It is so painful how some entities will come up with rubbish ideologies thinking they are religiously supreme and lord their rubbish thoughts on people who esteem them as "next to God". Members dey hungry, pastor go say, go and work. But when pastors dey hungry, na members money nai sweet pass. Members dey sick, pastor go say, go buy anointing oil make I prayer for you and you go do prayers and fasting join. But when pastor nor well, dem go hide doctor wey go come dey treat am for house. Na wa for who neva still get sense for 9ja. |

@pastorpoju didn't get it right this time. Where on earth do you have Doctors trained on 500k in Nigeria. I'm disappointed Pastor made such bad comment. Also that Nigerians are ungrateful! Too bad. |

janedonez:He deserves it...! I keep saying that until average and less privileged Nigerians start eulogizing the so called giant strides of the leaders, those in privileged positions should learn to tame their tongues. It is just common sense. |

Porksupplyib:Tuition? How about Accommodation Food Transportation Books. Yes expensive books Handouts These days you even have to add digital costs: Laptops, Phones for those that can't afford a laptop. Etc Tuition was N200 my first year in school per year. Other expenses were N12,000. So you can imagine if Tuition is 150k today, how much are other expenses? |

Are you saying an average medical student don’t spend around 4m per annum ranging from tuition to, feeding, textbooks, accommodation, clothing, practicals and other miscellaneous? If you multiply it by 7years in school you will know that the medical association is not far from the truth. LegendHero: |

Up until Year 2010, many FG Universities charged less than 100k for Medicine. You can verify. Law in LASU was 25k up till year 2012 or thereabout. Many doctors who graduated before year 2010 paid less than 500k in tuition fees. That is heavy subsidization by Government. Presently, private Universities charge as much as 8m for Medicine yet I'm not sure any public Uni chrges 1m for Medicine. Resident doctors should be grateful. kennethesan: |

Porksupplyib:They spend more than that. Their textbooks are not cheap, first of all. Secondly, becoming a doctor does not end after six years. There are further paid exams they have to write as resident doctors before they become certified and also before they become consultants. It's not a piece of cake as we are all looking at it from outside their profession. |

9jatriot:U dey mind Dem. They are liars. Even if they aren't lying, they just confirmed it that they owe their training and certificate to the Nigerian govermnt. Cus they didn't spend up to 5m to get trained. If I were in the government shoes, No one leaves, until after serving for 10years minimum. |

Pastor Poju should relax and stop trying b to have takes on everything. Who told him some people do not do multiple jobs in Nigeria. Who told him people do not uber after they close at 5pm in Nigeria. The problem is that a lot of people never even get single job, before we start talking of multiple jobs. And talking about putting fraction of the energy they put abroad, the ones that are putting energy in uber bolt-police and VIO are draining them, the ones that are putting energy in farming fulani herdsmen and bandits are dealing with them, the ones that are putting energy in academics-the political class and elites from whom Poju rakes in his gifts and tithes are dealing with them. So much talk about what medical students pay abroad. There is Federal student loan available for those who want to use. Finish medical school. They have a job that will comfortably pay it over time, even if you accumulate $700k in student loan. Give Nigerian students too loan, And guarantee them reasonable salary and jobs to do when they graduate. |

Porksupplyib:First you should have noted that the referenced research was done in 2021 before doing your calculation. Exchange rate has changed drastically obviously. Secondly, how do you insist someone owes his country for training him when the said country didn't train him for free? Is that logical to you? |

FatherLord:They don't spend such amount. When you talk about average, we mean public institutions. Which public institution spend 4m per year on all those things you listed there? The guy handling their account seems not to read the journal he posted. What was stated there was that the estimate of medical school is put at $25 - $50k, but the Nigerian government is subsidizing almost 80% or so which mean student are actually paying the rest. So how does that translate to student paying $25k? Are student the one bearing the cost of subsidy or the government? |

Maitunbi:Even if you use year 1867 conversion, no doctor in Nigeria history spend $25k on tuition, fees, accommodation, and etc. That you dey beleiveee that self is a causee for conceern. @the bold, the reason is because the government is heavily subsidizing medical education in Nigeria. Even from the article the resident doctor quoted, they mentioned that Nigeria subsidize fee up to 80% for doctors and that is exactly why they pay peanuts as tuition compared to their counterpart abroad. |

