Dear Nairalanders,

For years, people have been alleging that Nairaland is a toxic place where people insult each other and exhibit uncontrolled tribal bigotry. So after my last thread, we decided to follow through by extending the mandate of our anti-spam bot to include dealing with toxicity.

Unfortunately, the roll out wasn't smooth: many innocent members were unjustly banned. We apologize profusely for this. We will keep tweaking the bot to make it more accurate. Meanwhile, please reach out to the mods and supermods if you are unjustly banned.

Hit me with your suggestions and complaints.
I don't think any innocent person was banned. The ban was well deserved.
I'm under a ban too.
What about the profile search I talked about? When you search for some particular keywords on people's profile it'll becomes a global search matching other profile.
It's not good that way. Please fix that

@Seun just 2 things i request:
1. Compelling Christians to swear an oath of allegiance before posting on Islamic threads, is not only an assault but also unfair. If an oath is absolutely necessary, implement for both Muslims and Christians on their various threads.
2. Kindly look into the case where certain people by a means not yet understood, award a large number of likes to their own posts. I don't believe they have such large number of multiple accounts. It has to be something else. This is prevalent in politics threads. Implementing a dislike button will counter this, however.
Well done and thanks for keeping nairaland alive.

Dear Seun, many android users utilize Opera Mini with extreme data saving. With data saving on the nairaland site doesn't load because it checks for human verification.

However, Amazon and other major websites do human verification without forcing to disable data saving.

How old are you n who is your boss ?

You can't get it once. Keep tweaking the bot and it will get to that point.
The bad eggs need to be flushed out. Innocent young minds are indirectly corrupted here because of the foolishness of a few, making nairaland lose its credibility.
And kudos to all the very old members who have maintained decorum despite the provocations. Some of us would rather ignore than join the profanity.
Gradually, Nairaland will be sane again.

PS: Feels good to be FTC, best still, on the boss's post. There are levels to these things. I feel like I'm standing on your heads grin

Dealing with insult, tribal slur, negative remark just because u are from certain tribe, none respect etc should be a number one priority

Political section was my favourite but i dare not visit there because of what they turned it to..
I remembered talking to a friend about nairaland all he could say was its a toxic forum

In 2007 to 2010 it wasn't like this

TikTok’s, Facebook, and their likes have all upgraded and don't give rooms for that
The bolded statement is simply not true, especially with regard to Twitter and TikTok.
Africans have been conditioned to think that everything white or foreign is superior, expecting them to set the standards while we follow.
On Twitter, you can literally say almost anything about anyone and anything you like.

As much as I disagree with unrestrained freedom of speech—especially when it enables people to express deep, unjustified hate and bigotry—we must also remember that people want the ability to express themselves. While some do so in very negative ways, others still manage to communicate in a most refined and thoughtful manner.

Seun, Nairaland needs to find a better balance.

You can't have a decent or meaningful conversation with some members and next is to start insulting you, this usually happens in the politics section majorly, if that section can be properly sanitized every other section will be easily curtailed of such...

I was banned yesterday by your anti bot kindly unban me

Happy Easter Mr Seun cool

The suggestions you never implement?? You know bots CAN'T do this thing. Even social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter with more than a billion users have human moderators that work on removing posts. So why should Nairaland not hire humans to do the same, instead of relying on bots that could malfunction very horribly on false positives and false negatives.

Seun, i am happy to know that you are working to make this forum a safe place again for everyone, especially for us old members who truly enjoyed the peace of this forum when it was a safe place to relax and catch fun.
But the truth most be told Seun, you did almost nothing to contain or wipe out the miscreants who has turned this forum to what it's known for now, it's not all about asking for people's suggestions, how many have you put into practice?

Take a break from X (Twitter) and fix this forum.

Good move. Nairaland is loaded with valuable useful information, we shouldn't allow bigotry to pollute this space. A good number of the bigots actually hate this forum and wishing for her downfall. There is therefore no reason they should be given any breathing space.
Tribaland will die.

Hi. seun,

Please what is/are your plans for those who now specialize in using nairaland mainly for begging purposes. If you take note, its getting worse by the day. Many more are becoming embolden to try it because nothing was done to cautious such attitude. I knew one guy here who has operated over 100 accounts with same pictures or same story line.

This is necessary to sanitize nairaland.

Regards
