Anytime a new technology comes out, people start to move into it rapidly and when people start seeing that the people who rushed into it are making money, a lot more people start moving into it.
The people who make the most money it this type of situation are the people who "sell shovels".
Let me explain, during the California gold rush of 1848 to 1855. A whole lot of people went into gold mining and with that many miners they also needed tools to mine with (ie pick axes, shovels, lanterns to mine in the dark etc).
Now the amount of people that were actually able to mine a substantial amount of gold were a small fraction of the total number of people that went into it, reasons ranging from having the best equipment to pure luck. But, the people who made an actual killing off the gold rush weren't the miners, it was the people selling these mining equipments that shoveled(pun intended) in all the gains.
What am I trying to say?
The point I am trying to pass across is that artificial intelligence is going to be like that in the sense that the people who go into AI first are the people who are going to make the most out of it, in a small amount of time there will be a demand for people who are AI professionals who will be paid massively because they are a very small amount of people, when this happens people on the side lines will start rushing to that field causing saturation, the people who will make the most out of that period will be the ones selling shovels, in this case organizing classes and offering certifications on Artificial intelligence.
So in essence, if AI sparkes your interest, go for it immediately. Some universities are now offering AI as a course, mostly at the masters level. There are a lot of opportunities for people in that field here in Nigeria and abroad, do what you want with this information.
