I have always insisted that Nigeria's population is grossly overestimated If after all the enrollment surge that was occasioned by NIN-SIM linkage that even foreigners from Niger, Chad, Benin were registering as Nigerians, total figure is a paltry 118m not even close to half of our projected 250m population, then it's obvious that we might not even be up to 200m in the final run. As at the last count, INEC database had 94m Nigerians and even that still contains foreigners. So how is the 250m claim justified in the midst of these figures? |

Surge is probably because of people writing Jamb. Estimated 2 million people to write the exam this year so about half should be first timers. This should account for the surge between February and March. |

No need for a full census with NiN gaining such momentum. They just want to loot again. |

Agbegbaorogboye:No NiN for kids of below the ages of 15. In fact, most educated kids only go for it when the appraoch jamb and waec exam stage. What happens to the uneducated ones who are not taking jamb or waec? What about below age of eight who form one-third of the population? 118m is a strong figure and be close to 200m when the unregistered are included. |

Can we assume 50m are yet to have NIN? It will still be shy of 200m. I don't think we are up to 200m. Allocating NIN numbers to all citizens and conduct biometrics for them to now include state of origion and religion should be the goal of that Census. This registration already show us our population distribution in the country. I will estimate we are between 185m to 190m max. |

CodeTemplarr:You mean kids fifteen year and below are more than adults 18 and above in Nigeria? Which other country has that kind of distribution? The median age in Nigeria is 18. And like I said, most of those statistics is even faulty |

Foreigners can get NIN. Depends on the size of their pockets and who they know. It's sad. |

Agbegbaorogboye:you need to factor the fact that most Nigerians below the age of 16 haven't been enrolled, most young Nigerians enrol when they are about to register for Jamb. |

Agbegbaorogboye:Our 0-17 age group could be up to 35/40% of the population. If indeed 118m people already have NIN, then Nigeria population could be truly >200m. Below data is source from 2006 census.

LegendHero:Bottomline Nigeria's population can't be 250m You need to brush up your maths knowledge by the way. If 60% is 118%, then 40% can't give us 200m |

Agbegbaorogboye:Hahaha, for a country like nigeria ,getting 118m in a short period of registration shows we might be above 240m,alot of people do not even have nin ,villages, suburbs, children ,people above 80yrs ,newborns are yet to be captured |

Joshaw8:Note the word enrolment Enrolment has been on since 2007. So if since 2007 till now we have 118m with some definitely dead among the numbers, how can you scratch 240m |

| Re: NIN: Lagos, Kano Maintain Lead As Enrolments Hit 118.4 Million In March 2025 by LegendHero(m): 11:57am On Apr 23, 2025 |
Agbegbaorogboye:You can see I am not taking the statistics at face value because I am being conservative. If I want to use direct estimate based on the data: —18+ people who are eligible for NIN are like 52.17% — Then < 18+ percentage will be like 47.83% If you do the calculations, total population will be at 226million people based on the 118m NIN numbers. Are you arguing my calculations? |
