitative Analyst? This will test your skills and might even give you access to the scholarships you’re hoping to get while providing you with USD income in Nigeria.

N7m is not a lot of money and I don’t even advise you to start a business with it. Just lock it up on something safe like USD fund until you fully know what you want in life. Starting life with N7m without recurrent income will lead you back to your dad when the money is exhausted. I made my first million at 21 and lost it all at 24. Started afresh and doing well now so I know you’re at an age where you know a lot but at the same time don’t know enough.

I think this is good advise, not crypto, very unstable, and volatile, only miners, stakers and airdrop are stable, future trading and spot trading needs a lot of know how especially latest news on happening in global politics and trades, sentiments and utility.

Let me start by saying congratulations already, your plan is good! Come to Abuja, but before coming apply for jobs crazily, then once you reach Abuja go to ITF office tell them you want to learn web programming this is so you can get connection, be jovial tell everyone you meet that you're looking for job, once you get a job. Build your own hedge fund money manager site, get clients get funding the sky is ur starting point.

Deciding to drop out was a bad move, try and get a degree even if it is from NOUN, you will need it, quant roles really value degree and skill, you can't be lacking in either one, unless you're an outlier in skill, and if you are, age, race and geography is also against you, so try to get a degree man, wish you the best.
