You can see I am not taking the statistics at face value because I am being conservative.

If I want to use direct estimate based on the data:

—18+ people who are eligible for NIN are like 52.17%
— Then < 18+ percentage will be like 47.83%

If you do the calculations, total population will be at 226million people based on the 118m NIN numbers.

Are you arguing my calculations?

You can't be sure that a good % of this your population group would have registered both in North and South. Especially when leaders are aware that this matter in population estimates, people mobilise their kinsmen. Registration for NIN is not limited to any age group and appreciable % of that age group would have been enrolled.
This 118m estimate to me should account for at least 70-75% of our population because of NIN-SIM linkage.

Look at it this way:

In the North, only the Man is allowed to have BVN, that means a state like kastina that has 4.1 million will almost have double.
Then there are the old that were not educated or those over the age of 70 that hasn't been captured.
Then we have those who feel they don't need it because of the present of Opay and the likes.

Now children between the aga of 1 and 16.1 (media age) constitute over 46% that means over 50 million children and counting.
This is not true. Men and women registered for NIN everywhere in Nigeria. Tell me where your other 4.1m live; kankara or malunfashi or jibia or where. What do people even take a million population for. Lets just assume 20-25% are yet to do. I beleive North is even more mobilized than the south

Average adult has 2 to 3 accounts and they will still count as 3 accounts opening not one.
The total number of Bank Verification Numbers issued in Nigeria climbed to 64.8 million in January 2025, marking a 2.14 per cent increase from the 63.5 million recorded at the end of 2024.
That's another valid point to consider. Largely a larger percentage of rural dwellers don't have a NIN. My grannies are a good example.

My opinion is your granny falls within the remaining 25%. You will ne shocked at many young children with NIN across North and South. If you do a comparative analysis these data ar3 more factual when you look at teled3nsity and bank accounts and internet usages. You get some trends

For PVC yes NIN, NO!
The PVC is only because they know they will be paid for having it, they are literally paid.

The NIN is a different ballgame, I am serious, their wives are not allowed except accompanied by the husband, you can argue all you want, that is the truth.

No NiN for kids of below the ages of 15. In fact, most educated kids only go for it when the appraoch jamb and waec exam stage. What happens to the uneducated ones who are not taking jamb or waec? What about below age of eight who form one-third of the population? 118m is a strong figure and be close to 200m when the unregistered are included.
why waste your time to explain to this odee.
He doesn't know that the population of people below 16y years are more than 16 years and above.

You dont even know anything. Statistical figures remain with the federal government. They'd never tell you the actual number of enrolles, same way they'd never reveal the actual population figures to the world.

As at 2021, Nigerian banks had 122.3 million active customers. I'm not even talking of opay, palmpay, monie point, etc. None of these customers would have an account without having both the bvn and NIN. Btw 2021 and now, you can imagine the figure. Again, there are students who aren't keeping bank accounts but have NINs.
There are millions in the various villages who don't have bank accounts as well.

As of last year, the number of active gsm subscribers was estimated at 219m. Can they have a line without the NIN? How will the line be activated? These are the people from 18yrs (adult) and above. We have millions who are below this age bracket. Not everyone in the villages have NIN or educated enough to have one
But you know one person can have multiple phone numbers and bank account right?

I have always insisted that Nigeria's population is grossly overestimated
If after all the enrollment surge that was occasioned by NIN-SIM linkage that even foreigners from Niger, Chad, Benin were registering as Nigerians, total figure is a paltry 118m not even close to half of our projected 250m population, then it's obvious that we might not even be up to 200m in the final run.

As at the last count, INEC database had 94m Nigerians and even that still contains foreigners.

So how is the 250m claim justified in the midst of these figures?
We might even be more numerous than projected
You didn't consider the fact that chicken are not included in the both scenerio

Foreigners, people who are not Nigerians, have NIN. Trust me, I know what I'm saying.
It's a porous system already.
Yes they do because they are supposed to. that's what I said before that you can get a NIN if you live in Nigeria unlike the international passport...

Smh. It's obvious that you didn't study some courses.

No wonder many of you display ignorance on topics you don't know. Ordinary level geography textbook will educate you on why it's no brainer on why a country like Nigeria has most of its population under 16 years.

Many of you skipped good education but now want to criticize people who are more informed and educated than you on subjects that you are intellectually deficient at. Smh
Are you not the failed pharmacist who now hawks an empty website for a living?

