When offering help, don't be fixated on being thanked or otherwise. Let love in doing something good be a sacrificial thing.
Stop promoting ingratitude.
There's nobody who doesn't like being properly appreciated.
Even God wants us to give Him thanks...
Even our parents would be pissed when we don't show appreciation.
It's not about expecting anything in return but about having an attitude of being grateful.

Mr Layi the law. My man

I sent a guy money around middle of last year he was complaining of his generator not working, and I sent him money to repair his gen, buy fuel, subscribe internet and have something extra. Annoyingly, this guy didn't even ask me directly, he said he wanted to go and carry generator somewhere which I asked him what would the person be using again. I was like instead of inconveniency others, make I assist voluntarily .

Less than 24 hours, my guy was telling me he has exhausted the money that I should assist with more. I just simply told him I sent the last money in my account to him

100k in less than 24 hours when no be say na so I dey see money

I have discovered that you just have to decide that you'd be a good person in his life whether you're appreciated or not.

Let me share my experience.

There's this guy who's a graduate teaching in one primary school where he was being payed 20k per month in the village. His mum is a friend to my wife.

We just thought about the woman and the son and my wife suggested we try to help. So we asked him to come to Lagos.

He lived with us for 7 months before we got him a job with one of the big 4 by God's grace. After 5 months he moved out closer to their office.

Now this guy doesn't bother to say Hi when we meet in church. He just throws away his face and avoids us.

Not that anyone expects a worship if they have been good to you but please show that you appreciate their sacrifice.

Please stop this sense of entitlement.

You lose nothing by acknowledging those who have been good to you.

Even God expects that you say "Thank you" when he blesses you.
An elderly man, a sexton in my Church in a Cantonment collapsed in a bathroom. He stays in the church.
I came around and learnt he was hospitalized...blood shortage and many other ish.
He doesn't really do much work. They just placed him on salary and gave him accommodation based on the benevolence of one of our former Vicars.

He even pooped on himself. An assistant Vicar cleaned him up. Some other civilian staffs helped take him to the hospital. I came around and learnt he needed urgent blood donation. I'm a donor. I donated 2 pints to him.
The Vicar/Church paid his bills and fed him.
He lived a useless life in his younger days birthing children with multiple women and being unable to train any to the university.
He was practically abandoned.

Baba came back from the hospital and all he did was grumbling till today. No thank you to anybody.

Grumbling and complaining. Keeping malice. I don't know what he wanted us to do differently ooo.

The Church is already talking about settling him with some amount of money and getting full time younger sextons.

One man shared a chat with someone he gave

receipt with just "T". When he asked, the
recipient told him T is for thanks.

Is thanks not good enough, what else do they want. I don't even like to be thanked. Just acknowledged that you have received it. The thanks won't bring the money back or multiply what I have left

This is the ideal standard bro. But we are humans, and we mostly look forward to appreciation in any form. Gratefulness beautifies our character as humans.

God Almighty himself wants to receive thanks for the bounties he gives us, not to talk of
a mere human. Notice that a lot of the commenters where not explicitly expecting praise, but the show ungratefulness still hurts them somehow.

If someone is thankful to God and the people, he'll regularly receive more. But if you're the ungrateful type, even on the your deathbed, many would never want to help you again.

This is very painful. I wouldn't be surprised if the same person starts spreading tales about you and your family.

These days, you'll hardly help people with out regretting it almost instantly. For those telling others not to expect as much as a simple thanks are just being unrealistic.

I made this very mistake the first week of this year. The idiot couldn't even confirm the transaction. Even if someone is dying, I'll never make the mistake of lending them beyond what I can give them without expecting a repay, never.
Anyone that needs money should download OKash or any of the lending app. That way, they'll appreciate when you lend them interest-free loan.

I gifted one guy in my hood my second phone after he lost his phone. Till today he did not even say thanks. What really pained me most was that few days later, my own sister asked for the same phone but I'd already given it out to this guy. He used that phone for almost 2 years before he bought a new one but there was never a time he thanked me for the gesture.
