What The Cock Crow Reminded Apostle Peter Of

What usually comes to mind when a cock crows is that a new day has just dawned.

However there appears to be much more significance to the crowing of a cock for a certain christian in the Bible than just the dawning of a new day.

Before the arrest of Jesus had told Peter he will deny Him three times before the cock crows, however Peter insisted that even if it meant him dying, he will never deny Jesus.

Matthew 26:34-35 (KJV)

Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

But after the arrest of Jesus Peter found himself not just denying Jesus once or twice, but also cursing and swearing that he never knew Him.

Matthew 26:69-75 (KJV)

Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

So it was while Peter was yet busy denying Jesus that the cock crew just as Jesus had said, which made Peter remember the Word of Jesus concerning him that he felt so remorseful and wept bitterly.

Hence it took the crow of the cock to remind Peter of Jesus' Words, which proved very significant and marked a turning point in his life after he had strayed and lost his way, as it made him realise how much he let Jesus down and led him to repentance.

God bless.

Today many of us Christians have strayed and let Jesus down in so many ways even much more than Peter had done on that occasion, so just as the cock crow reminded Peter of the Words of Jesus, let it also remind us of His Words, so we can realize how far we have strayed and gone away from His Own Way, so we can retrace our steps back to Him and be fully restored.

God bless.

That's the reason why we use chicken or cock to celebrate Easter.

May the lord bless this Easter

I think it was Jesus not blasting him for betraying him after his ressurection that really was the turning point in Peter's life.

You meet the man you betrayed walking around, and you expect him to...you know, really lose his temper towards you, or probably curse you like he did that fig tree...and instead he gives you the same job he has always given you?

Elijah essentially by running away from Jezebel did the same thing. But when God spoke he did not first give a long lecture on why Elijah was such a weakling from running away in fear. He gave instructions, like he always had. no mention of lack of faith.

No matter how 'strong' in Faith we may claim to be, we can always fall in the least of most expected circumstances.

It’s natural to feel for Peter when that rooster reminds him of his promise.

That crow is like a sudden alarm in our mind.

It shakes you awake to mistakes you tried to forget.

History shows early church writers saw Peter’s tears as a model for real change.

He didn’t just feel sorry—he turned back to Jesus.

Think of it like a compass needle snapping toward north after you’ve wandered.

We all stray sometimes, but a small reminder can steer us home.

Prayer and honest tears can help us forgive ourselves, too.

That mix of history and heart makes Peter’s story a guide for our own stumbles.

Is it because by nature humans are not infallible? Can one ever attain the level of not coming up short before GOD?