If memory serves me right, you once wrote a joke of a book on how to become a billionaire when you have the low end of thousands in your account. How's the billionaire dream going now?

It is shameful that your last resort is hustling crumbs from politicians as well as ethnic jingoism

A real shame after all your initial posturing

Did you know that in boko haram states majority of people don't have time for Nin.while so many people don't believe in the exercise. Similarly, in the issue of inec or voters card, millions would not register because they believed that true election can never be determined by voters card. There you're, Nigeria is indeed the giant of Africa.

How about those that already did enrollment years ago? Their figures not on this current

The total population includes home and abroad. Check the population of Nigerians in diaspora (illegal immigrants not included)
This is for total enrollment since it started in 2007

Boko haram has never affected enrollment be it PVC, BVN or NIN

Go and check the stats

That's one of the miracles of Nigeria

Not everyone has done theirs. We have about 20 million Nigerians living abroad (legally) not those that used land. We equally have a good number living in neighbouring west Africa countries that are not documented. Talk about the north that most of them don't need NIN for anything. It's safe to say we're truly around 200m+

I agree not everyone has done theirs. But the population of Nigerians abroad if added can be up to 200m truly. Note that when carrying out a census, the Nigerians in diaspora are not considered since they do not have any real impact on the figures.
118m and 94m voters register shows that our population cannot be up to 200m. Even if the numbers are doubled and you remove foreigners who registered and the dead, the number will shrink to around 180m

Yes, but what's their percentage, compared to non-active users of those lines and accounts? My stats were based on active users. Many people living in rural communities don't have NIN and they're still part of the population. They don't even have bank accounts. It's worse of in the north. I remember a day I wanted to renew my passport in Ibadan and 2 old couple were asked their NIN. They couldn't produce one and they still attended to them. NIN enrolment is only active and popular in the cities and major towns, similarly among sec schl students preparing for external exams

It's not true to say people in villages don't have NIN. As at today in Nigeria, you can't use a phone without having NIN. So how are villagers able to use their phones if they don't have NIN. Most of them who lost their numbers to NIN have procured another one.
So you need to understand that NIN has gone deeper even into remote areas due to the NIN-SIM linkage under Buhari. So for it to still be at 118million when we have over 220m subscribers shows that our population is not up to 250m. Out of the 224m subscribers, only 169 are active and when you take into account multiple SIM holders who are in the majority, you'll realise that or population can't reach 200m.
I use 3 SIMs as most of my friends do as well. In my immediate and extended family I know only one person who has 1 sim alone and that person has a phone with sim for his kids who are 10 years and below. I hope you can do the maths

i think you need to be 16 to register for NIN. No? Most people who dont need it do not register. It may be too quick to conclude Nigeria's population is overstated. Nigerias median age is about 18 years, meaning half of the population is less than 18 years

My grannies didn't have NIN, 2 of my uncles in Ijero didn't have NIN, that's just 4 people I know from my maternal side. I registered their sims and dispatched it to them. They're farmers. They complained they had to go as far as ado to get it done and the day they went, they didn't attend to them due to the mammoth crowd they met.

They didn't have any bank account too, if you want to buy yam from them, they give you a POS operator to send the money to nearby, with charges. There are at least, 3 people in every house in ekiti without NIN cos they mostly live in the farm and their relations in the city must have registered their lines for them. They go to farm Monday and return Saturday night.

My friend's dad doesn't have nin. His son gave him an ATM card with which he withdraws at a pos terminal. Like I said earlier, the situation is worse up north. We eat only cow tail in my family and I'm the one buying it. I'd go on a Saturday to abattoir, agege to buy it. None of my customers had a bank account and as you know, you also require nin to open an account, aside from the bvn. There are pos operators everywhere . I'd transfer to them and they pick their cash from them. Maybe someone also registered their phone for them in the north, like I did to my people back in ekiti.
My previous stats both on bank accts and gsm lines were based on active users only. Those who operate them at least once daily. My grannies use their phones to call only when they want to hear from us, after which they'd off it. I've complained about this many times. It's not a good practice but they keep saying light isn't stable to charge them. We can't categorise them as active users in this case, likewise me, who registered it for them cos I've been keeping only one line since 2003. Same applies to those who own multiple bank accounts. I have 13 different bank accounts but not active on all of them. I'm only active on 3. So, not everyone is active on those lines and accts. NY the time you sum all these people together woth the 118m nin enrolees, we'd be over 200m
