You could have played along and invited the police , who knows how many have fell for his antics.

The person claimed someone referred him to me. He said his boss, a senator, urgently needed bags of rice for a birthday giveaway to prisoners and motherless babies. Sounds noble, right?

By 8:10am, he requested my account details.

Barely 10 minutes later, he forwarded a transaction receipt of N2.1 million and began calling repeatedly, urging me to send the goods immediately.

He said, “We trusted you enough to pay before seeing you. Please trust us back and send the rice now. We need it urgently.”

But something didn’t sit right with me.

Thankfully, I zoomed in on the receipt and noticed a tiny detail that didn’t match up.

I'll share the major difference here

I forwarded the receipt to my account officer, and guess what?

It was a fake alert.

I quietly thanked God and smiled. Because if I had moved by emotions, pressure, or excitement, I would have lost both goods and capital.

In business, emotion is expensive. Wisdom and structure will save you from tears.

it goes without saying that funds must be confirmed in the account before goods are released. Aside the things you noticed, the session ID and/or transaction reference always has the date and time of the transaction in those long string of numbers you see. It takes some getting used to, but with practice over time, you'd be able to glance through and spot any funny business in mere seconds

Eg the original you posted, after the 000014 the next number is the date in y/m/date format 25/02/22. The next two numbers in the exact time the transaction went through 19:05

They have this app they call Raven ithink it is like all this fintech banks. One can actually send money to you and then after sometime retract it.. You'd get notification of payment but as soon as they leave you they'd retract(don't know if iam using the right term) the funds

Once a transaction has been consummated via Nibss, it cannot be retracted.

Even if it appears real, another way to ensure real transaction is check your bank account on your mobile app. If you don’t have a mobile app, just withdraw few amount and check what your account balance will inform you via SMS.

So if the person didn't seem in a hurry, would you have released the goods?

Forging a transaction screenshot to have all features of an original can be done in seconds.

It might be you were targeted because they know you don't have a quick and reliable means to confirm receipt of funds. Calling your account officer for every regular transaction is not a good use of time.
Your bank app or online account is the quickest and most reliable way of confirming

You can receive alert. See it on your app as pending or book balance but it will never add to your available balance. In crypto term they call it "flashing "

The same way your bank app can be use to remove all your money when your phone is stolen or misplaced!

My guy dey import cars and sell and im get trading centre for wey im dey sell cars wey get car wash, saloon, shopping mall, restaurant and bar.
My guy travel last month, and 2 men and 1 woman show up to buy car apparently for the lady as one of the men presented himself as the lady's husband.
Them choose one Toyota Prado TX series about 48 million and they agree on price with the manager.
The manager drop account details, within the hour dem wire the money alright carry motor comot.
2 days later, them return come meet the manager say the wife dey complain abt the motor say e too big for am, say she go like something smaller, dem look all around but she no see her choice of car, so dem start negotiate with manager how dem fit return the car make dem reimburse them, deduct any deductibles from the money.
Them tell the manager say "money na water" as dem come with 2024 Evoque, say make manager collect 5 million return dem 43 million.
Manager say make dem return in 2 hours e go need call oga and they need run diagnostics on the car.
Meanwhile, oga don travel and oga no know about the deal so manager dey imagine to make the quickest 5 million for im life by accepting the car back after the diagnostics don complete and reimbursing the 43 million and keeping 5 million for himself.
2 hours later manager call them say all correct, im go transfer back the 43 million to them, make dem drop account.
Dem tell manager say na cash dem want no be transfer say dem don see another car to buy but the seller want cash, so dem go prefer for just come collect cash go pay to the new seller for the new car wey dem wan buy.
Dey even tell manager say dem go add am another 500k if e go fit bring dem cash.
Manager im head dey only swell on 5.5 million wey im go get sharp sharp.
Manager call bank officer, bank officer say time don go, make e come by 9a.m the next day come collect the 43 million.
Manager no fit sleep the whole night, na im e go explain to im wife wey na Police say na like dis like dis.
Na im im wife tell am say, make e no withdraw any money, say if dem wan reimbursement, the money gats to be refunded by transfer and not to any other account but to that same account wey pay the money.
Next morning im wife carry plain clothed police colleagues go there, manager call say cash dey make dem come collect.
Na the 2 guys come without the woman.
Police arrest dem immediately, direct station.
Na for station wey story bust say dat 48 million na ransom money from someone important in one of the SE states, who was even killed after the money was paid, If u know, u know.
Just imagine say the manager been withdraw that money cash give dem.
Im for explain tire, with no evidence.

It's disheartening that crime has gotten to a level that an oversight can lead to loss of millions.
Years ago a customer deposited a cheque into a company's account. It appeared on the statement of account and the naive account officer gave it value not taking note of the value date, she authorised the release of goods to the customer. And two days later the bank reversed the money, that the cheque was spurious. They are yet to catch the fraudsters. Please let me careful and always check value date and not transaction date. SMS alert is not enough for payment confirmation. Always check the App. In fact for big amounts of money always get a second opinion.

Transferring the money immediately can be very risky.
You can receive transfer from a kidnapper using a victims account.

There is no way money will enter Ur acct and u go see am add to ur previous balance and the person who sent it will remove it again

Nothing like flashing when money enter Ur bank account unless ńa banker mistakenly credit u

The scammer is an amateur in the game. This is a very old format of scamming unsuspecting people that's been around for years. Due diligence is key when engaging in all business transactions. Keep your eyes on the fine details. Period.

By 'online', that is the secure website of the bank where you can login from any browser, check your balance and make transactions.


To transfer, you could use an app, 'online (i.e website), USSD (i.e specific phone codes). Other methods would be cheques, via an account officer (for certain accounts) e.t.c.

In todays world, no one should be using a screenshot from the sender to verify transfer of funds.

For me, I'll tell you clearly that before I honor your request I must confirm the cash inflow either from my bank app or through email.

Alert and receipt can easily be forged. But your balance cannot.

The moment a person is trying to seriously hurry me up on a transaction, I immediately get suspicious. It is a common tactic of fraudsters.

Unless you have chosen not to have internet banking.

The moment you do a transaction you will get two alerts. Sms and email. Then you can login to your app to also confirm funds received. Unless your bank server is misbehaving and your alerts are being delayed

Furthermore your credit or debit alerts all come from the same number. So unless you are deleting your alerts there is a trail on your phone of alerts following each other. So it is simply a case of maths. Balance after my last transaction was x. Therefore balance after this credit should be credit plus x.

As the message comes in on WhatsApp, the credit alert sms and email should be coming in at the same time.
