Any scriptural backing? Whether it is scriptural or not, the best thing is to commit your ways into the Lord and he shall direct your path. |

God2man2again:The first marriage ever was match made when God introduced Eve to Adam {Genesis 2:22} later Adam's children got married to one another but when men began to multiply on the earth shapes and sizes became determining factor so they started marrying from other families but after the flood something happened that will scare you! Aliens from outer space came to the earth as men and began having sex with female humans that's how fornication was introduced to the human family had the humans stick to matchmaking styles none of those aliens could get a female to mate with but they were to charming to resist and the ladies back then refused to follow the old traditions of matchmaking so the aliens had their way with them. Genesis 6:1-5 Life continued after the flood but by then matchmaking has become oldstyles that's why most people began marrying without the approval of their parents {Genesis 26:34-35; 27:45} but faithful people stick to the old tradition of matchmaking! Genesis 24:2-4 Throughout the life of ancient Israelites faithful servants of God were warned never to marry outside Israel so no matter what they see in any woman they must not form marriage alliance with a none Israelite! Deuteronomy 7:3-4 After Christianity has been established a Christian can marry from any tribe on this planet but such a person must be a Christian. 1Corinthans 7:39 Well there are different religions today with contradicting teachings and conflicting doctrines all claiming Christians that's why matchmaking can't stop in the midst of TRUE Christians we only marry within our organization. So to answer your question: MATCHMAKING is scriptural as light and darkness can't be yoked together! 2Corinthians 6:14 |

The shift from early matchmaking to modern marriage choices really shows how marriage customs evolved through biblical times. But I think we need to be careful about that Genesis 6 interpretation - most biblical scholars see those "sons of God" as referring to either fallen angels or the godly line of Seth, not extraterrestrial aliens. The principle you're highlighting about being "equally yoked" is super important. It's not about being exclusive or judgmental, but about sharing core values and beliefs with your life partner. This wisdom has been backed up by modern relationship research - couples who share fundamental beliefs tend to have stronger marriages. You know what's really interesting? The way ancient Jewish matchmaking (shidduch) focused on compatibility in values and character, not just attraction. This actually lines up with what we know works in modern marriages too! Just remember - while it's great to marry within your faith tradition, the early church was actually pretty revolutionary in breaking down tribal and ethnic barriers. Paul's writings show this beautiful balance between maintaining strong faith while reaching across cultural divides. |

Maximus692:The occupation of arranging marriage for others, getting unmarried people together with the main purpose that they will eventually get married. In the case of Adam and eve, Adam was not looking for Eve, it was God that said that it is not good for a man to be alone. Was Adam looking for Eve to marry? |

God2man2again:You got the definition of matchmaking but you missed the practical application of it. Matchmaking has nothing to do with you looking for a wife but others chose for you even when that's not your choice or you aren't even thinking about it. So when talking about matchmaking it's a person the matchmaker thought is good enough for you not what you are thinking. |

Maximus692:I partially agree with you but the match maker is not God to know everything about the person thought is good enough. That's why it is important to commit your ways into the hands of the Lord even though the match maker has finished the work. |
