The Anambra State Government has demolished the showroom of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) located in Nnewi, the industrial hub of the state, News360 Nigeria reports.

The company has expressed outrage over the partial demolition of the Head Office, situated on the Owerri-Nnewi road.

Mr Cornel Osigwe, Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Group, who confirmed the demolition to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that there was no pre-notification ahead of the demolition which took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

He claimed that the office perimeter fence, some offices, stair case and the company’s showroom were affected by the partial demolition.

According to Osigwe, there was no pre notification ahead of the demolition; it came to us as a surprise.

“We did not know that the building itself was marked for demolition and if it was marked, they should have given us time to relocate.

“The staff were working and they just saw the demolition vehicle demolishing the building while work was going on.

“Some of our staff were trapped in the building, it took the efforts of our other staff to rescue those that were trapped while over 20 vehicles were also trapped.

“A day before the demolition, there was an announcement that there was going to be a demolition and they were going to give one week for the houses that were marked for demolition to relocate.

“The company was not aware that the company was marked for demolition, and even if it was aware.

“There have been a public announcement that all the marked buildings have one week to relocate, but all those things were not considered.

“There were other buildings that were close to the head office and marked for demolition were not demolished but they came straight to our building and demolished it, making us to wonder if there was another ulterior motive to it,” he said.

When asked if the demolition could be as a result of political witch-hunt, the company’s image maker said he did not think the state government would intentionally decide to demolish the company.

“Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra has been a great supporter of Innoson Vehicle and Innoson has been a great supporter of the state government.

“But the way and manner that everything happened makes us to wonder if the state government is aware that those handling the demolition have personal vendetta against the company,”
he added.

However, the state Commissioner for Works, Mr Ifeanyi Okoma, defended the demolition, saying that the IVM Head Office was among the buildings marked for demolition for road construction.

The commissioner made the defence in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Onitsha while reacting to complaints by the company over the demolition.

Okoma explained that all the affected buildings were marked and the people were informed.

“These buildings were marked sometime in December or January, we are not looking at individuals; it is something that cuts across the whole place and it is not personalised.

“Even the Catholic Church and every other building that is along the road were not going to be exonerated. These roads were designed to decongest traffic gridlock experienced during festival periods,”
he said.

According to him, “Soludo is the only governor nationwide that uses made in Nigeria vehicles. Chief Innoson is our man, anybody trying to create wrong narrative about the demolition exercise does not mean well.

Nigeria government is very useless. You will start a building from foundation to finish and u will not see any government establishment to inform you the location is government land. The moment the project is completed , the useless government will bring it down without considering the huge amount invested in in the project
Re: Anambra: Demolition not personal - Commissioner, We were not informed - IVM by PDPdestroyer(m):
I said it earlier. Lagos state government carried out the demolition to force IVM to relocate its HQ to Lagos.
I call on all Ibos of good conscience to rally round and stop this victimization and harassment of Ibo businesses in Anambra by the Lagos state government grin

They will be silent on this; their level of open hypocrisy is astonishing.
Just imagine if this had happened in Lagos, even all the IPOB terrorist retards on NL and other socail media would have been crying and wailing by now.

Lies from pit of hell

Innoson shouldn't condescend to this abysmal low.
I personally passed that road precisely on 8th March , 2025 and I saw the marked areas for demolition. In fact, I was even applauding Soludo for not diverting the road because of this company as it would be disastrous.

Work on dualization of the road has been going on at least, since this year and Innoson NEVER deemed it fit to temporarily relocate the vehicles.

For clarity, Innoson among others affected, violated by building structures without giving at least, 15 meters away from the state road. They just mopped up illegal structures everywhere with some built even by covering the drainages.
Must we politicise everything in this country?

Innoson should either retract this stupid statement by his aide or cover his head in shame for lying precariously.

I totally disagree with Innoson Every one along this corridor knows that their construction going on along this road. The houses along this corridor have long been marked for partial demolition.

The construction didn't start this year. Innoson motor is just being clever by half

You can be very educated, but not wise.

Soludo needs to take a lesson in philosophy from obi.

Man, know thyself.

What vendetta is Cornel talking about? They can sue if notice was not given ahead of time though. I nevertheless support the road construction going on in Nnewi my hometown.

Most of you post out of pure ignorance .

Their are many buildings along the same corridors that are not affected. When your building comes within 45mitres along the roads, you should expect demolition when ever any roads construction come along the place.
Una too like emotion in this country

Why will Innoson mouthpiece lie such a lie? This property has been conspicuously marked with very bold red paint on the fence for quite some time.
