In my younger days, I saw a fine combat camo trousers in a boutique. I wanted to buy it and the seller was eager to sell it marketing that I could wear it in places like Lekki, VI, Ikoyi and not be harassed. That is how my friend who I went with said,"as you dey buy am, also go ask the price of bedspace for hospital. Cos if army catch you, na then you go know the full meaning of OYO". That talk resetted my brain ![]() |

Half truth, your uniform is unique, your soldiers harrass what looks similar to it! And they beat and wound civilians for it! The real criminals who wear your uniforms don't parade themselves for you to harrass, they are shooting your men dead on sight |

Thing is, if you were to give the average man out there a choice between being 'brushed' and harassed there and then by force men or be arrested and taken to the police, most people will choose the harassment. |

RaptorX: Stolen valor is claiming an act of bravery that you didn't achieve, wearing military fatigue in Nigeria is like someone trying to claim a certain kind of regard in our society you didn't work for, some people go as far as impersonation and all... Tomatos, Tomatoes. |

BlackViper:Don't use the military uniform, according to him. Now the question is, are all camouflaged outfit Nigeria's military uniform? Even those who wear NIKE or Adidas Crested Camouflage will be humiliated. Does it mean the military officers cannot differentiate between their Uniform and others? Anyways court cases are not for the Military, so better avoid the 'uniform' |

It was IBB who gave the go-ahead for soldiers to brutalize civilians for wearing military attires. I wonder what his stance on the situation is today. I doubt it’ll change. He may be more liberal towards it. Honestly, Nigerians should steer clear from those hotheads. Don’t give them a reason to spoil your day. They are frustrated and look for who to pour their grievances on. This man is only recommending that they shouldn’t harm civilians. The reality on ground is way different. |

The only reason they keep on yapping about this camo thing is because of the nonsense they do with uniform if not why is camouflage banned for civilians Even in South Africa who have a better trained and equipped military you will not hear of such silly law |

In the western world, their army are well trained like you mentioned, but here in Nigeria, are the civilians not abusing the camouflage by using it to perpetrate evil? Just pray you don't fall victim of the fake ones. Burgerlomo: |

![]() Only a tiny minority of Nigerians engage in this wearing of military fatigues business. How many people do this? Very, very few. I have never worn military fatigues and I never will. I don't know any civilian (friend, family or acquaintance) who has ever worn military fatigues - or who intends to do so. The law says this attire shouldn't be worn by civilians - and that's all there is to it. The overwhelming majority of Nigerians are compliant with this law! This spokesman should stop creating a diversion. Civilians wearing military fatigues has never been the issue! The real problem is soldiers who hit other people's vehicles in traffic and then threaten the victim with violence - threats which they usually carry out...leading to them maiming or even killing the victim. The real problem is soldiers who see everyone else on a queue (it doesn't matter to them what the queue is for) and yet they insist on being served first. The real problem is 2nd or 3rd year cadets from NDA who have the audacity to block public roads (for no reason) and force civilian motorists to stand still for hours because it is Nigerian military 'tradition' to do so. The real problem is soldiers who have a minor disagreement with a civilian and the next thing is to beat, slap and kick the civilian like an animal before forcing him to roll in the gutter or the nearest pool of muddy water. The real problem is soldiers who habitually drive against traffic during rush hour, recklessly endangering the lives of other road users - only for the offenders to run into their barracks when the inevitable happens and some unfortunate civilian loses his life in an accident...all because soldiers have been told they can break any rule in Nigeria and get away with it. The real problem is soldiers who serially invade electricity distribution companies to beat, kick and maim employees - all because their military base was disconnected from the supply for unpaid debts. Why haven't soldiers been able to invade Sambisa the same way?The list is endless. The spokesman should address all these issues - not these irrelevant stories about military fatigues. But he won't focus on the real issues - because the institution he represents thinks it is above the law. ![]() Nonsense. |

kollyhaykon:The real problem started with some Nigerian soldiers because they started the intimidation, harassment, bullying and so on and so forth regardless if someone put on their uniforms or not and some bad people in our society took advantage of that which does not happen in the western world. |
| Re: Army Chief: Harrassment Of Civilians In Khaki Or Camouflage Is Wrong by kollyhaykon(m): 9:54am On Apr 29, 2025 |
Well, I understand the soldiers can be funny sometime when it comes to intimidating the civilians but I won't agree with you the soldiers start it first, because there isn't statistics to back that up. In all, most Nigerians are so lawless, so, allowing them to wear the camo is suicidal. I know my people. Burgerlomo: |
