Insecurity in Benue: We inherited an extremely bad Government - NSA Ribadu by Thescrutinyng(op): 6:00pm On Apr 22, 2025
National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu inherited an extremely poor security situation but is working relentlessly to restore peace across the country.

Speaking during a security meeting with stakeholders at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, Ribadu commiserated with the people over the spate of killings and renewed attacks, assuring them that the Federal Government is committed to overcoming the crisis.

“We will defeat it. The entire country is with you,” Ribadu told the gathering. “I commiserate with the people of Benue and assure you that this is a trying period for all of us, but we are 100 percent with you.”

Ribadu emphasized the strategic importance of Benue State in the nation’s security architecture, adding that efforts would be intensified to ensure lasting peace in the region.

“Benue is an extremely important state to Nigeria. We must fight and maintain Benue as a peaceful state. The Governor is doing well and we will support him,” he said.

The NSA acknowledged the efforts of Nigeria’s armed forces, stressing that while it is not feasible to deploy soldiers or police to every community, progress is being made.

“Our armed forces are doing well. It’s impossible to post security to every hamlet. What we need is support and for people to stop politicizing the killings. That will help us restore peace.”

Ribadu pointed to the current administration’s efforts in tackling insecurity and highlighted that the security situation has already seen significant improvement compared to what was inherited.

“We inherited an extremely bad government. Things have improved. We’re addressing the issues. To do harm is easy, but to fix things takes time. We have considerably reduced the level of violence we met. This, too, we will confront.”

The NSA’s visit comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in Benue State and other parts of the country, with calls for urgent and effective intervention to halt further violence.

From Whom, Exactly, Did the APC Inherit Bad Governance? Let’s Stop the Delusions.

It is both intellectually dishonest and historically absurd for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to perpetually hide behind the worn-out excuse of "inheriting bad governance" as a shield for its own staggering failures. If we are to speak with unflinching clarity and academic rigor, let’s pose the question that punches through the fog of propaganda:
From whom, precisely, did the APC inherit bad governance?

From the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)? That would be rich — considering APC is a Frankenstein amalgamation of PDP defectors, opportunistic cross-carpeters, and career politicians with no ideology beyond power for power’s sake. Nearly half the current APC leadership built their political fortunes within PDP, bled the treasury dry under PDP, and only swapped jerseys to continue the plunder under a different acronym.

So again, from whom did they inherit the rot? Themselves?

Let’s not play dumb. APC inherited a system they helped construct, corrupt, and collapse. They didn't take over from an enemy; they simply mutated into a new form of the same political virus — repackaged with empty slogans, borrowed credibility, and zero structural difference.

APC is not the cure — it is the continuation. A regime where excuses are policy, and gaslighting is governance.

So if bad governance was inherited, it was a handover from one arm of the same political organism to another — a relay of failure passed between familiar hands.

The truth is brutal. But the people deserve nothing less.

i hope i don't get banned for asking a question

Enonsensee.

President Tinubu should work with NASS and give state police asap and remove the burden of local state security on the FG.

Benue governor should be able to massively recruit Benue people into their police force and allow them to bear sophisticated ammuunnitioon with the necessary fundings needed.

Until that happens, insecurity will not end because politicians usually use it as a tool to faightt their opponent.

The best time to ban open grazing in its entirety is yesterday.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, during a visit to Benue State on April 22, stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration inherited a severe security crisis but is working hard to restore stability across Nigeria.

Ribadu’s visit to Makurdi aimed to commiserate with the government and people of Benue following attacks by suspected herdsmen, which claimed over 72 lives in Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo local government areas.

Condemning the killings as a tragic evil, Ribadu urged unity to combat the threat, saying, “We will defeat it. The entire country is with you. I commiserate with Benue people and assure you this is a trying period for all of us; we are 100 percent with you. We will confront it. Benue is an extremely important state to Nigeria. We must fight and maintain Benue as a peaceful state.”
He acknowledged the efforts of security forces but noted the challenge of covering every hamlet, adding, “Our armed forces are doing well. It is impossible to post soldiers or police to every hamlet. Give us a chance and stop politicising the killings. This will help us to restore peace.”

Ribadu claimed progress in reducing violence compared to the inherited situation, stating, “We inherited an extremely bad government, and things have improved, and we will address all these issues cropping up. It is a matter of time; to do the harm is easy, but to solve it is difficult. We have considerably reduced the number of violent (incidents) we met. This one, too, we will confront it.” He called for patience and warned against politicising the crisis.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia described the state as under siege since 2011, with persistent attacks devastating agriculture and displacing communities. He reported 17 internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and highlighted a “Black Friday” attack during Easter, saying, “Instead of a Good Friday, we have a Black Friday with a venomous attack on Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo. It is quite devastating. It is telling on us. 72 lives lost.”
Alia noted state efforts, including purchasing 100 Hilux vehicles and 600 motorcycles for security, but stressed the need for urgent federal support, stating, “We need help like yesterday. The president has been very supportive, and we hope that support will come.”

Alia identified the attackers as speaking Fulani and Hausa, alleging a deliberate strategy to kill and occupy land, and urged President Tinubu to expel the “killer herdsmen”, saying, “We are helpless. We do not have AK-47. We are defenceless. We tell the people to be law-abiding, and the attackers take advantage of this. We are not in a banana republic.”

Chief Iyorkyaa Kaave, representing Tor Sankera Chief David Sevav, reported an additional 11 deaths in Afia, Ukum, with more bodies being discovered. He appealed to Tinubu to hold the perpetrators accountable for the ongoing atrocities.

Government is continuity

Blame game will never solve a problem but proactive actions

There's a saying that 'if you can stand the heat, leave the kitchen'

It's only in Africa that political leaders will rather remain on power & watch things damaged behind repair instead of to step down and allow competent hand to handle it

Too much square peg in round holes from top to bottom

Bad government inherited bad government. Shame on all of you. And one T. Y. Danjuma and one Caleb Mutfwang were telling poor villagers to defend themselves. How do you expect villagers who are mostly women and little children to defend themselves against armed terrorists with RPGs, AK47 and other high calibre anti-aircraft guns mounted on trucks?
