semid4lyfe:And say it's something you can't have one family member representing the rest of the group...something like say a VISA appointment or some biometric capturing exercise. |

raumdeuter:Fear not the spambot. You can quote me directly. You and I know most women do not drive interstate, at least not long distances like Aba to Lagos. I like that you acknowledged the problem inherent in your response |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by semid4lyfe(m): 4:44pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Theflint1:Exactly, everyone has to be present |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 4:55pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Theflint1:Makes it complicated to be honest. To put children that young in commercial and with just one parent will be challenging for long distance |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by semid4lyfe(m): 5:05pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
raumdeuter:Only 2 options in my opinion. 1. They man drives and they all go in the car. Or 2. They split up by boarding two separate commercial vehicles. The father goes with the 5 year old in one vehicle and the mother goes with 3 and 1 year old baby in another. |

semid4lyfe:In this instance, there is absolutely no way I am traveling with everyone, especially in Naija. Now, this is my own opinion and may vary from another person. I should also state that I am a hands on dad, like really hands on with my kids. Traveling with 3 kids ages 5, 3 and 1. Even if madam can drive, I won't permit her driving such long distance. Wifey will travel commercial, leaving with the first bus out of Lagos. I will ensure it is as comfortable and an option with fewer co-travelers. She will travel with the 1 year old as he/she is priority and more dependent on mom than me. I will drive my 5 and 3 year old kids to the destination the following day after I confirm wifey and 1 year old have arrived destination. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 5:26pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
raumdeuter:2 adults (1 being the driver) traveling with 3 kids in 1 car while carrying loads that will take up space is already going to be inconvenient and uncomfortable for Naija. |

Theflint1:When you have a family especially with little kids involved, planning is critical. You don't travel to a Visa interview if it is out of state on same day. Even people who reside in Lagos book hotels or stay close to the Embassy before the day of the interview because Lagos can happen to you. Plan to arrive Lagos a day or 2 before your interview or biometric capture. |

Roland17:But this also split the prospective danger(it will never happen) into two. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 5:36pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
rooftops:The idea about risk management isn't to eliminate risk but to mitigate. I'd take my chances with splitting my family than losing my entire family if the worst happens, God forbids. Again, it is all about individual preference. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 5:47pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Roland17:So, when you go to the mall, is it possible to mitigate this risk by going in the morning, and then she goes in the evening? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 5:52pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
This thing na trauma response, it's the sort of thinking that in most normal societies, it's a fringe group of persons thinking like this, but it being so normalized and this reasonable is trauma, not any risk mitigating kini...this isn't normal thought pattern, unless you're from a country where casual interstate movement is coin toss. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by rooftops: 5:53pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Roland17:God forbid o, man i hate traveling even shortest distance. I don't know how izzou does it ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 5:53pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
izzou:2 extremes Izzou. I am not talking of visits, short travels around town etc. The probability of getting into a fatal accident, getting kidnapped, attacked by bandits or getting stranded because of vehicle issues in the middle of no where are higher traveling inter-state, in comparison to the angu you are taking. I am not trying to control every instance but one that presents the highest probability of risk when certain uncontrollable factors are considered. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 5:55pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
rooftops:How did you know I was traveling?
|
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 5:58pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Roland17:I'd wager in a working country the reverse would be the case, because of a higher density of randomness you're having to deal with having so many cars and people at the same time. Normal normal, interstate travel is much less risky and predictable than intrastate movement. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 5:58pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Roland17:My point is why wake up and live with such fear? People die everyday, even from circumstances that you would consider "safe". I know I will die someday, and by God's grace not prematurely. But what I will not do is sit down and be planning who should travel first in case I die. That one na suffer nau |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 6:00pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Theflint1:But Naija no be normal situation na. Unnecessary risks that threaten human survival are what you are grappling with in Nigeria so you have to make choices to mitigate some of these. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 6:02pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Roland17:Yea, the point was more in response to those suggesting it was a reasonable way to go about things, even in a working country. Like you wey still dey live like that for abroad, there's no statistical reason why you should still be going about things like that if it wasn't trauma from Naija still putting you on edge ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by rooftops: 6:03pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
izzou:Hahahaha, you go dan discover new traveling company. How do you do it, don't you get scared of accidents ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by semid4lyfe(m): 6:06pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Roland17:Law enforcement on the highway go harass and disturb you tire for driving interstate with two young kids without their mother. I guess that issue can be overcome if you carry their birth certificate, IP, proof of relationship documents etc join body. Also, five and three year olds bicker a lot. Dem go dey disturb and distract you if you dey drive. Good response sha. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 6:07pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
izzou:You are not planning for yourself, you are mitigating risks for everyone in the family. You are also not traveling with your family across states everyday so it isn't something to plan everyday. If there was a job offer with similar benefits/ wages in Akwa Ibom and Benue and safety is a critical factor, which one will you take? This is why we have life expectancy stats |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:13pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Roland17:I am just trying to be realistic here. If I had a car to travel with my family for Christmas, are you saying we should share ourselves to mitigate risk? That's more expensive. That's also not certain |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:15pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
rooftops:I am not dying by accident. I travel because of a need to. I cannot rule it aside. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 6:40pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
raumdeuter:I think it's more complicated than that sha, I mean these things have been happening since forever, and there's even an infamous quote by Uthman Dan Fodio where he said he was going to dip his religious book in the Atlantic...clearly a very expansionist agenda right there. And if it's simply people moving southwards because of desertification, these Northern states are the South of other places in the world, why are those persons not moving into their South and killing them en masse and making this climate change argument? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 6:42pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
izzou:Baba na your choice to make. Me I know the one I will take, especially if there are kids involved. |

Roland17:Lmao I booked hotel 2 days to my journey. I was living in ajao estate and I still booked hotel even closer to the airport. Them nor dey tell person 😂 |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 7:13pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Theflint1:Do you know how many Nigeriens and Chadians have moved Southward into Northern Nigeria? The real people we call Fulanis are not even indigenous to that place, the migrated southwards. Yes they have killed many of the native Hausas over the years and still killing them regularly. As bad as what is happening in Benue and Plateau is, You will be shocked that more people have been killed in Zamfara state by militias in recent years. Zamfara is one of the most Northern of Nigerian states You think those herdsmen know who is called Uthman Dan Fodio and following one religious whatever? They simply need the resources that they don't have or no longer have. There is no way people who practice crop eating as an occupation will be friends with those who cultivate crops. Its like mouse and rat Over time the wounds become deeper and it gets into Israel vs Palestine territory |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 7:41pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
izzou:That's why the more money you have the more you start spending to mitigate risk. If you don't have money, you just take your chances |