I don't respect self appointed pastors who dabble into politics unnecessarily. This one in particular thinks he's "woke". I recall when there was "push up challenge" trending on social media and this man jumped on it... Doing push up in his church..on the altar..right in front of his mostly discombobulated audience. 20 pushups in total. I shook my head and made a comment under the post -- can't remember what I typed exactly. And the way this man responded really took me by surprise. He responded like an ordinary street person in Lagos would respond to a perceived affront. After that day I said.. this man... No way. No be me. |

There's some merit in what Poju said. Thing is, cancel culture has to find expression even when an opinion is right. |

Some people will be busy judging NARD. So you only pay tuition fee's to become a medical Doctor. To be a professional no be come chop. Allowed the Doctor's to breath. Dear Pastor, God hasn't call you to venture into politics, rather to preach righteousness to leader's and redeem their soul's and their follower's from destruction. Don't be biased in your preaching. |

I stopped reading when NARD said it costs about $21,000 to $51,000 to train a doctor in Nigeria. Both NARD and the publisher of that studies they got their report from are on drugs. I graduated as a doctor in a federal university in Nigeria and i didn't spend more than 1 million throughout my stay in school. Every other thing they said maybe correct, but saying it takes 33 million naira to 81 million naira to train a doctor in Nigeria is a lie from the pit of hell |

Maitunbi:Firstly, addressing the issue of date and exchange rates, Let's calmly analyse this. If the research was done in 2021 and it wrote $21,000-$51,000, we can easily conclude that if the research is done in 2025 it would be much higher than that. Agreed? Now let's address the second issue you brought up. "How do we insist a trained individual owes his country when he was not trained for free?" Very good question, I must say. Yes it is true that students didn't get trained for free. But it is also true that it is heavily subsidized. As a Vet Doctor, my training costed the University/govermnt more than x40 what I paid for. Should I have gotten trained in a developed country. Today, I have training and skill which can rival Vets in other countries. And with some few trainings, brushing up and examination, I would qualify to practice anywhere in the world. If i now decide to leave the country while my country lacks doctors just because I will get paid better in another country, It will be unpatriotic of me. Note, I am not saying Doctors shouldn't be allowed to leave, but they should serve the country and the people for some years. Tax payers money paid part of that training. |
| Re: Pastors With Tithes Can Easily Seek Care Abroad - Resident Doctors Fault Oyemade by Amayabor1: 3:14pm On Apr 22, 2025 |
Maitunbi:Even if the reference research was done in 2021, NARD quoting those figures in 2025, knowing fully well that exchange rate has gone up shows they are clueless. Secondly, even if you use 2021 exchange rate, no doctor was trained with that amount in Nigeria. I graduated as a doctor in a federal university. If i spent too much throughout my stay in school, it can never be more than 1.5 million naira. (1.5M is even too much). |

What a gaff. Grateful, as in the doctors lie down and Nigeria opened their brains and poured the knowledge into it? They didn't study, didn't sweat, didn't struggle? Every country takes more from their citizens than they give to their citizens, it's just that some countries give more than others. you're under no obligation to waste your life caring about any country. |

If we had jobs that paid very well, Nigerians wud be working in 3 places per day. How do u even work in 2 places in Nigeria with the traffic hold up, hunger, stress and time limits? |

If you guys are not medical doctors trained in Nigeria then you don’t know this for certain. Don’t use your tuition to compare to their education expenses. You think school fees are the only expenses they pay? Porksupplyib: 9jatriot: LegendHero: |

If you want them to be grateful, provide the full spectrum, which includes an enabling environment (equipment, salary, working conditions), where they can grow to their fullest. Anyone that leaves at that point, you can call ungrateful |

Porksupplyib:They quoted a journal of 2018, which is correct at that time. Co-incidentally, the same Government the Pastor is trying to cover up for, is the same Government that made $21k a huge amount. In 2018, $21k was roughly N7.6m. So, the Doctors are correct with their post. Even at that, there're still private Universities in Nigeria where you'll spend up to that amount to study medicine.
