Malaria is still one of Nigeria’s top killers—why?

In 2025, while we scroll, chill under fans, or complain about NEPA, someone nearby is gasping for breath from a mosquito bite. Most times, it’s a child.

This year’s theme, "Malaria Ends With Us – Reinvest. Reimagine. Reignite”
isn’t just a slogan. It’s a battle cry. And Nigeria is ground zero.

Let’s ask the hard questions:

Why does the country with brilliant doctors still have the highest malaria burden?

Why are mosquito nets used as window blinds and fishing gear?

Why are clinics still short on antimalarials?

Why do we still shrug off malaria as “normal”?

Here’s how we flip the script:

1. REINVEST

Not in billboards—but in people.

Fund clinics, not press conferences.

Stock drugs, train health workers, expand R & D.

Demand answers.

2. REIMAGINE

Think beyond bed nets.

Drone sprays in rural zones.

AI predicting outbreaks before they start.

Gen Z-led school campaigns in pidgin and local languages.

What’s your bold idea? Drop it below.

3. REIGNITE

Malaria won’t die until we treat it like the emergency it is.

Sleep under a net.

Educate one person this week.

Take action in your street, compound, church, or school.

Are you doing your part—or just tweeting?

It’s 2025. Malaria should be a memory—not a death sentence.

We have the tools.
We have the knowledge.
We have no excuse.

Let’s finish what we started.
If malaria ends, it ends with us.

Build covered drainage, dispose refuse properly, fumigate the environment regularly and watch malaria related death reduce.

As long as there are mosquitoes , malaria will still remain .
it can be reduced but not totally eliminated.

WHO should bring those laboratory invented mosquitoes to Nigeria that will eradicate the anopheles like it was done in one of the West African countries.

Malaria remains preventable and treatable-yet it still takes a life every minute. Bridging the gap between science and access is how we change that.

ICAMMDA commemorates 2025 World Malaria Day alongside mathematical scientists working tirelessly day and night to help end the scourge of malaria in Nigeria - a country where, according to WHO data, malaria remains the leading cause of death.

As long as Nigerians continue to litter the environment like pigs, Malaria will continue ravaging us in this country.

NO

This sounds to me like the mental gymnastics we do with global warming; essentially placing the burden on the people who contribute the least.

You know why malaria is still a problem in Nigeria? Government policies!
That's it.

It's not because people are not re-imagining or re-growing or whatever flowery language we are using today.

We are asking why people don't stay indoors or wear bulletproof vests instead of stopping the madman that is shooting indiscriminately.

These measures are good, yes, but they are good in the same way a plaster is good for a wound. Sure it is part of the process but you should maybe stitch the gushing wound before fighting about who put the plaster where.

Also...
Are we just all okay with this AI slop now?

AI has no business in making that image, as surely as it has no business in predicting malaria outbreaks.
It's just more bloody laziness. That's all it is.

What if computer do all work. What if human sit on chair all day.
I'm starting to envy plants and rocks more and more everyday
