Computer science is the deal but if you can't solve any real life problems you are your own. Even if you are not a computer scientist enroll yourself in professional courses if you want to Japa . I am doing well for myself with cyber security as a personnel and educator

After my degree, my plan is to go abroad and study cyber security in the uk in future... my question is, without a skill in information technology, what can I do with the information technology certificate in the uk?

The guy go wait tire na. Most Nigerians don't do research before going to UK to study big fancy programs. Some have finished the so called programs that usually start with, "Applied" this and "Appplied" that, without any hope of getting a job in their fields. It's even worse in Canada. There are some that have finished their masters and gone back to do one year PSW or any other support work programs in colleges to land a job.

I had actually wanted to blame you but I just realized we are in Nigeria where everyone thinks Medicine is the only course that guarantees the future. Bro, outside some medical courses and Engineering no other course comes close to Economics in terms of marketability and opportunities, or building wealth. Most of the wealthy men in the world who couldn't study economics during their university days usually go back to Business school to learn the basics of economics and the applied part. I won't be surprised if you're an accounting graduate anyways. Bc only them can under value economics when most of them actually crossed from economics to accounting bc they couldn't cope with the mathematics and calculations involved

Most low paying job in the uk requires no degree or skills, they also have low barriers in entry because they are repetitive or either demand your physical strength and power

All I will tell you is that the person doesn't like you. Someone I know that dropped computer science because he was talked out of it by a family member in US is bitterly regretting now.

Have the following mindset, learning IT is a life long event, even as an expert in something, you still keep learning because it's such a dynamic field and the evolution is rapid.
Don't focus on how many months it will take you, if you really want to go on the journey just start it and keep learning. IT can give you success but it's not a shortcut, there's hardwork, consistency, frustrations.

But to sort of give a response to what you asked. If you keep working really hard and stay consistent, after 9 to 12 months Will you be an expert, most likely not but you will be able to tell your employer, I can do this and that on your IT Infrastructure and it can save you this amount. And that's basically all you need to get a job

Here in the UK, there are many Nigerians who studied Economics at postgraduate level, had to gladly embrace care and warehouse jobs, to be employed.

Some valid points but here in the UK, your economics degree won't cut it. Accounting with up to date tech tools to analyse accounting information still stand a better chance.

Nothing beats health and engineering courses then finance
